CMLL Martes de Glamour: 2017-02-21

Brillo armdrag (Brillo Enganche?)

Recapped: 02/21/2017

What happened: Volador kept his title over Ephesto, to the surprise of no one. Princes Sugehit defeated Zeuxis again before their title match on Saturday, and Cavernario pulled off Mistico’s mask before their own match on Sunday.

What was good: The fourth match is one of those matches that make going thru all these CMLL b-shows worthwhile. The main event wasn’t bad.

I remembered no one is forcing me to watch this and I am free to zoom through obvious garbage matches. Good times!

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s channel.

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 11:56

Review: [not rated] barely watched, did see Metatron’s atrocious tornillo. Apocalipsis looked worse, as impossible as that might sound.

maybe this was a senton? I don’t know

Match 2: Oro Jr., Príncipe Diamante, Starman vs Canelo Casas, Espanto Jr., Hijo del Signo

    • Starman suastica cradle Canelo Casas (3:14)

Winner: tecnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 13:38

Review: [ok] mostly watched to figure out who’s the second best luchador of this bunch, assuming Starman is #1. I think it’s Oro Jr., but it’s more he didn’t do anything wrong. The rudos looked unnoteworthy as always. Espanto looked no different than before his injury, which isn’t a great thing. Diamante looked sloppy and nervous, and these aren’t the rudos who are going to help settle him down. At least he got a win he had little to do with.

no

    • Princesa Sugehit satellite armbar Zeuxis (5:08)

Winner: tecnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 14:35
Notes: Sugehit took the mic to let Zeuxis know she’d beat her again Saturday for the title.

Review: [ok] The Sugehit/Zeuxis stuff was a really good preview for their title match, the rest I could do without. Sugehit and Zeuxis pulled out big moves, had some drama over the finish, and were moving very well. The other stuff had some flaws and dropkicks that didn’t go so well. Skadi is a giant often clumsy person, half the people in this promotion seem to use a splash as a finish, and Skadi’s using a scary looking shoulderbreaker. I don’t know how things work, clearly, because Zeuxis though it was a good idea to giver her a Spansih Fly too.

getting quite the collection of Zeuxis blowing up Sanely

    • Tiger backcracker/Puma middle rope stomp Stigma (7:03)
    • Fuego huracanrana Tiger (7:30)
    • Rey Cometa super frankensteiner Puma (8:45)

Winner: tecnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 18:09

Review: [great] Easy recommendable match, the usual good CMLL midcard trios plus a little extra. There’s a lot of matches like this, but they went a little harder and a little farther than they normally do and it made a difference. There’s just generally more effort in some of these – instead of each guy hitting a move in order in the third fall, each pair of guys does a sequence where it could go either way – and it makes it more fun. Tiger & Puma were on point as always, and just need a name for their finish to make my life easier, and everyone else was at their level. Sansón came off, in the match storyline if maybe also in real life, as really wanting to impress the cats. He fit in well, with remarkably solid looking offense for his time. Stigma doing a Brillo armdrag was pretty cool and Fuego got in his usual. Rey Cometa was the star for his team, and he and Puma really nailed the sequence at the end.

Puma comes out of nowhere to dropkick Cometa
Tiger with clever evasion
I liked the little inside cradle to set up the next move

Match 5: Máximo Sexy, Mistico, Titán vs Cavernario, Mephisto, Negro Casas
Arena México, 02/21/2017

VideosOficialesCMLL

  1. técnicos
    • Máximo half crab Negro Casas (6:12)
  2. técnicos
    • DQ Barbaro Cavernario [unmasking Mistico] (4:10)

Winner: técnicos (1/2)
Match Time: 10:22

Review: [ok] good while it lasted, but didn’t last all that long and not everyone involved was all that involevd. Mistico and Cavernario were going at hart to build up their match (maybe the Sunday one, maybe on here, who’s to stay.) Cometa & Titan gave us two straight matches with guy going a spinning headscissors ending up dizzy. This one accomplished what it was supposed to, but they can do better.

Tuesday stage dive

Match 6: Volador Jr. © vs Ephesto for the NWA World Welterweight Championship
Arena México, 02/21/2017
Video:
VideosOficialesCMLL

  1. Ephesto Code Red (3:43)
  2. Volador backcracker (3:19)
  3. Volador top rope frankensteiner (9:52)

Winner: Volador (2/3)
Match Time: 16:53

Review: [good] fine enough I suppose. Ephesto is not Mephisto, but they essentially tried to do a slower and less high spot version of the usual title match. Less high spots is relative, there were five dives in this match, they kicked out of each other’s finishes, they still went off the top rope to end it, they just stood on the top rope for about seven seconds before they felt safe trying to the finish. Ephesto got in plenty of offense and Volador carried the movement when possible, they didn’t defraud anyone with this match. Still, there’s so many Volador title matches and this just being a lesser version of the ones they’ve done doesn’t really interest me. They pulled the title match off but just having a good match didn’t disprove the reasons why it was a dumb idea.
