Cometa & Cavernario

Recapped: 03/09/2017

What happened: Cavernario defeated Cometa in the main event to set up a title match between them next week.

What was good: I liked the third and fourth matches, and the main event was an effective set up for next week.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube channel.

Winner: tencicos (2/3)
Match Time: 11:16

Review: [ok] usual OK opening match, with decent action and not any near falls. The técnicos outshined the rudos by a fair bit, even if Stukita seemed off enough not to manage to do his dance move correctly. Pequeño Violencia didn’t seem as much an anchor but this wasn’t a match I could care all that much about.

Match 2: Flyer, Príncipe Diamante, Robin vs Cancerbero, Metálico, Raziel

    • Cancerbero suplex silla Flyer (5:11)

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 16:23

Review: [ok] Probably should’ve skipped this. It didn’t turn out as boring as I thought but wasn’t close to being worthwhile Raziel seemed to be working with Principe Diamante on his mat work, but the second half of the fall felt like the veteran rudos stretching things out much longer in a less cooperative fashion. Diamante’s offense has a lot of movement, doesn’t accomplish much, then brained Metálico on his finish. The rudos coming back after Diamante got one pinfall was very strange.

Match 3: Blue Panther Jr., Star Jr., The Panther vs Canelo Casas, Puma, Skándalo

    • Tiger backcracker, Puma middle rope double stomp The Panther (7:19)

Winner: rudos (2/3)
Match Time: 12:28

Review: [good] the usual high action Panthers/Casas match, helped a bit by Star Jr. and surviving being dragged down by Canelo. Casas wasn’t bad the entire match, his mat work with Panther early on was fine, but he had a really bad minute to end it. There’s a bit of routine to the Panters/Casas matches because they’ve had so many of them, but they do seem to add and remove some spots. Plus, even if they’re similar, they’re usually similarly exciting in parts of shows which are otherwise boring.

Match 4: Pegasso vs Virus in a lightning match

Winner: Virus (nudo Virus)
Match Time: 5:01

Review: [ok] finish came out of nowhere here, as if Virus was committed to working five minutes tonight but could’ve ended it at any time. It was not a fraudulent like match, but there wasn’t a lot to it and the ending was as one sided as you’re going to get. Just keep on going past this one.

Match 5: Blue Panther, Titán, Tritón vs Bobby Villa, Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora

  1. Revoulcionarios
    • Dragon Rojo low blow dropkick Blue Panther (3:27)
  2. técnicos
    • Titanics on Pólvora (2:38)
    • Blue Panther anklelock Dragon Rojo (2:42)
  3. Revoulcionarios
    • Dragon Rojo aniablina Triton (5:25)
    • Super Pólvora Driver Titan (6:31)

Winner: Revolucionarios (1/3)
Match Time: 12:40

Review: [good] just across the line; there wasn’t a lot here, but it was done entertaining enough that I didn’t feel my time was being wasted. They’ve all had lots better matches and this may be a bit of a Tuesday curve. It’s probably not great for Titan to be taking a Super Pólvora Driver every day but at least he didn’t need the stretcher today. It’s nice to see Titan & Triton back together but they were just two singles wrestlers who happened to be in the same match, with Titan doing much more with Panther than he did with Titan, and their days of their team seemed a long time ago.

so broken!
game physics are so broken
I’m going to miss Triton when he’s no longer on CMLL streams and, uh, wrestling 45 minutes from my house on shows I won’t bother to go to

Match 6: Atlantis, Dragón Lee, Rey Cometa vs Cavernario, Felino, Negro Casas
Arena México, 03/07/2017

VideosOficialesCMLL

  1. rudos
    • Rey Bucaneoro cruficix cradle Atlantis (0:55)
  2. rudos
    • Dragon Lee hanging double stomp Rey Bucanero (5:48)
    • Negro Casas casita Dragon Lee (6:10)

Winner: rudos (1/2)
Match Time: 7:05
Notes: Post match, Cavernario pointed out he (well, his team) won in straight falls and demanded a match for “his” title back. Cometa harshly accepted, slapping Cavernario. They brawled, with the caveman coming on top.

Review: [ok] not a super match but a really strong build to Cometa & Cavernario. Those guys tore into each other the entire match and had a good scrum afterwards. Cavernario sequence to set up his Cavernario was so well done, looked totally professional. There’s every reason to believe next week’s title match will be just as good as their recent matches. Everyone else was backgrounded, which meant it was another easy night for Dragon Lee. He still looked cool, and seemed particularly excited to face Negro Casas. Dragon Lee could probably use an “old man finish” (maybe a submission?) because needing guys like Rey Bucanero to hang in the ropes and take the double stomp is awkward. This match achieved it’s goal even without their being a lot into it.

caveman is smart
