What Happened in the main event:
Tirantes refused to count the first fall pin because Bucanero didn’t have his shoulders down enough. Angel de Oro adjusted it slightly, and yelled at Tirantes after the fall, which is played as Tirantes being a rudo. Tirantes is spectacularly late starting a count later for no obvious reason, which causes a similar reaction. For the second straight day, Tirantes screws up a “rudo grabs hand to stop the count” spot. Angel de Oro spends most of the match limping after Bucanero drives one of his knees into the match, but Bucanero himself seems to be having a left shoulder issue after doing a dive off the ramp. He tries to catch Angel de Oro’s moonsault one armed as a results and it doesn’t go too great. They do a few more stops in the ring before finishing up, so it doesn’t seem to have derailed things.
Review:
I took my own advice and skipped everything but the main event. The fourth match looked god, fun in the usual crowd pleasing way of an active Tuesday match, but nothing to separate from the ones that are done weekly.
The bit that actually stood out the most in the title match was Angel de Oro selling a body part, an exotic event in CMLL. He kept at it for a long portion of the match and even sort of tampered down selling it, adjusting the knee pad a bit, as if to note it was feeling a little better to start running again. That was something interesting we got of Angle de Oro and it didn’t seem like there’d be anything interesting out of him; he was still doing largely the same moves, some looking better (moonsault) than others (embarrassing kick to set up the stunner, which I’m convinced Angel de Oro has never watched on video because it always looks bad), but at least it gave a different feel. Bucanero is willing to throw himself around, to his own detriment in the end here, but can’t move at a great pace. Slowing down Angel de Oro helped compensate for that, but this was just a good match and not the crazy miracle of the match with Hechicero.
Tirantes was terrible in this match, the second straight day of him being terrible. CMLL knows he’s bad, they know enough about all their referees to make sure Edgar is the one in charge of the truly important matches, but they don’t care enough to get some better people in here or get people to pay attention. Tirantes was messing up counts in this match, and wasn’t paying attention in others, and it happens regularly.
