AAA on Televisa: 2017-03-04

super legdrop

Recapped: 03/04/2017

What happened: Monster & Murder betrayed Dr. Wagner. It wasn’t built to in the match or explained after, and Wagner won anyway thanks to them attacking Psycho Clown too. Perhaps if AAA keeps trying mystery angles, one will pay off.

A new look Cuervo & Scoria won a tag match. (The words Xinetez and Zorro are now on the forbidden list.) Soul Rocker cheated to beat Bengala. AAA announced some of the Rey de Reyes matches.

Tirantes was the referee in all three matches and played a neutral referee this week.

There were 26:01 of match time on this show, up about a minute from last week. There were 16:57 of entrance time on this show.

What was good: I liked the three way tag match with no reservations. The opener wasn’t as good as those have been and the main event was a typical AAA main event.

Where can I watch it: It’s on my channel, but looks much better on AAA’s channel. Read More

Guadalajara, IWRG, Rush vs UG tonight in Puebla

CMLL (SUN) 03/05/2017 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Arena Coliseo Guadalajara]
1) Guerrero de la Muerte b Micro
2) Carlo Roggi & Destructor b Avispón Negro Jr. & El Yaqui
3) El Divino & Javier Cruz Jr. b Demonio Rojo & Gran Kenut
referee was helping the rudos
4) Kempo Dragón, Sky Kid, Smaker b Mr. Trueno, Príncipe Kisho, Rey Trueno
First match for both Sinaloa guys since October.
5) Explosivo, Omar Brunetti, Star Black b El Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón
Explosivo snuck in a foul on Sanson. Tecnicos will get a title shot next week.

The Dinamitas appear to be Mexico City full time now, so a trios title change seems likely.

IWRG (SUN) 03/05/2017 Arena Naucalpan [+LuchaTV, Estrellas del Ring]
1) Átomo b Shadow Boy
2) Kanon vs Picudo Jr.
match not mentioned in the results
3) Black Dragón & Pantera b Black Terry & Diablo Jr.
Dragon pinned Terry. Pantera asked for a title shot and Diablo agreed for next week.
4) Relámpago © b Apolo Estrada [IWRG IC MIDDLE]
first defense. Relampago was bloody and had his mask ripped but kept his title.
5) Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II b Herodes Jr., Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Tigre Del Ring (Chihuahua)
Navarros got along, their opposition did not. Trauma II’s first match here in months due to a leg injury. Debut of Tigre del Ring.
6) Mr. Electro b Hip Hop Man
Electro snuck a beer bottle to Hip Hop Man’s head to win.
7) Danny Casas L Veneno, Chicano [hair]
Chicano beat Veneno first, then Veneno took Danny Casas’ hair.

I held off doing this post to get that Kanon & Picudo Jr. result but that’ll have to wait until later. Veneno beating Danny Casas is a bit of an upset. Hip Hop Man posted a photo of the cut on his head from Mr. Electro’s bottle. Apolo Estrada teased a ex-WWE joining his Insoportables group – Medico Asesino, I’m guessing. This all should air tonight on AYM.

Today’s Arena Puebla show has a Rush versus Ultimo Guerrero match. They had this same match in this same building four months. They’ve had this match in Arena Mexico since, and one in Arena Coliseo that hasn’t aired. Ultimo Guerrero always wins these, and these are just sort of OK of late. It’ll probably be OK again. There are other matches on the card that look better: Atlantis, Carisitco and Dragon Lee take on the Hijos del Inferno. (On Twitter, Caristico says his finish is now known as La Caristica.) The Revolucionarios take on Angel de Oro, Stuka and Titan in another match that’ll be good with some time and effort.

The rest of the card is not as promising. Soberano, Star and Stigma team up to take on Virus, Sangre Azteca and Canelo Casas, where some of the rudos are a challenge. Last week’s issues between Policeman & Espiritu Maligno leads to a tag match with the usually boring Black Tiger and Hijo del Signo. The show opens with Malayo & Guerrero Espacial facing Hijo de Centella Roja and Vega, in Vega’s first match here since November. He hasn’t been working much elsewhere, so he may be coming back from injury.

CultIcon has a preview of the show. It’ll air 9pm this week.

Next week it’ll be different. This will come up constantly for the next month, but this is your first notice that Daylight Savings Time starts this weekend in the US. It does not start in Mexico until April 2nd, so all shows airing from Mexico (except border towns like Tijuana) will be airing one hour later for four weeks starting on Sunday.

AIW had Gringo Loco on their podcast, talking about being dead for seven minutes after his heart attack, and lighter stories about wrestling in Mexico. He mentions DJZ is responsible for getting him back into wrestling after Mexico and getting him into AIW.

At Segunda Caida, Matt D defends Volador versus Yoshitatsu. I think he’s right that it would’ve been better if they just did a straight comedy match that he might do with Maximo instead of Volador trying to do the Volador match, but I also think the fans where whistling pretty strongly at the match in the second fall and is giving Tatsu credit for story telling he wasn’t trying to do.

AAA posted a Super Fly profile that hasn’t aired on TV yet.

+LuchaTV posted a new edition of Aqui esta la Lucha.

Lineups

CMLL (SAT) 03/11/2017 Arena Coliseo
1) Leono & Marvel vs Camorra & Cholo
2) Astral, Oro Jr., Sensei vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Espanto Jr., Nitro
3) Esfinge, Rey Cometa, Tritón vs Sangre Azteca, Skándalo, Tiger
4) Ángel de Oro, Máximo Sexy, Volador Jr. vs Mr. Niebla, Sam Adonis, Terrible
5) Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto © vs Blue Panther, Blue Panther Jr., The Panther [MEX TRIOS]
10th defense

Here’s the thing: CMLL is not going to a book a rudo vs rudo title match unless forced, because they are so far in the box that they don’t know there is a box. However, if the Panthers get the title win here, we might actually get the the Puma, Tiger, Negro Casas title match because then tecnicos will have the belts. And I think that’s a decent possibility.

CMLL (SUN) 03/12/2017 Arena México
1) Sangre Imperial & Starman vs Apocalipsis & Artillero
2) Eléctrico, Fantasy, Último Dragóncito vs Demus 3:16, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico
3) Estrellita, La Jarochita, Princesa Sugehit vs Amapola, Metálica, Zeuxis
4) Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Johnny Idol vs Mr. Niebla, Terrible, Vangellys
5) Carístico, Dragón Lee, Marco Corleone vs Kráneo, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero

Yea, they’re doing Dragon Lee vs Niebla Roja on the non-televisa show again. Oh well.

CMLL (SUN) 03/12/2017 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Black Sugar vs Quca
2) Cosmos & Johnny Dinamo vs Relámpago & Thunder Boy
3) Mágico & Metatrón vs Évola & Gran Kenut
4) Esfinge, Smaker, Tritón vs Difunto, Espectrúm, Maléfico
5) El Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón © vs Explosivo, Omar Brunetti, Star Black [OCCIDENTE TRIOS]
third defense

Triton & Esfinge are surprise inclusions for the local show. And I guess Metatron too, but I forget Metatron exists.

MDA (SUN) 04/02/2017 Arena Coliseo Monterrey
1) Extreme Boy & La Gaviota vs Chica de Arabia & Mini Bengalí
2) Babe Fox & Faceman vs Gallardo & Jesse
3) Hijo de LA Park & Saru vs Karateka Jr. & The Tiger
4) Douki vs Sam Adonis
5) Último Dragón & Xtreme Tiger vs Laredo Kid & Rey Horus
6) LA Park vs Rush vs Lashley vs Diamante Azul (CMLL)

what has Lashley got himself into? Why does Diamante Azul exist? Not sure how much to expect from Ultimo Dragon but that’s an creative semimain. Sam Adonis gets a Monterrey match, though they still haven’t figured out to book him against Mexicans.

03/05 AAA TV Results (Apizaco)

AAA

AAA TV (SUN) 03/05/2017 Plaza de Toros Rodolfo Rodriguez el Pana, Apizaco, Tlaxcala [AAA]
1) Argenis, Big Mami, Dinastía, El Elegido b Dave The Clown, La Hiedra, Mini Abismo Negro, Parka Negra
Argenis beat Parka Negra
2) Súper Fly b Bengala [no dq]
Moved down to the second match. Aerostar appeared, but he was still in a sling and not medically cleared. Vampiro appeared to put Bengala in the match instead.
3) Carta Brava Jr., Mocho Cota, Soul Rocker b Lanzeloth, Máscara de Bronce, Venum
Moved up to the third match. Carta beat Mascara de Bronce
4) Angélico & Australian Suicide b Dark Cuervo & Joe Lider, Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan [#1 Contenders, AAA TAG]
The announced Cuervo & Zorro and Bengala & Lider teams were merged into one (and Escoria was there to interfere), but Angelico still pinned Lider for the win.
5) Faby Apache b Ricky Marvin © [AAA TRIOS]
This was originally a lumberjack match with all three Apaches versus all three OGT. Instead, it was announced Mary Apache (car accident?) and El Apache (personal issues) were out of action. Averno offered Faby a singles match with Ricky Marvin, where Faby would win the trios titles if she won but would have to retire if she lost. (It’s listed as championships vs careerS, so Faby may have put the entire families’ career on the line.) Faby accepted and defeated Marvin to win the trios titles. The Apaches are eight champions, Faby & Mary the first women to win the titles. OGT lose the titles on their second defense (first on TV).
6) Texano Jr. © b Dr. Wagner Jr. [AAA HEAVY]
Scheduled as a three way with Psycho Clown, but Psycho didn’t appear. Vampiro instead made a singles match, with Texano’s title on the line. Late in the match, Psycho Clown appeared in the crowd bloodied, and that distracted Wagner to give Texano the win.

Air Date: 03/11 & 03/18 – this starts airing this upcoming. weekend

AAA is a promotion that seems to pride itself on taking things slowly, and saving’s it peak moments for a few shows a year. Until this show, where the seven months build to Faby & Mary finally getting the best of OGT happens in a spur of the moment match. I guess it possible that AAA was changing so many matches that they felt they had to do something big to make up for it, but some of those changes (like Psycho not being in the main event) seem to be AAA choices. It’ This is just random, and make all the slow story telling frustrating when the payoff is something given a segment of set up.

Speaking of long storytelling going no where, The photo of Hijo del Tirantes raising Faby Apache’s arm to signify victory is amazing. Though not for the “women wins men’s title!” bit AAA is going with. Hijo del Tirantes has been making Faby Apache’s life for years, and has been directly been heavily feuding with her for the last few months, as one of the focal points of the TV show. Suddenly, in Cuautitlan, on the TV airing this week, Hijo del Tirantes is a neutral referee with no explanation. Faby’s greatest enemy could’ve cost her career (and maybe her families careers too), but we’re supposed to not think about that because – uh, AAA’s decided to go in a direction? AAA just couldn’t be bothered to have another referee to do the match? I dunno.

Look, I don’t want to see Hijo del Tirantes as a heel referee. The end result here is good. Just, don’t expect people to take your storylines seriously when you can’t be bothered to tell endings to them. To be fair, it’s probably not an ending, and Hijo del Tirantes will be back being a heel referee sooner or later, and none of this will ever make sense. It is so dumb that I’m spending so many words on something not making sense in AAA because that’s the default position and expecting things to change is not smart. I can’t help myself.

(Theory: Did Vampiro come in with a booking change? Because this seems like a booking change. There’s noticeably nothing on this show that built up Rey de Reyes in anyway; the only thing they accomplished was to make you think Super Fly vs Aerostar wouldn’t be happening. Vampiro’s noticeably all over this show, when authority figures haven’t been a big presence on AAA TV of late. AAA switching from going out of their way to remove Pentagon, Daga and Garza off their lineups to changing half their TV lineup and not telling anyone is also suspicious.)

AAA’s sparse on Mary & Gran Apache’s status. Presumably they’re coming back soon if they’re being included in the trios title team, but this was so spur of the moment that I wouldn’t be sure they’ll ever defend the belts until they actually do. Again, Gran Apache hasn’t been seen in a match on December 3, is a guy in his 50s who’s spent his life doing professional wrestling, and I hope he’s OK.

Angelico seems like he’s out of country starting in April, so I suspect he and Suicide’s title shot will be the new long running plot line that AAA’s forgotten. Maybe they can actually just add them to the tag title match in Neza.

Joe Lider is 2 for 2 on taking the pins since the Rebelion left, and they didn’t even need to have him in the match this time. Texano/Wagner sounds interesting until the finish. Let’s all assume Wagner beat up Psycho and never think about it again.

On the Ciudad Juarez show last night, it was announced Verano de Escandalo would take place on June 4th. That’s about halfway between Rey de Reyes and TripleMania. Who knows what’ll happen then.

Next show is Rey de Reyes on 03/19.

great match roundup, week of 2017-02-25

The Panther tope

These are the shows I watched this past week. (This is me remembering to post this on a Monday)

The week started being frustrated with boring shows. It didn’t end boring. I’m already getting behind on doing indie posts in between these, maybe I’ll work on that this week.
