mini doomsday
mini doomsday

Recapped: 11/04/2016

What happened: Dalys kept their titles. Los Ingobernables cheated to win, so that’s normal.

What was good: The earlier matches were better than the late matches for sure. I liked the opening minis match the most, and the three that followed had some value, but those last couple matches were as rushed as anything you’d get Monday/Tuesday.

Where can I watch it: It’ll be on my channel soon.

Match 1: Astral & Stukita vs Mercurio & Pequeño Nitro
Arena México, 11/04/2016

  1. técnicos
    • Astral armdrag into a crucifix cradle Pequeño Nitro (5:04)
    • COR Mercurio [Stukita top rope headscissors off apron] (5:29)
  2. rudos
    • Pequeño Nitro jacknife pin Stukita (6:31)
    • COR Astral [Pequeño Nitro top rope splash] (6:53)
  3. técnicos
    • Astral plancha Mercurio (2:37)
    • Stukita triple scorpion Pequeño Nitro (3:18)

Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 15:40

Review: [good] Really fun opener. They didn’t do dives, but they did everything else and the crowd got really into it for these guys. Really nice to have Mercurio back in the mix; his offense is sometimes not so great (so much biting), but he’s up for whatever idea the técnicos wanted to do. The headscissors to the floor in the first fall of the show was amazing. Nitro & Mercurio are better together than they apart, their teamwork is the best of all the minis. I have no idea how Astral can be so agile while being so musclebound, but he hasn’t broken anything yet.

Match 2: Blue Panther Jr., Esfinge, Pegasso vs Okumura, Pólvora, Virus
Arena México, 11/04/2016

  1. técnicos
    • Esfinge springboard plancha Virus (5:47)
    • Blue Panther Jr. German suplex Okumura (6:11)
  2. rudos
    • Okumura hanging DDT Esfinge (3:45)
  3. rudos
    • Virus nudo Pegasso (5:44)
    • Super Pólvora Driver on Blue Panther (6:37)

Winner: rudos (2/3)
Match Time: 16:33
Notes: Esfinge was being checked on by the doctors at the end, though didn’t seem severly hurt.

Review: [good] Not as strong as the previous match, but still well above average for this position. Blue Panther Jr. is getting better at the things he does, and Esfinge had a few good moments. Virus does small things really great – suddenly moving Pegasso into a finish out of nowhere was smooeth – but I laughed when he stared at Okumura pin and couldn’t bother to break it up. Okumura otherwise got booked as a superhero in this.

Arena México, 11/04/2016

  1. rudos
    • Dragon Rojo inverted gory stretch Rey Cometa (4:55)
    • Terrible jackhammer Guerrero Maya (5:12)
  2. técnicos
    • Rey Cometa frog splash Bobby Z (2:27)

  3. rudos
    • Dragon Rojo Jr. top rope double stomp Guerrero Maya Jr. (6:04)
    • Bobby Z powerbomb Rey Cometa (6:04)

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 13:43

Review: [good] another well worked match, though none I didn’t feel as strongly about as the previous couple. The first fall was cold – Terrible’s mat work didn’t get the crowd – and they could’ve used some sort of feud. Still, all the big spots were really well done and the finishes to the last two falls were particularly impressive. Bobby Z could’ve used a better catch on Stuka’s monkey flip tope con giro.

Match 4: Dalys © vs Marcela for the CMLL World Women’s Championship
Arena México, 11/04/2016

  1. Marcela Michinoku Driver (3:05)
  2. Dalys double wristlock cradle (2:54)
  3. Dalys escorpion (7:40)

Winner: Dalys (2/3)
Match Time: 13:39

Review: [good] a solid title match which the crowd cared about around the near falls, though it didn’t feel as good as their matches in the Spring. This match just felt slow and didn’t have a lot of a story – Dalys surviving the double stomp at the end was the only notable thing. They seemed to work hard and there were no problems with the match, but it was missing some stronger emotion for me.

Match 5: Atlantis, Dragón Lee, Mistico vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
Arena México, 11/04/2016

  1. rudos
    • Luciferno Clash on Mistico (3:16)
    • Ephesto shouldrebreaker Dragon Lee (3:16)
  2. técnicos
    • Dragon Lee double stomp Ephesto (2:36)
    • Mistico half crab Luciferno (2:39)
  3. técnicos
    • Atlantida on Mephisto (4:33)

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 10:28

Review: [ok] weakest match of the show to this point. Luciferno and Ephesto did not look good at all, and this was a weaker version of the high flying matches we’ve been used to seeing. Mephisto didn’t do so good catching Dragon Lee’s dive, but he was other way ahead of his teammates on this and probably could use some better ones. Mistico & Dragon Lee weren’t going to have a big match either way, but this didn’t change things. This had a Puebla main event style hot last minute or so, but it really wasn’t that good before it.

Match 6: Marco Corleone, Máximo Sexy, Volador Jr. vs La Máscara, Pierroth, Rush in a relevos increíbles match
Arena México, 11/04/2016

  1. Los Ingobernables
    • Pierroth middle rope elbow drop Marco (0:59)
    • La Mascara corner double knee smash Máximo (1:13)
  2. Los Ingobernables
    • Rush corner dropkick Máximo (4:55)
    • Marco Corleone plancha Mascara (5:15)
    • Rush pin Volador (5:55)

Winner: Los Ingobernables (2-1)
Match Time: 7:09
Notes: Pierroth took a Volador backbracker and sprung into Tirantes to take him out. Mascara snuck back in and fouled Volador. Rush took up the pin. Rush did a standard promo, and Máximo made some challenges that the Ingobernables ignored.

Review: [ok] surprisingly a nothing match considering the names; they rushed thru two falls and finished with some really empty promos. This is a borderline match to be just OK. Crowd got into the comeback but there wasn’t much else to this. Volador got in a dive but had one of his easiest nights in months. Pierroth’s elbow drop was so bad. Máximo was speaking oddly slow in his post match promo and I’m not sure how he was bloody after the show.
