CMLL Martes de Nuevo Valores: 2017-06-06

don’t give Panther your arm

Recapped: 06/10/2017

Matches:

Artillero & Espanto Jr. beat Bengala & Sangre Imperial (11:56 [4:46, 2:50, 4:20], 2/3, via VideosOficialesCMLL, below average)

Acero, Aéreo, Eléctrico beat Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia (14:28 [7:16, 2:29, 4:43], 1/3, via VideosOficialesCMLL, ok)

Fuego, Johnny Idol, Stigma beat Misterioso Jr., Sagrado, Virus (17:07 [8:13, 3:37, 5:17], 2/3, via VideosOficialesCMLL, ok)

Titán beat Ephesto in a lightning match (6:52, via VideosOficialesCMLL, ok)

Blue Panther, Blue Panther Jr., The Panther beat Cuatrero, Máscara Año 2000, Sansón (15:38 [5:04, 2:18, 8:16], 2/3, via VideosOficialesCMLL, good)

Cavernario, Negro Casas, Shocker beat Stuka Jr., Valiente, Volador Jr. (9:03 [3:50, 1:51, 3:22], 1/3, via VideosOficialesCMLL, ok)

What happened:

Electrico & Pequeno Nitro

Barbaro Cavernario decided he must destroy Volador for reasons which were only obvious to the caveman. He attacked Volador from the moment he got the win and defeated him cleanly for the win.

Thoughts:

Slightly interesting show.

Cavernario angry!

Cavernario & Volador have really good chemistry, and Cavernario was moving around super fast in the ending sequence. That match is going to be great. Not sure I’ve seen Stuka do the headscissors escape to his feet before. Shocker doesn’t look good, it’s going to be a long time until he’s there if he’s going to ever be there, and it’s going to be tough to have a good match with him involved. He’d be better off being the commentator instead of Hechicero.

The Dinamitas/Panthers match wasn’t quite as good as some of the other matches, with the NGD holding back a bit, but The Panther made up for it by looking super the whole way. He came off as one of the best dozen guys in CMLL, with the first fall finish specifically needing to be brought back in a bigger spot. Blue Panther Sr. also did a lot of his crazy old man stuff (attacking the cameraman!) which really worked for the crowd.

Sangre Imperial

The Titan/Ephesto lightning match wasn’t much. A lot of Titan throwing himself around to create action when Ephesto wasn’t doing much. The tercera was entertaining for Stigma trying to do mat wrestling with Virus to start and getting nothing. Fuego woke the crowd up, who hadn’t been into it much before.

The minis match had the rare bit of a team losing one person via elimination and coming back to win. It was used in the first fall where it didn’t really make an impact, but you could they were trying to do something there. It didn’t quite work, but it did give us better pace and some dives.

And Sangre Imperial looked terrible on a missed springboard in the first match and not much better rest of the way. It’s hard to understand why he’s there except being Sangre Chicana’s son, because he hasn’t impressed at all.

Atlantis & Hechicero worked a lot against each last week but I didn’t get the idea they were feuding. They were definitely feuding this week and will have a match next week.

Today’s CMLL show is a setup for next week. Barbaro Cavernario & Volador meet in the main event, and appear to be setting up a singles match next week. This week, they’ll be joined by Felino, Mr. Niebla, Stuka and Valiente. Cavernario beat Volador cleanly last week

The semimain has Blue Panther, Rey Cometa, Titan versus Hechicero, Morphosis and Rey Bucanero, with CMLL presented the idea that Hechicero & Bucanero may still have issues following Hechicero beating Bucanero for his title. Fuego faces Misterioso in the lightning match. Zeuxis & Princesa Sugehit meet once again in a women’s match, wtih Estrellita, Marcela, Amapola and Dalys. The skippable opening matches are Sangre Azteca, Arkangel and Metalico against Principe Diamante, Oro Jr. and Star Jr., and Aereo & Acero versus Pequeno Nitro & Pequeno Violencia. The show will air on CMLL’s YouTube at 7:30pm.

Guadalajara has Caristico, Marco Corleone, Mistico versus Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Ultimo Guerrero. The Hijos del Infernales take on Angel de Oro, Guerrero Maya Jr. & Niebla Roja, which might set up a quick trios title match.

Arena Coliseo Guadalajara mentions referee Mario el Rudo passed away. He appears to be father of current referee Audaz.

Ocio magazine has a story on Arena Coliseo Guadalajara’s anniversary. Satanico’s interviewed and says he’s currently training 30 students there.

Slam Wrestling has an (English) interview with Pentagon where he praises Vampiro and Lucha Underground.

The Crash says they’re returning to Mexicali (Arena Nacionalista) soon. Mexicali is relatively close to Tijuana, so it’ll probably be the day before or after a Tijuana show.

El Sol de Tampico has a bio/interview with Hahastary, one of the women who advanced in the AAA La Llave de la Gloria competition. She says she was training for wrestling since 11.

Powerbomb TV’s tournament will have eight people, including one Jonathan Gresham and begins in August. They talked about running in four promotions, so maybe first round match ups scattered around the world and the final four come together for a tournament somewhere?

+LuchaTV posted the complete Lucha Memes/MDA show from Arena Puebla.

LuchaWorld has this week’s Poster-Mania.

Segunda Caida reviewed Black Terry & Diablo Jr. vs Chicano & Veneno.

The new Odessa Steps magazine is out with a lot of lucha content.

3rd defense

Puebla not only holding the blowoff match to one feud, but also apparently setting up a second feud at the same time in the semimain. This is almost like someone is working on these things. Must be an accident.

Fourth match could be good too. Week five in a row for Ares & Espiritu Maligno, who are still not feuding.

Guadalajara’s super indie returns next month for the first time since February. Silver King has been back to wrestling as his Nacho Libre Ramses persona a lot lately and I don’t know why – maybe the movie was on TV recently?

new lucha videos for the weekend of June 10th, 2017

Long story short: I’m not sure I’m going to be able to keep doing download links every Tuesday for these videos. YouTube uploads aren’t changing – at least not because of this – but I’m going to be moving off Amazon to Something Else soon and I don’t know that Something Else is going to let me share files as easily. I’ll let you know when I know, just know these links in this post are all going to become invalid in a few weeks and there may not be new links.

this show

Recapped: 06/08/2017

Matches:

Ángel de Oro, Mistico, Niebla Roja beat Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero (10:00 [2:55, 2:05, 5:00], 2/3 DQ, via VideosOficialesCMLL, ok)

What happened:

Gran Guerrero got 125% of this

Not much. Ultimo Guerrero fouled Niebla Roja but this show wasn’t even worth bothering to do the “change your mask or else!” challenge. There was nothing to talk about from the other matches.

My only note is “JCR compared Tigre Rojo Jr. to Satoru Sayama”, which I suppose is very accurate in that they both have done Tiger characters and not really actually in any other way (though Tigre Rojo Jr. is fine.)

Thoughts:

Astral

The matches weren’t much either, though they weren’t bad. I didn’t really pick up on the shorter match times while watching the show, but it felt like it helped a little bet. I’ve been mentioning short matches should mean better paces and it definitely felt that way in the opener, one of the better ones they had in some time. (Astro helps. Astro is very fast.)

On the other hand, the 17 minute match wasn’t far off good either, with Olimpico (seems like a Zavala replacement) adding more than usual and some fun from Virus being really aggressive. The semimain match was disappointing, because Hechicero working a lot with Atlantis seemed fun for him but didn’t leave great matchups for the rest of the match. The main event was fine, but not at the level of their better matches, not close to the Friday match with the same submission.

6) Negro Navarro b Heddi Karaoui

7) Black Warrior, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Imposible, Trauma I, Trauma II

Dinamic Black was wearing his IWL belt. IWL hasn’t promoted a show in 2013.This Climax looks like a different guy than the Climax Jr. who was more visible a few years ago (and it looks like they teamed together on an indie show, so there you go..)

Today’s Arena Puebla is just five trios matches with no storylines. They could come up with something and create a program quick, since it looks like next week is the week with all the singles matches elsewhere. Last week’s angle was UG fouling Niebla Roja, and neither are around this week. Instead, the main event is Caristico, Dragon Lee & Mistico against the Peste Negra trio of Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas and Cavernario. That has a good a chance of being good as anything; there’s nothing sure fire strong on the show and show without a strong looking matches are easy to skip with the amount of wrestling out there.

Atlantis, Johnny Idol and Marco Corleone take on Hechicero, Ripper and Mascara 2000 in the semifinal. Sagrado continues as the fill in Revolucionario teaming with Dragon Rojo & Polvora against Drone, Esfinge and Tigre Rojo Jr. The opening two matches are mostly locals. Arkalis, Espiritu Maligno and Rey Samuray versus Ares, Disturbio, Hijo del Signo is the segunda. Ares and Espiritu keep being put in the same match week after week, where it looks Ares might have returned just to lose his hair, but they’re not actually interacting in any special way during the matches. Flyer returns to the openers, teaming with Meyer & Paris against Joker, King Jaguar and Policeman. The show will air on CMLL’s YouTube at 9pm.

Titan, Dragon Lee and Volador will team with Jushin Liger against Hiromu Takahashi, Bushi, Evil and Sanada on the first of the two NJPW US shows on 07/01. Their match for day 2 hasn’t been announced as of yet.

CMLL has a note up about the Gran Prix. It’s nothing more than was mentioned on Informa: 09/01 date, NJPW & ROH involved.

Astral and a fan had an incident on the Saturday Coliseo show, though people got in between before anything more than a beer was thrown. You can see it develop at 8:50 in this video. It looked like the fans said something to Astral, Astral walked over to say something else and flipped the drink or food container they were holding, and the fan went after him a moment later. The fans got tossed, but Astral probably also needs a timeout.

AAA will air on FrontRunnerTV (UK) at 9pm on Wednesday. They moved it up a half hour.

IWRG has Festival de las Mascaras, on 07/02 Arena Naucalpan
1: Dragon Fly, Dinamick Black, Black Dragon vs Hip Hop Man, Pibe Alfajor, Mosca
2: Panterita & Orito vs Eterno & Demonio Infernal
3: Mr. Electro, Internacional Pantera, Trauma I vs Grond XXX, Guerrero Maya, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr.

what a rare treat it will be to see Pantera masked

4) Blue Panther, Johnny Idol, Rey Cometa vs Hechicero, Terrible, Vangellys
5) Marco Corleone, Niebla Roja, Valiente vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto

The new champs teaming up with Valiente against the Hijos del Infierno. (So much for Volador’s challenge.) Some odd pairings on the rudo side in the undercard, with Cancerbero getting on out his usual pool of guys and the odd ball trio of Canelo, Nitro and Templario.

CMLL (SUN) 06/18/2017 Arena México
1) Astral & Sensei vs Akuma & Espanto Jr.
2) La Jarochita, La Vaquerita, Princesa Sugehit vs Dalys, Metálica, Zeuxis

The first 300 men will get to take a photo with the edecanes. The mascots are also back for father’s day. Pierroth does not fit in his match at all.

Diamante Azul was listed on these shows, and then removed this afternoon. Guess he’s not back.

This is not an interesting lineup but Maximo quickly losing all his vowels is entertaining. Mascara’s name may be meant to be “Mascara El Dios Ingobernable”, it’s unclear.

AAA on Televisa: 2017-06-03

Hijo del Vikingo

Recapped: 06/08/2017

Matches:

Concord & Hijo Del Vikingo beat Bronco González Jr. & Guerrero de Plata
(9:11, Hijo del Vikingo 450 splash Guerrero de Plata, good)

Lanzeloth & Máscara de Bronce beat Dalton Bragg & Joe Lider (5:44, double standing moonsault on Bragg, ok)

Aerostar, Australian Suicide, Bengala, Drago defeat Dark Cuervo, Dark Scoria, El Mesías, Pagano (9:52, Drago’s Tail on Cuervo, ok)

What Happened:

Aerostar

The big event didn’t happen in a match, but in an in-ring interview with Leo Riano and Fantasma. It was preceded by a flashback of Texano bringing Fantasma into AAA, and then the more recent bit of Fantasma giving Texano that piledriver. Fantasma insisted to Riano that he and Texano were brothers who’d team up to go after Kross & Mundo. Texano came to the ring, and Fantasma apologized to him and offered a handshake. Texano turned his back on Fantasma. Fantasma pulled Texano back and wanted Texano to accept his apology. Texano took the microphone, both to say he won’t accept it and to hit Fantasma. Security had already gotten in the ring with Texano so that was the end of it, but Fantasma flipped out when he got back stage.

Suicide continued his tantrum from Tijuana, acting rudely towards Drago & Aerostar before the match, then attacking both enemies and teammates after the match, which turned into a brawl between all four teams. The bit ended with Pagano & Mesias having their usual staredown.

Concord

Joe Lider & Dalton Bragg were apparently forced to team by Vampiro, but Vampiro didn’t force them to get along. Bragg refused to work with Lider, and Lider ended up walking out on him in a non-competitive match.

There was no mention of the Verano de Escandalo lineup outside of the commercial promising one person would lose their mask on the show (the next day.) None of the matches specifically built to that show.

Thoughts:

Mascara de Bronce & Lanzeloth

I could not imagine a less useful show to build up a major show. AAA must’ve had complete confidence in the Ciudad Juarez promoters to be able to sell their show completely on local promotion and goodwill from previous shows, because they gave them no help. They went out of their way to give them no help; AAA could’ve switched the episode order around and aired the match with the Verano match this week, but decided to save it until after the show it was meant to build up. It doesn’t make much sense to me.

The Llaves de la Gloria matches are a bright spot on a not exactly sparking promotion at the moment. They’ve been kept out of the massive storylines and they’re featuring Hijo del Vikingo, who looks great. He actually looks like a guy who’s been doing his incredible agile style for years, with supreme balance and no sign of stage fright. Concord did some cool things, his tornillo was nice, but he’s not as much in control as Vikingo. The rudos aren’t near as spectacular but they’re doing better going with the showcased guys than others might be in their spot, and they’re willing to take big bumps.

The Bragg/Lider vs Lanzeloth/Bronce tag match looked bad on paper and was worse in reality. The Bragg/Lider aren’t good opponents for flyers and had to spend most of their not working together to get over the 9th most important storyline in AAA. Even if either guy was good, I’ve got a hard time believing that it’s going anywhere, and Bragg again didn’t look any good. Mascara de Bronce got to do an awesome tornillo in his hometown but the rest of the match was a drag.

The work in the atomicos match was better than usual, but the rudos really slowed down with the rudos in charge. This also had another classic moment of Pagano trying to prove he’s a flyer by doing flying moves badly. Doing another match where the partners can’t get along and ending it with more partners who can’t get along is just overkill.
