Very much a show. Really amazing the Maximo/Casas feud on Tuesday in Arena Mexico slipped thru with how little they were doing this week.

Really, not anything advanced on this show either, but it was still a fun show. Cometa/Cavernario, the Casas/Panthers, Volador/Mephisto and the main event were the best matches. Puma, Tiger and Casas winning seems notable, if only because CMLL didn’t beat the team that’s owed a trios title shot. That’s better than usual.  Almost all the tecnicos won on the show aimed at children, and the only rudos who won are the ones who get cheered anyway.

Not sure about the crowd. They avoided panning the crowd the whole night. The lower bowl looked heavily occupied when we’d get a shot of it, but they’re careful what they show. We never got to see the upper area. There were people posting photos from up there on social media, but all from about the same range of seats.

The show did not air live on NJPW World. Instead, it’ll air tomorrow, with Japanese commentary. That’s the first time they’ve done that. It’s probably timed to talk about FantasticaMania.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 01/13/2017 Arena México
1) Astral & Eléctrico vs Demus 3:16 & Pierrothito
2) Estrellita, La Vaquerita, Silueta vs Amapola, La Comandante, Tiffany
3) Blue Panther, Johnny Idol, The Panther vs Kráneo, Ripper, Sam Adonis
4) Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Bobby Z [lightning]
5) Ángel de Oro, Marco Corleone, Valiente vs El Cuatrero, Máscara Año 2000, Sansón
6) Carístico, Diamante Azul, Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs Mephisto, Rey Bucanero, Terrible

The flip side to the luchadors going to FantasticaMania is some weak cards in Mexico for a couple weeks. CMLL’s decided to fix this by bringing back Rayo de Jalisco for a visit again. Rayo’s last match in Arena Mexico back in September, where his match got booed out of the building. Maybe it’ll go better this time. I’m mostly surprised they resisted booking him against the Dinamtias. Mascara is back to be a warm body and fill up a spot.

Maya/Bobby is the En Busca de un Idolo fued back again. Ripper’s feud with Blue Panther Jr. is on hold for a couple weeks, so he can feud with Panther Jr.’s brother and father instead. Silueta is back in the segunda. Despite the high volume of women’s matches, Silueta’s only wrestled in Arena Mexico 3 times in the last 4 months. There’s probably a story we’re not getting about that.
