Recapped: 11/29/2016

What happened: Valiente & Ultimo Guerrero are feuding too.

What was good: The tercera was fun in the usual way terceras are.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s channel now and 52MX in a couple weekends.

Match 1: Black Tiger, Meyer, Vega vs Ares, Guerrero Espacial, Sombra Diabólika
Arena Puebla, 11/28/2016

  1. técnicos
    • Meyer top rope plancha Sombra Diabolica (7:40)
    • Vega springboard huracanrana Ares (8:05)
  2. rudos
    • Sombra Diabolika standing figure four Black Tiger (5:19)
  3. rudos
    • Black Tiger espectrina Ares (7:27)

Winner: rudos (2/3)
Match Time: 20:51

Review: [ok] really long for an opener, and felt too long by the third fall. Vega’s more exciting than we usually get in openers, even if he’s not always technically perfect. Ares and his ninja pants didn’t have a great night and seemed to be in a lot. Sombra Dibaolika continues to be OK, and at least Black Tiger’s maneuver into the espectrina was nice.

    • Sanely casita Seductora (3:13)
    • Princesa Sugehit La Regia Tiffany (3:@4)

Winner: tecnicas (1/3)
Match Time: 14:23

Review: [ok] just another women’s match. Estrellita dominated the attention. The first falls strike battle between Sanely & Seductora was not pretty. Tiffany selling the Sugehit’s hold even after she left it go was amusing. There’s not much you can get out of this one.

Match 3: Esfinge, Fuego, Stigma vs Puma, Skándalo, Tiger
Arena Puebla, 11/28/2016

  1. rudos
    • Tiger dropkick to the backside Esfinge (6:14)
    • Puma reinera Stigma (6:24)
  2. técnicos
    • Esfinge springboard plancha all three rudos (3:00)
  3. técnicos
    • Esfinge backcracker Fuego (5:13)

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 14:37

Review: [good] one of the better midcard matches, with a lot of action, especially in the third fall. Tiger looked sharp the whole way, and Skandalo mostly stayed out of the way, so it worked well. (Skandalo wasn’t so great in catching dives.) The técnicos really have no idea how to react to the cats new “stuck in the corner, head down, dropkick to the backside” spot; Esfinge might have stayed stuck in the corner forever if he wasn’t freed. Esfinge almost got knocked out on the triple dive before he even died, just having the ropes snap back at him in a bad way. He managed to recover quick and just keep going.

    • Shocker middle rope elbow drop (5:49)
  2. tecnicos

    • Kraneo hipsmash Diamante Azul (5:47)
    • Ripper senton Johnny Idol (6:05)

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 15:48

Review: [ok] just a generic match with Shocker & Máximo doing their normal bits of comedy in between. Kraneo seemed to be in a jolly mood as well. Does he get to play Santa this year if Brazo de Plata is still not cleared? This is a more important consideration than this match.

  1. técnicos
    • La Mascara corner double knee smash Mistico (4:34)
  2. rudos
    • Mistico La Mistica Gran Guerrero (2:04)
    • Volador inside cralde La Mascara (2:04)
  3. técnicos
    • DQ Último Guerrero [unmasked Valiente] (3:43)

Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 10:21
Notes: There’s quite a bit of stalling before this gets started, set off by UG cheapshotting Valiente (which is missed by the production.) UG refuses to fight Valiente, though Valinete spends about two minutes trying to change his mind. UG finally runs Valiente into the wall and the match improves from there. UG ends up pulling off Valiente’s mask as he’s being put in Valiente’s hold, and that’s the DQ. Tecnicos demand a rematch and would get one for next week.

Review: [ok] not really much of a main event, kind of an OK just because it’s easier to give one than really spend much time thinking about it. It was a small match around the Valiente/UG build, with most of the first fall killing time to build up to that and not a lot in the other two falls to make up for it. Volador winning via inside cradle is not the greatest effort out of Volador. Mistico was trying a bit harder. Valiente slipping on an easy springboard makes me kind of OK he’s not doing the Valiente Special as much any more; I like the Valiente who could do that move safely a lot better.
