Mascara de Bronce soars thru space

Recapped: 02/14/2017

What happened: a Faby Apache cost OGT a match. The OGT strangely blamed this on Joe Lider. He and Kahn are the final two Perros del Mal. We found out the Mesias/Pagano feud stemmed from an attack on Dave the Clown and I will not get over this no matter how many times I type it. Dave the Clown!

This is Zorro’s final AAA match (at least for now) after 17 years with the promotion. Zorro knew he was leaving, though maybe not that this was his last match – he’s said he would’ve wanted to work his remaining dates if allowed – but no one else knows. There’s no reference to it during the commentary (which was done live, so they wouldn’t have noticed.) There’s also no attempt to down play or cut him out like the Rebelion guys, with the possible exception of the OGT/Apaches recap cutting out the Xinetez’ involvement.

What was good: The opener was fun. The main event is an interesting Angelico & Australian tag match sandwiched around a long La Parka comedy bit. The other match occurred.

Where can I watch it: It’s on AAA’s channel, and there’s handhelds around if you need all the AAA you can get.

Previously: Dr. Wagner & Psycho Clown agreed to a maks match, again. Aerostar & Super Fly less dramatically got to an apuesta match. Lady Shani won, challenged Taya for a title match, didn’t really get a yes or no but did get beat up. OGT beat the Apaches. (Zorro and the Xinetez’s interference is omitted from this video package.)

The upcoming show list mentions the 03/19 Monterrey show as Rey de Reyes. It had been presumed to be Rey de Reyes for a while, but this is the first announcement. No venue is listed, but Super Fly & Aerostar’s match is hyped.

Winner: técnicos (Mascara de Bronce shooting star press Mini Psycho Clown)
Match Time: 9:17
Notes: Mascara de Bronce has a new coat!

Review: [good] This was a fun if not always clean match. Lanzeloth & Soul Rocker had a rough spot earlier on and Mini Psycho and Dinastia weren’t as sharp as usual. Despite that, there was a lot of fun action and big spots from the técnicos. Mascara de Bronce had his best match by far, with the assisted dive over corner looking huge, and it was the perfect match for him to get the win. It’s a bit weird they had him beat Mini Psycho, especially if they had everything planned out and knew Mini Psycho was challenging for a title (while these other two guys aren’t doing much), but there’s worse logic problems. This looks like the start of a run of opening matches with interesting fringe guys, and it’s going to be a nice addition to these shows every couple weeks.

Match 2: Averno, Chessman, Joe Lider vs Dave The Clown, Monsther Clown, Murder Clown
Salón Rojo del Club Toluca, Toluca, Estado de México, 01/27/2017

ENTRE SEGUNDA Y TERCERAthecubsfanLucha Libre AAA

Winner: rudos (Murder Clown Volador Spiral Joe Lider)
Match Time: 12:21
Notes: OGT attack the Clowns from behind. The Perros music gets a good reaction, which quickly dies down when only Joe Lider and Kahn-Del-Mal walk out. Kahn holds onto the OGT’s selfit stick, which never gets used. Lider has no issues with his teammates. This is wrestled as a rudo/rudo match, with no side particularlly playing técnico. The crowd boos the Clowns more. Chessman & Lider are about to try to put Murder in a two man tapatia when Faby runs down and distractes Chessman with a chair. The clowns turn it around, ending those guys out and diving on to Chessman & Averno. Faby is plenty close enough to her rivals to attack them, but instead just stands with her chair and waits. Lider and Murder are left in, Murder winning with a Volador Spiral. Faby leaves as soon as the three count is made.

Zuniga defends the OGT, saying they didn’t lose, Lider did. Lider indicates his neck is hurt from the finish and doesn’t get up for the rest of the segment. The Clowns threaten Kahn when he checks on Lider. Averno gives the Clowns a little bit credit, but blames Joe Lider. Chessman & Averno are the best in the world, it couldn’t be their fault. Averno calls Lider a loser in life, it doesn’t matter if the people support him, he’s nothing but a dog. Averno slaps Lider, Khan pushes him, Chessman is about five seconds late in spearing him (because Lider is laying in the way) and Kahn takes a badly timed bump. OGT beat up the Perros. Lider is finally standing after the replays.

Review: [ok] a long brawl, never much heated or meaningful. There were some good Averno character moments and they hide anything from going bad, but this just wasn’t that interesting and went for a long time. They were stretching it out by the end. Poor camera work meant Joe Lider takes a big fall of a press slam and it’s not even shown, but that’s the least of his problems now. They so wanted him to get a chant in the post match and the crowd really didn’t care that much.

three man bomb on Dave
why does he fall on the side of his head?

Match 3: Angélico, Australian Suicide, La Parka vs Dark Cuervo, Dark Scoria, Zorro
Salón Rojo del Club Toluca, Toluca, Estado de México, 01/27/2017
Video:
ENTRE SEGUNDA Y TERCERAthecubsfanLucha Libre AAA

Winner: técnicos (Angelico fall of the angels Scoria)
Match Time: 13:02

Review: [ok] Angelico & Suicide had a really interesting looking double boost spot that was hard to follow the way it was shown. (Same thing with a latter SSP.) That’s not too surprising, more surprising was Parka helping set up Angelico for a spot. Actually helping his partners is way out of character for him, maybe me think that the departures had caused Parka to change his thinking, even if for just a moment. And then he did five minutes of comedy, so maybe not. Parka wasn’t part of the match with his teammates outside of that one spot, sitting out a lot of the beatdown and exiting the match on a tope while his partners did a couple more spots. This might have been intended to be a big win for Angelico, but it was broken up by the long Parka comedy in the middle that it didn’t feel like much. Probably could’ve been an easy good match with another partner; Suicide & Zorro had a surprisingly good exchange and everyone else worked well. Maybe just fast forward thru the Parka segment and you’ve got something.

Suicide tornillo
bad day to try a casadora
