the build up to the tope is as good as the tope
the build up to the tope is as good as the tope

Recapped: 11/07/2016

What happened: Mistico, Diamante and Mascara Dorada earned a title shot next week. So did Hechicero, with a bit of cheating.

What was good: The cibernetico was good, though there’s been better.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s channel.

Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 10:55
Notes: Audio doesn’t start working until 7:22 into the video (about a minute into the match.)

Review: [ok] técnicos did some cool flippy things at times, the rudos are part of helping that so that’s nice. There was more energy than usual, there just wasn’t much direction to the match. Could be worse!

Match Time: 14:48

Review: [not rated] Nah, not watching this one. (It didn’t appear to be any good.) Seductora wrestled in (purposefully) shredding t-shirt on top of her gear, and now is wrestling sleeveless to display her tattoos, looking more like the guitarist on a 80s metal band who’s group is now playing fairs during the summer. In reality, I bet she has some great stories. Matches still aren’t any good, but probably good stories.

Match 3: Drone, Guerrero Maya Jr., The Panther vs Kráneo, Pólvora, Ripper

  3. rudos
    • Ripper senton Panther (5:52)
    • Pólvora Driver on Guerrero Maya Jr. (6:27)

Winner: rudos (2/3)
Match Time: 16:11
Notes: Announcers acknowledge Drone is the former Hombre Bala on commentary. Rey Bucanero jokes about Bala coming from a great family (he meant himself, they’re cousins.) Tirantes is referee with one white glove for no evident reason. Maya kicks out of the finish at 3.01.

Review: [ok] a low energy match, with the rudos really not doing much in the first two falls and the técnicos coming back in the most generic way in the third fall. Really should’ve been better given the names involved. They protected Drone – he got the first fall win as a surprise and didn’t get pinned in the third fall. I don’t know if there’s a bigger plan, but both matches have been that way.

  2. Stuka code red Misterioso (7:27)
  3. Bobby Z running dropkick Esfinge (9:00)

  6. Atlantis huracanrana Bobby Z (13:05)
  7. Valiente Buster on Gran Guerrero (14:17)
  8. La Mascara double knee smash Stuka Jr. (15:07)
  9. Atlantis casadora La Mascara (16:06)
  10. Hchicero conjuro Atlantis (17:37)
  11. Hechicero feet on the ropes Valiente (22:47)

Winner: Hechicero
Match Time: 12:47
Notes: No battle royal, they just go técnicos versus rudos. Announcers press Rey Bucanero on who he would like to face, and he picks referee Edgar Noriega. Panther’s hurt after taking Gran Guerrero’s corner slam and needs help walking to the back. Mascara also needs help walking to the back, though it’s not clear why (or it may just be Tirantes fooling around.) Hechicero reverses a sunset flip and scissors the ropes with his legs to stay on top. He tracks Bucanero down to the desk and they face off before next week’s title match.

Review: [good] A solid cibernetico, better than the usual matches but lacking a lot of excitement and craziness. Maybe Atlantis going so late will do that to a match. The middle of the match didn’t have many big stuff, only a little more than the eliminations until the end, but it’s not unexpected given the people involved. Hechicero is almost a non-factor until the last few people, saving the work for others and saving himself for the final stretch, I guess.

It’s kind of unsurprising Hechicero won when they got down to the final four – Atlantis & La Mascara re already champions, and Valiente is the Universal final (and about to be champion of that!) – but the crowd still seems shocked when Hechicero beats Atlantis and not sure how it’s going to turn out. He and Valiente get a good amount of time finish it up and it has the best stretch of the match. It slows a bit down with Hechicero trying to be a rudo, but it does work well enough to get the crowd booing the right person.

Match 5: Diamante Azul, Máscara Dorada, Mistico vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
Arena México, 10/25/2016
Video:
VideosOficialesCMLL

  1. técnicos
    • DQ Ephesto [mask pull on Diamante Azul] (5:02)
  2. técnicos
    • La Mistica on Mephisto (4:22)

Winner: técnicos (1/2)
Match Time: 9:24
Notes: There’s no sound for a while; it’s a problem with the stream. It posts back up at the 2:00:23 mask in the video, about two minutes into the second fall. Tecnicos confront the rudos at the steps, with Msitico chasing them up there and getting stomped. Dorada and Azul just stand and point until they get beat up as well. Ephesto pulls Diamante Azul’s mask off as Azul lifts him in a press slam for the first fall DQ. Dorada challenged for a trios title shot, more clearly this week, and Mephisto accepted.

Review: [ok] this was better than last week for sure, but still not much of a match. Some stuff was even just repeated from last week (as Ephesto/Diamante Azul might have been a replay) and Mephisto had a rough second fall with obvious blown spots with Mistico and Dorada. They did two weeks of this build because that’s what they do, but this second match didn’t really make it any more interesting; it’s still very much an instafeud with nothing to it.
