Ultimo Guerrero keeps title over Valiente (again), Heroes Inmortales preview

CMLL (SAT) 10/01/2016 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Acero & Aéreo b Pequeño Universo 2000 & Pequeño Violencia
2) Cancerbero, Inquisidor, Raziel b Bengala, Metálico, Star Jr.
Metalico replaced Bandido. Rudos took 1/3.
3) Amapola, Dalys, La Comandante b La Vaquerita, Marcela, Skadi
Vaquerita replaced Estrellita. Rudas took 2/3.
4) Atlantis, Máximo Sexy, Titán DQ Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
Tecnicos took 2/3. Niebla caused the DQ, still wants a title shot against Maximo. Maximo accepted.
5) Último Guerrero © b Valiente [NWA MIDDLE]
8th defense. UG took 2/3 to beat Valiente yet again. Money thrown in.

We’ve seen UG/Valiente a lot, and it sounds like it went well. We haven’t seen Niebla/Maximo in a title match – it’d be Niebla’s first challenge for the heavyweight title in five years.

Hard to understand a) how Bandido was listed on this card if he’s been exiled to Elite, b) how no one figured it out by the time it was time to write the preview and c) how they didn’t have a tecnico guy there ready to replace Bandido.

Today, with a listed 6pm start time, is AAA’s tenth Heroes Inmortales. I didn’t end up writing a preview for this show when it turned out not to be a PPV, but it’s still going thru the matches quickly:

7) El Patrón Alberto & Psycho Clown vs Dr. Wagner Jr. & Pagano

Alberto sent in an instagram promo where he didn’t mention anyone else in the match. There’s a decent chance the first Pagano match he’ll see is the one he’s in. That’ll be a treat. Alberto’s advertised in Juarez, so he’s probably going to be on Guerra de Titanes as well, and this should be about setting up a match for that show.

6) Australian Suicide vs Daga [mask, hair, street fight]

The outcome will be no surprise. It’s really just a chance for these two guys to have a memorable match. It’s hard to move up here even with an impressive outing, but there are spots opened higher up on the card and maybe this will help one of them get there.

5) Garza Jr. vs Johnny Mundo © [AAA LA]

Probably heated and definitely with a lot of Monterrey silliness. AAA could make Garza a much bigger deal nationally with a win, but it seems too early in Mundo’s run for him to give up this title. I’d like to see Pentagon get the rematch too, though Alberto challenging next would give him an opponent he likes and a possible title win without messing with the top match.

4) Hijo del Fantasma, La Parka, Texano Jr. vs ??, ???, El Mesías

A match! It’ll be alright. I think we’re going to look back and figure out this show should’ve been blowoff to the Team Trump stuff, but it’s tough to do when half the Team Trump is (apparently) not going to be there. (Cage is in the UK, not sure where Hernandez is going to be.) AAA’s done nothing to set up this match. As much as I like Fantasma & Texano, it’ll probably be OK if they skip it for TV.

3) El Apache, Faby Apache, Mary Apache vs Averno, Chessman, Ricky Marvin

The OGT were surprisingly strong in the first match and should continue to be so; they’re going for the trios title next judging by the lineups. The only question is if the Apaches will squeak out a win to make it a three team feud.

2) Zorro vs El Elegido, Pimpinela Escarlata, Niño Hamburguesa, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 [Copa Antonio Pena]

This seems like one of the more interesting matches live, because I have no idea who can show up (and it’s the one time where I’d be disappointed not see Konnan Big.) Marty the Moth is in town, as is Vampiro, so there’s probably some Lucha Underground participation. Note that even their match at TripleMania didn’t air, so there’s no reason to suspect those guys will be any more over this time and I’m not sure throwing them out there with no build in a battle royal will help their situation. AAA just needs bodies, I suppose.

1) Aerostar & Drago © vs Laredo Kid & Súper Fly and Damián 666 & Nicho el Millionario and Monsther Clown & Murder Clown [AAA TAG]

There’s no great reason for Aerostar & Drago so quick, unless AAA is determined to have rudo/rudo-ish challenges for Jack & Angelico whenever they return to challenge. There is, however, a balancing act going of trying to build up the people who aren’t in LU by having them get big wins. The Clowns don’t seem like they’re going to LA any time soon and have been a bit out in the cold with Psycho Clown moving up. They could end up with the belts to keep them going.

This week’s AAA TV is up. The show has a new graphics package starting this week. They also announced a 11/04 taping in Aguascalientes. 11/20 Juarez is already announced, so they’re just missing the December tapings to close the year.

CMLL posted photos of Dragon Lee in Ring of Honor. Dragon Lee defeated Bobby Fish in a non-title match on Saturday’s taping (which looked to be for week 3 of the set), so he’ll be owed a title shot at some other occasion.

El Grafico catches up with Sepultura, who says he’s been held in jail 13 years for a kidnapping he didn’t commit.

  1. Hey Cubs, did you see that Sho Tanaka/Raijin faced off against Kamatachi in a dark match? Wonder if they’re moving on from doing “nothing much” to ROH to do “nothing much”? Or maybe they just came with Dragon Lee to visit.

  2. I think they’re done in Mexico already. They haven’t been around in a couple months and they’ve been working small shows in the New Jersey area. (And I’m really disappointed they never got a big match if that’s it.)
