Diamante Azul replaced Volador Jr. Team Casas took falls 2/3, the second by excessive violence DQ. The winners wanted to do the same match next week for no really good reason and were left beaten and unmasked.

UG took falls 2/3. 12th defense

Strong turnout out on the show. The main event was a good version of the usual Caristico/UG match. The semimain didn’t seem to be as much. The big news from the show might have been the announcement that the micros would be appearing on next week’s show. Ernesto Ocampo writes about the history of small luchadors in Mexico.

CMLL’s big match tonight is Dragon Lee versus Niebla Roja in a non-title match. Niebla Roja’s one of the harder to figure out CMLL luchadors in terms of skill. There are poitns where he seems to fade way into the background, but he also has moments where he and Dragon Lee have great exchanges. Niebla Roja’s seems to have the ability to have fun singles matches, but he hasn’t had a great one that’s made it to us. His matches with Titan and Dragon Rojo are the closest he’s come. He hasn’t gotten as many opportunities to have them, but part of that’s because Roja’s spent time away from CMLL in the US for stretches of the last couple years. This is the third time he and Dragon Lee will have this singles match in the last two two months: their lightning match was good and their Coliseo match was never seen. Everyone has really good matches with Dragon Lee and this Niebla Roja’s chance to have his best single’s match ever.

It may be a big few hours for Dragon Lee. NJPW’s expected to announce the Best of the Super Juniors lineup at their show tomorrow (late night Tuesday/early Wednesday in this hemisphere), and Dragon Lee’s been featured on all of the promotion. Dragon Lee was announced as appearing on Informa, but so was his opponent here, as well as Sanson, Soberano and Ultimo Guerrero, so that part may just be a coincidence. I do not expect a second CMLL luchador to appear in the tournament.

The actual main event tonight is Atlantis, Rey Cometa, Valiente against Cavernario, Felino and Mr. Niebla. Cometa main events are rare enough that it’s possible they may be setting up another round of Cavernario/Cometa. The Panthers take on Terrible, Bucanero and Vangellys in the fourth. Drone, Fuego, and Star Jr. take on Forastero, Virus and Canelo Casas in the tercera; I too am confused why Canelo Casas is that high up in the card. The minis, Stukita, Shockercito and Electrico face Mercurio, Pequeno Nitro & Pequeno Violencia in the second match. Bengala & Sangre Imperial take on Espanto Jr. & Grako; Grako & Sangre Imperial appear paired up.

Guadalajara has the micros, and the Guerreros versus Caristico, Mistico and Maximo. Having Monday Puebla and Tuesday Guadalajara must be rough, Puebla gets back late and Guadalajara seems to leave fairly early

El Alteno defeated Mr. Apolo for his hair in a cage match on the bonus Friday show in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara last week. No results, but Satanico wrestled.

In a post match interview from Friday, Hechicero talked about the ZSJ match he missed out on. He mentions there, and I think it’s been mentioned elsewhere, that the match was actually scheduled to happen early but it turned out they couldn’t get Sabre in for those dates. Sabre’s a busy guy and so a tough man to book, but Hechicero still builds it up as happening at some point.

SanDiegoRed and ZetaTJ take a look around the new lucha libre (and collector’s) museum in Tijuana. The Gladiatores has a recap of the lucha show they held for the opening.

Lucha Underground’s first episode on Tele5 drew either 110K or 100K viewers. The second episode had 80k. I have no context to know if that’s good or bad.

On Facebook, Vampiro says he’s been trying to get in shape for his match in WXW on the 13th, but it’s not working so maybe keep expectations in check. He’s hoping they bring him back a few times a year.

Rey Mysterio and a lot of the usual Crash names are advertised for Ciduad Madero on 06/09.

DTU is going to Tijuana on 06/09.

Milenio has an obit for Brazo de Oro.

Wrestling With Words writes about ZSJ vs Negro Navarro as being one of the most important matches of the year.

Lineups

CMLL (SAT) 05/06/2017 Arena Coliseo
1) Acero & Aéreo vs Pequeño Nitro & Pequeño Olímpico
2) Magia Blanca, Magnus, Sangre Imperial vs Artillero, Hijo del Signo, Metálico
3) El Gallito & Microman vs Mije & Perico Zakarías
4) La Jarochita, La Vaquerita, Sanely vs La Metálica, La Seductora, Reyna Isis
5) Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther, Drone vs Felino, Rey Bucanero, Vangellys
6) Carístico, Mistico, Stuka Jr. vs Kráneo, Ripper, Último Guerrero

Micro match comes to Coliseo. This is one of two shows CMLL is running this day, with the sponsored show taking place in Arena Mexico around the same time. That might explain why this card looks a bit slight, even for Saturday.

CMLL (SUN) 05/07/2017 Arena México
1) Bengala & Magia Blanca vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Eléctrico, Fantasy, Último Dragóncito vs Mercurio, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia
3) Drone, Esfinge, Stigma vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
4) Blue Panther, Máximo Sexy, Stuka Jr. vs Cavernario, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
5) Carístico, Marco Corleone, Mistico vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, La Máscara

Back to not airing, and that’s probably fine. Gran Guerrero & Euforia being in the main event instead of the rudos in the semimain might mean they’re setting up something, or it might just be random.

CMLL (SUN) 05/07/2017 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Avispón Negro Jr. & Micro vs Guerrero de la Muerte & Quca
2) Javier Cruz Jr. & Johnny Dinamo vs Destello & Destructor
3) Black Sugar & Tigre Blanco vs Gran Kenut & Linterna
4) Cosmos, El Divino, Mágico vs Difunto, Mr. Apolo, Relámpago Azul
5) Explosivo, Flash II, Star Black vs Maléfico, Nautilius, Pitbull I

I guess we’ll find out in a couple days that Nautilius turned rudo. Flash II & Pitbull I repeat from last week in the main event, sot hat’s probably the feud.

CMLL (MON) 05/08/2017 Arena Puebla
1) Meyer, Vega, Zaeta Roja vs El Perverso, Fuerza Chicana, Rey Apocalipsis
2) Lestat, Oro Jr., Star Jr. vs Canelo Casas, Nitro, Toro Bill Jr.
3) El Gallito & Microman vs El Perico Zakarías & Mije
4) Ángel de Oro, Johnny Idol, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero
5) Máximo Sexy, Mistico, Negro Casas vs Diamante Azul, Ephesto, Mephisto [Relevos Increíbles]

They weren’t definite on which match they’re ultimately setting up in the main event. Negro Casas versus Mephisto seems the most likely, but they could’ve just been making something up with no Volador. Micros hit all four arenas in about eight days. They’ve usually run six matches even with them, so maybe something gets added.

One thought to “Ultimo Guerrero keeps title over Carsitico, Niebla Roja versus Dragon Lee tonight”

  1. Hmmm… What is CMLL doing with Batallion? They booked one and not the other a few times each and now they’re both booked, but in different matches. Honestly, based on their recent performances they are probably in the right matches, but poor Toro Bill Jr. I hope Adelita kicks Canelo’s ass and takes his place.
