Notes: Virus and The Panther never tagged out in the first fall, with Panther submitting Virus on an ankle hold.

Review: [good] I’m not sure if this match would stand out to people who don’t watch a lot of CMLL (or maybe too much CMLL), because a lot of the entertainment of this match is how it breaks the usual patterns. It’s a Blue Panther stylized match in that way: the first fall ends without anyone getting tagged in, the second fall is nearly as limited in participants, and the third fall features a lot of false and occasional surprise flash finishes. The action itself wasn’t spectacular – the early mat wrestling was a novelty because they were doing stuff outside the norm, but it didn’t feel high end Virus stuff either – but it was new action in a promotion that sticks to the same action as much as possible. Crowd seemed a little caught off guard by the first fall ending when it did, but they got into the third fall. Blue Panther continues to take a back seat to his sons in these trios matches: the crowd, myself, and an overacting Tirantes desperately wanted to see Panther wrestle Virus, they build it up in the match, and then they just disappointingly limited themselves to a couple quick sunset flips before getting out of there. They did come back later for more, but they never seem to do the lengthy Panther/Virus confrontation in one of these because the mindset is all about giving those big movements to the young guys (so Panther Jr. gets both submissions as the finish.)

Match 4: Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Hechicero in a lightning match
Arena México, 10/04/2016

Winner: Hechicero (bodyscissors and head shake submission)
Match Time: 8:56

Review: [good] This was more like a league match between these two than a typical lightning match. They used some of their usual spots, but not all of them, and it wasn’t just reciting familiar sequences. They got into moves unusual ways and it felt like a unique match compared to other matches. It never reached very high level of intensity, they just didn’t have enough time to do so and they were working a clam pace, but everything looked very solid and they played off those usual spots a bit. This was obviously hurt by having the lightning match time limitation, because they just had the crowd into match by the end of it, and could’ve gone twice the time without a problem. (I had convinced myself they were going time limit draw hen watching it live.) Hechicero adapting the killer kneelift as the setup for crazy submission holds is a nice twist. Maya doesn’t break out the moonsault to the floor often. The referee’s slow count on a few of the pinfalls was just painful.

Match 6: Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone, Titán vs Kráneo, Pierroth, Rush

  1. rudos
    • Pierroth senton Marco Corleone (2:36)
    • Kraneo hipsmash Titan (2:58)
  2. rudos
    • DQ Diamante Azul [DQ on Rush] (3:53)

Winner: rudos (1/2)
Match Time: 6:51
Notes: Rush attacks Diamante Azul from behind to start the fight. Diamante Azul accidentally shoved Rush into Tirantes, Rush faked a foul, Diamante Azul was confused, and Tirantes awarded the DQ. The best part of this was Pequeno Violencia rushing back out to celebrate with the banner, because he was sad he didn’t get to come out with Pierroth before.

Review: [ok] Titan against big guys remains fun; a Titan/Kraneo or Titan/Rush match would be awesome. Otherwise, the idea of this feud is Rush doesn’t take Diamante Azul (or Tuesdays!) all that seriously and he’s not wrong. CMLL not bothering to make the house mic audible on the feed was just about right.
