CMLL Martes de Nuevo Valores: 2016-12-27

gringos doing silly things in Mexico, the norm

Recapped: 12/27/2016

What happened: Nothing. Vaquerita got a revenge win on Zeuxis, but that’s pushing it.

What was good: The women’s match was good and the semimain was enjoyable.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s channel.

Match 1: Acero & Fantasy vs Pequeño Nitro & Pequeño Violencia

    • Fantasy Spanish fly Pequeño Nitro (3:24)
    • Acero step over armbar Pequeño Violencia (3:35)

Winner: tecnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 13:45
Notes: The start of the match is not shown. CMLL plays audio, but shows their filler bumper instead of the match for the first 80 seconds. Rey Bucanero turns up in the third fall as the guest announcer for the show.

Review: [ok] This really didn’t hold my interest at all, to the point where I should’ve just skipped it entirely and saved the time, but it did appeared to be better than usual. Pequeño Violencia doesn’t seem like he wants to be here, but Acero and Pequeño Nitro tried something things and Fantasy was about normal. There was a finish that was broken up, which is more than usual.

Fantasy is better as Spanish Flys than Caristico

Match 2: Magia Blanca, Oro Jr., Stigma vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Canelo Casas, Inquisidor
Arena México, 12/27/2016
Video: VideosOficialesCMLL

  2. rudos

  3. tecnicos
    • Magia Blanca springboard frog splash Canelo Casas (3:27)
    • Stigma casadora cradle Arkangel (4:12)

Winner: tecnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 15:55

Review: [below average] Oro Jr. crotching himself on a 619 (and Canelo selling a kick that comes nowhere near him) is so unbelievably bad that I want to rate the whole thing negatively. Oro Jr. has been in CMLL four years now, and it’s very possible he’s worse now than when he started. Inquisidor looked OK, Magia Blanca was fine outside of using the same corner tornillo Star & Soberano are using but being noticabely not as good on them, but this match had some problems. The second fall rudo miscommunication bit ended weirdly, with Inquisidor & Arkangel being angry and Canelo and then just wandering over and moving on without the usual surprise-the-tecnico payoff. It didn’t seem to be the start of Canelo turn either, because it was never followed up. It was just a normal bit done poorly. Also poor was Arkangel pulling Magia Blanca up on pins, because he wanted to make sure you knew he would’ve won this utterly pointless segunda if he wanted to. Maybe he’s right.

Match 3: Estrellita, La Vaquerita, Marcela vs Amapola, La Comandante, Zeuxis

  2. rudas

  3. tecnicas
    • Vaquerita rosa buster Zeuxis (4:00)

Winner: tecnicas (1/3)
Match Time: 12:42
Notes: This is Vaquerita’s first match unmasked, and she got

Review: [good] Best women’s match on this show in a while, I think. It didn’t have the errors of the second match or the boredom of the opener, they were working a quick pace and doing a lot with their time. Marcela looked better in this match than in the title match the night before, and this was a good performances out of Amapola and La Comandante. Zeuxis bullying Vaquerita and Vaquerita getting the (expected) win back over here gave the match something to build towards, and Vaquerita’s finish looked brutal. Crowd was totally into it and deservedly so.

Vaquerita wins

Match 4: Okumura vs Puma in a lightning match
Arena México, 12/27/2016
Video: VideosOficialesCMLL

Winner: Okumura (german suplex)
Match Time: 6:57
Notes: This is a rudo/rudo match because Okumura is replacing the Panther, though that was announcer a couple days ahead of time and it’s unclear why they didn’t just get another técnico.

Review: [ok] just a weird match, with them doing nothing in particular to deal with it being rudo/rudo. Puma played to the crowd a little more during the match, but didn’t really work as a técnico. The ending was strange too, with Okumura just hitting a big move, Puma kicking out, Okumura hits another big move, Puma kicks out, Okumura hits a third big move and Puma doesn’t come out. That’s not a normal CMLL ending. The work was solid but it was hard to figure what they they’re going for, if they were going for anything.

Match 5: Guerrero Maya Jr., Johnny Idol, Rey Cometa vs Bobby Z, Sam Adonis, Vangellys
Arena México, 12/27/2016
Video: VideosOficialesCMLL

  1. rudos
    • Vangelys northern lights suplex Rey Cometa (5:26)
  2. técnicos
    • Johnny Idol moonsault Sam Adonis (3:49)
    • Rey Cometa hurcanrana Bobby Z (3:57)
  3. técnicos
    • Sam Adonis & Johnny Idol double pin on bridging back suplex (4:41)
    • Guerrero Maya Dos Caras Clutch Vangellys (5:38)

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 15:02

Review: [good] crowd really being into this helped make this one a little bit more memorabale, and it was worked. Adonis really didn’t do a lot to antagonize the fans outside of bringing the Trump flag (and a few motions on the outside), and that was enough for people to go crazy. He seemed fired up in this match, doing a few spots we haven’t seen him from before. Rey Cometa seemed to be having a ball in this one, from trying to start stuff with Adonis, to spinning around dizzy after his airplane spin, to his dance around the flag at the end. Adonis & Cometa, as Cometa’s annual hair match, could be fun if they ran with it. This was a fun time.

Match 6: Atlantis, Máximo Sexy, Valiente vs Ephesto, Gran Guerrero, Mephisto
Arena México, 12/27/2016
Video: VideosOficialesCMLL

  1. rudos
    • Pulpo Guerrero on Atlantis (4:22)
  2. técnicos
    • Máximo splash everyone (4:21)
  3. técnicos
    • Valiente pin Ephesto (6:21)
    • Máximo kiss Gran Guerrero (6:28)

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 15:11

Review: [ok] this was a match building up Máximo kissing Mephsito all match, and then Máximo ended up kissing – Ephesto and Gran Guerrero and never Mephisto. Oh well. This was a Máximo match playing to a casual crowd, which didn’t show the home viewer anything new but worked for the audience it was intended. We got Valiente wearing pants, so we didn’t get totally short changed.
