Recapped: 01/24/2017

What happened: Valiente wore a shirt and pants. Times have changed! Also La Mascara gave Marco a lame looking foul to start a feud.

What was good: Nothing. I wanted to like the tercera but it never quite got there. The first three matches all dragged. I had been warned off the top matches.

I don’t think there’s a lot to get out of TGR or Mascara 2000 matches unless they’re surrounded by a lot of motivated and interesting. I’m going to try to do better at skipping matches which don’t warrant a review. My time is better served elsewhere.

Review: [ok] Average opener. Perverso seemed no better or worse than rest of the Puebla regular rudos. He’s a little younger and moves better, but he didn’t do much that stood out positively and just looks like a random guy. Doing Último Guerrero’s dropkick and Sangre Azteca’s dropkick just is a good way to make yourself look like a guy who can’t do his own things. The técnico trio was a good group of flyers, with Lestat & Rey Samurai looked better than Zaeta Roja. Maybe Zaeta’s terribly aimed moonsault in the first fall just put me off him, because he was relatively ok the rest of the way. Samurai & Lestat had a neat double team finish that the cameras had no idea how to catch live.

Review: [ok] another match which didn’t offer much. Joker & Espíritu have the makings of a good team, but the match itself was directionless. It wasn’t helped by the first fall going so long, longer than the next two falls combined. Acero and Aereo were struggling tonight and moving slow. Pierrothito’s rolling cradle was a nice addition to the variety of rolling cradles.

Review: [ok] This one started well, got a little iffy during the rudo section, and picked up a little bit but not enough to recommended it. I know they have better in this, there’s no reason to drop the bar enough for them to get over it. The rudos one because Olímpico stopped with the pretense of the wrestling match, and that’s no good. I liked Esfinge’s mat work in the opening fall, but then he spent the rest of the match trying to get over his new butt shake and I can tell I’m not going to like him much going forward.
