CMLL Sin Piedad: 2017-01-01

Mascara is shoving Maximo off him while being pinned

Recapped: 1/1/2017

What happened: Máximo beat Mascara Año 2000 in their hair match. Blue Panther Jr. and Ripper continued to have issues following Friday’s show.

What was good: Nothing. The undercard matches were people who not enthusiastic about being in the show, and their was no miracle in the main event.

Where can I watch it: It aired on CMLL’s YouTube channel. But probably don’t waste your time.

    • Pierrothitna on Astral (5:26)

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 14:22
Notes: Aereo replaced Stukita

Review: [ok] exactly as it looked: a little bit entertaining, a little bit messy, and Demus not really caring if his opponent has a working neck after his finish. The second fall comeback spots looked amateur hour and the match was never all that interesting. The rudos entertain themselves but this one was missing the life Stukita provides.

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 15:52
Notes: Panther and Ripper heavily feuded.

Review: [ok] passable match, with nothing botched but not all that much interesting. There wasn’t much life into this match out the Ripper/Panther feud, and even Panther’s tope at the end seemed half effort. It felt like the rudos controlled it for a very long time without doing very much with it, and Maya & Oro were not much memorable. It looked like Angel de Oro messed up his own finishing cradle to end the match, but at least Bobby remembered how to do his for the first time in a while.

Match 3: Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Stuka Jr. vs Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 7:39

Review: [ok] more of the same. This was a bit more entertaining even if it was more clear that people in the match would rather be doing anything else but be in a match. Monito spearing Zacarias was the highlight of the whole thing, and this is another forgettable match.

Monito 2, Zacarias 0 this weekend

Match 4: Carístico, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, Hechicero, Mephisto
Arena México, 01/01/2017

  1. rudos

  2. técnicos
    • Valiente seated armabr (1:48)

  3. técnicos
    • La Mistica on Mephisto (7:10)

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 10:42

Review: [ok] The best match of the undercard, though it dragged at points. Volador & Mephisto also paused and rewinded a sequence near the end in minor league style, but it turned into the big dives to end it so I guess I can live. Mephisto and Carístico had fun and Hechicero played good well. Still, this undercard looked vastly underwhelming on paper and was less than that when it actually happened.

Match 5: Máximo vs Máscara Año 2000 for the hair
Arena México, 01/01/2017

  1. Mascara Ano 2000 step over tibaruzon (1:15)
  2. Máximo half crab (1:27)
  3. Máximo double kiss (8:22)

Winner: Maximo (2/3)
Match Time: 11:04
Notes: Seconds are Stuka Jr. and Bobby Z. Mascara kicked out at the finish because of course he did. Mascara tried to walk out, but Máximo kissed to subdue him.

Review: [ok] I was hoping for the crazy Máximo big spot fest to make up for what Mascara couldn’t do. Instead, they had Mascara dominate the match to build drama. They did the CMLL version of smoke and mirrors, with Bobby getting in a lot more involved than normal for a second and Edgar subtly favoring Mascara early on. Máximo sold every one of Mascara’s shots like they were big blows. It still wasn’t any good, but it made it harder for them to mess up. It’s better that Máximo won, but I don’t understand the point of any of this.

Bobby had about 1/4th of the offense and took the dive
