This was a good show to skip, though the random Vangellys angle was amusing. I wonder if Vangellys is still supposed to be a member of TGR now, or if he was out anyway with Shocker finally returning.

The Crash (FRI) 06/02/2017 Auditorio de Tijuana, Tijuana, Baja California [126f, Lo Mejor de Lucha, The Crash]
1) Arkángel Divino © b Látigo [The Crash JUNIOR]
First defense.
2) Oráculo b Black Danger, Jonathan, Black Boy, Último Maldito
Oráculo beat Black Danger to continue their feud. Mask match challenges
3) Rey Horus b Flamita © [The Crash CRUISER]
Horus defeated Flamita to end his title reign. Flamita falls on fourth defense. Horuz won the title shot on the last The Crash show and is the 6th Champion (Fenix, Angel Metalico, Pentagon Jr., Bestia, Flamita?)
4) Jack Evans & Zorro b Bestia 666 & Hijo de Pirata Morgan
Jack & Bestia made hair/extreme match challenges.
5) Penta Zero M & The King b Black Terry & Skayde
Maximo & La Mascara attacked Penta & The King after the match, taking their masks. A match was set up between the two teams for The Crash show in late June.
6) Daga, Garza Jr., Rey Mysterio 619 b Damián 666, Mr. Águila, Nicho el Millionario
This show was a benefit show to raise money for Nicho’s operation, which will leave him out 8 months to a year. Maximo & La Mascara ran in after this match as well with a third masked man, working with FdT and against the Rebelion. The masked man and the FdT attacked the Alvarados, and the masked man revealed himself to be X-Fly. Cage match challenges followed, and the Alvarados said they’d be back with more people.

LA Park, Rush & Pierroth sent in autographed shirts as part of the merchandise they were selling to help out Nicho. I haven’t seen much of the show, but it sounds like Flamita/Horus was really good. 126f being there means there should at least be clips on their channel and hopefully more.

It certainly comes off as if The Crash is setting up a big show soon- maybe the June 23rd show? Hopefully they’re not doing in the usual lucha way of doing all the big matches on one show causing them all to mean much. I don’t know that, say, Oraculo/Black Danger is going to be a big deal on it’s own, but it’s also not going to help either guy become more valuable if it’s the second match on a six match card. Or, I guess this could all be a terrible lucha libre cage match.

La Mascara & Maximo are using those names. The Crash has gone with whatever name Pentagon & Fenix are calling themselves that day, so I would suspect CMLL has not threatened those guys over the usage yet.

Rayo de Jalisco Jr. won the main event on the RCH show, exchanging fouls with Cibernetico. Attendance didn’t seem as strong as other indie shows there. The undercard set up a Freelance/Eterno/Demus? vs Indystructibles/Indy Nation feud.

Coliseo tonight has Niebla Roja, Atlantis and Marco Corleone versus Ephesto, Mephisto and Rey Bucanero. AULL has one of their 50th Anniversary shows with Dr. Wagner vs Blue Demon. Arena Neza has Caristico & Negro Casas vs Ultimo Guerrero & Mr. Niebla. DTU continues in San Luis Potosi. AAA has a show in Cuautitlan, including a three way tag title match where none of the people involved are currently the tag champions. There’s a usual indy show in Gimnasio Hercules.

Sunday is a rare day with three CMLL arenas in use at the same time. Two of them are indie shows. There’s the Lucha Memes show in Arena Puebla, and the Leyendas Inmortales show in Guadalajara. The CMLL show in Arena Mexico has the Hijos del Infierno versus Dinastia Casas trios title match, where a title change is not expected. La Mascara, in his post-CMLL life, is wrestling in LA for UIPW.  IWRG has an Imposible/Super Mega title match, a battle of Naucalpan standouts from different generations who haven’t worked much elsewhere. Dick Togo wrestles in Coacalco. AAA has some sort of Verano de Escandalo in Juarez.

AAA will air the first half of the Arena Aficion show today. They released a vignette with Australian Suicide being weird.

Lucha Underground also put out a Kobra Moon promo. The Reptile Tribe is challenging for the trios titles this week or relatively soon.

There will be a lucha libre expo in Pachuca on June 17 & 18. Villano III & Brazo de Plata will be honored.

Monclova luchador Francisco “el Diablo” Lopez passed away. They held a wake for him at Arena Coliseo Monclova before taking him to the cemetery.

LuchaWorld has the latest news update.

Fuego en el Ring has their lastest podcast.

Reina Isis is headed back to Japan for Reina on 06/18.

7) ? & ?? vs ??? & ???? [Gran Alternativa, 8f]
8) ? & ?? vs ??? & ???? [Gran Alternativa, 8f]

10) ? & ?? vs ??? & ???? [Gran Alternativa, quarterfinal]
11) ? & ?? vs ??? & ???? [Gran Alternativa, quarterfinal]
12) ? & ?? vs ??? & ???? [Gran Alternativa, semifinal]

Caristico & Soberano would normally be the favorite, only it’d be weird to have two straight rookie finals with the same people in it and Caristico can’t win the big one now. Drone & Niebla Roja would continue the UG/Roja feud, and Angel de Oro & Oro Jr. could work that same way. Volador & Flyer seem to have an outside shot too.

First two matches might not be good, three and four look better, and they’re going to be rushed again on time.

What happened:

I guess at least he didn’t give up

Sansón & Último Guerrero won Block A of this year’s Gran Alternativa. The tournament played out exactly as expected after the seeding was revealed and pretty much as could’ve been expected just back when the block was announced.

In the rudo versus rudo semimain, Vangellys inexplicably attacked his partner Negro Casas, setting him up for a Pierroth win. Vangellys had actually not participated in the match pretty much at all to that point, though it wasn’t focused on. After the match (and after a badly scheduled commercial break), Vangellys explained he did it to prove he should be the new Los Ingobernable member. Pierroth turned down Vangellys’ application, Vangellys attacked Pierroth, and both Rush & Pierroth destroyed Vangellys.

Thoughts:

this was a show where Stigma was a highlight

Are you reading this recap because you didn’t actually watch the show? This is a smart move. This was not a show to actually watch. Nothing was horrendous and there was one really out of left field angle, but there’s better uses of two hours.

Everything up there is OK, but it’s a lot of passive OKs, where the matches meant so little that it wasn’t worth the time to decide if they were actually worse. There were good moments in the Gran Alternativa, with the Mistico & Star Jr. team being the best of the bunch, but nothing that really felt like a good match. Sansón & Último Guerrero should set up a good final with whoever they face, but I’d prefer to skip ahead to it than another week of this.

The undercard matches weren’t much better. The first two matches had some of the usual spots from the guys but no real spark of life. Rey Cometa seemed to get in all but about two moves of the lightning match, but the problem was one of those moves was the match ending top rope double stomp. The other problem was it was a typically ugly Dragon Rojo top rope double stomp, where he can’t land it standing up and falls down on impact. The bit with Vangellys was completely random and could be the starting point to an entertaining angle, but you have to wait for CMLL to follow thru on something before believing it’s going anywhere.
