Those main events are a switch: the foreigners won every match until Sunday, and then have lost every match since Monday.

Which leads to today’s Gran Prix. The full eight members of team international are in town (Kenny King arrived last night.) The main event has that group (King, Kojima, Michael Elgin, Matt Taven, Juice Robinson, Marco Corleone, Sam Adonis, Johnny Idol) face Team Mexico (Ultimo Guerrero, Volador, Rush, Diamante Azul, Mephisto, Euforia, Dragon Lee and Valiente.) Team Mexico won last year, with Volador beating Tama Tonga for the win. The two preview ciberneticos have been had Volador & Elgin split wins. Team Mexico still seem the solid favorite, but Volador winning two straight years in a row seems unlikely – Ultimo Guerrero getting the win would seems most likely for his team. The match will be long, and probably pretty good if it’s anything like last year’s match.

This show will be an iPPV, the first ever CMLL’s down with internet.tv. You can buy just this show for $10 USD or get both it and the Anniversary show for $20 USD. I wrote about this show in depth over on Voices of Wrestling,  but the shorter version is this whole show probably will have good matches but doesn’t have any special matches outside of the main event. There’s no reason to buy the $10 show unless you’re going to attend the Anniversario show and won’t need an iPPV for that – if you’re excited enough for tonight’s CMLL matches, just buy the $20 package and save yourself $5.

Again, this is the first time CMLL’s worked with internet.tv. It should work, CMLL streams four times a week and all they have to do is handoff the video. But it’s always it should work, and I can’t even tell you exactly how to get to the video at this point. They’ve been good at giving refunds in the past at least.

Astral won a (non-CMLL) bodybuilding contest to be Mr. Mexico in his division. They’re kind of sparse on details.

Impact/GFW has a video recap of their wrestlers on TripleMania that’s going up later today. It has the best shot of the Aerostar dive, and there’s footage of the Moose/Lashley turn that didn’t much make the broadcast. They’re going to be doing these sort of videos for the The Crash show on Saturday in Tijuana and then Monday for AAA’s show in Irapuato. The Crash has has the four way GFW Tag Title match (GFW teams LAX & OVA, plus Hijo del Pirata Morgan & Ultimo Maldito vs Arkangel Divino & Black Boy). AAA hasn’t announced any one from GFW in Irapuato, but EC3 & James Storm – feuding with Fantasma, Texano and Pagano on GFW TV – are supposed to be there. Also supposed to be there is Eli Drake, with the idea he’ll defend his title against someone in AAA.

Sexy Star is not working the 09/09 WUW show in New York, which is no surprise at this point – the surprise will be if someone outside of Mexico before she serves a time out. It didn’t really sense for Sexy to be there even before Saturday, since they also had Taya & Mundo booked and that’s a no go. The surprise is Sexy Star’s replacement is Keyra, which appears to be her US debut. The WUW shows are in that “draw good, get no attention” quadrant of wrestling fandom, but I hope it helps Keyra escape from being Mexico’s best kept secret.

+LuchaTV has a video interview with Dr. Wagner from last night’s Arena Aficion.

Hijo del Santo’s column today is a letter to Dr. Wagner about his mask loss. Santo somehow spends the first part of this complaining about people selling unmasked photos (of him.) Santo is sad Wagner lost to Psycho Clown and not someone better, he thinks the beard is weird, he thinks Wagner should be a tecnico now, and he thinks Wagner shouldn’t remask.

LuchaWorld has the latest Lucha Report.

This week’s Zona Ruda discusses TripleMania. They seem to very briefly mention the Reina de Reinas fiish, but keep on going.
