caveman is king of the air, Caristico can’t be in two places at once, CMLL/NJPW

CMLL (FRI) 09/30/2016 Arena México [CMLL, CultIcon, ESTO,thecubsfan]
1) Astral & Demus 3:16 b Shockercito & Último Dragóncito
11:58. Tecnicos took 1/3. Astral replaced Pierrothito
2) Lluvia, Sanely, Silueta b Dalys, Reyna Isis, Tiffany
16:26. Tecnicas took 1/3.
3) Bobby Z, Hechicero, Vangellys b Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa, Titán
17:11. Rudos took 2/3.
4) Johnny Idol, Marco Corleone, Máximo Sexy b Ephesto, Mephisto, Niebla Roja
12:17. Tecnicos took 2/3.
5) Euforia, La Máscara, Último Guerrero b Carístico, Mistico, Valiente
11:59. Rudos took 1/3.
6) Cavernario DQ Volador Jr. [Reyes del Aire]
20:20. Volador took fall 1, Cavernario the second, Cavernario tricked Volador into fouling Tirantes, Volador submitted Cavernario, and Tirantes awarded the match to Cavernario. Volador wanted a hair match, Cavernario agreed to a title match.

Main event had all the moves and was exciting near the end, but the finish came off badly (for the second straight week.) Next week’s title match should be good, though it’s hard to figure out what they’ve got left to top themselves. Attendance seemed better than usual, or at least more casual fans than usual based on the reactions.

The Ephesto/Idol feud was dropped. So sad.

Wrestling With Words also reviews the main event.

Dragon Lee beat Kamaitachi on ROH’s PPV last night, and he’ll face ROH TV champion Bobby Fish on the TV tapings. (It was immediately clear if it was a title match.)

ELITE (FRI) 09/30/2016 Gimnasio Benito Juárez, Cuautitlán, Estado de México
1) Hijo del Pantera & Mr. Leo b Luzbel & Tanque Infernal
2) Imposible & Peligro b Ciclón Ramírez Jr. & León Dorado Jr.
3) Decnnis, Mr. Águila, Zumbido b Emperador Azteca, Intocable, Toscano
Intocable said he’d rather be a rudo.
4) Xtreme Tiger DQ Cibernético [Liga Elite]
Cibernetico got himself DQed with a martiente. Cibernetico attacked the ref and explained he hoped the ref would be paralyzed for calling the DQ.
5) Rey Escorpión & Silver King b El Bandido & Golden Magic
Bandido replaced Caristico. Rudos won in straight falls.
6) Blue Demon DQ LA Park [Liga Elite]
LA Park was DQed by the commission. Bloody match.

Results seemed to drift off at the end; not sure if they held up the show in hope for Caristico to show up (he was doing post match interviews, so didn’t appear to be in a hurry) or if everyone just got bored. Main event sounds like LA Park doing his brawling match, and crowd was up from last week. Arena Neza is a tough place to draw. This week’s show will air tonight.

Bandido replacing Caristico is not a star of equal weight and stature, as much as we love Bandido. Weirdly, even though there seems to be a ban about some guys working both shows, Bandido is still being promoted as working on CMLL’s show tonight.

The rest of the Arena Coliseo show today has Valiente versus Ultimo Guerrero for Guerrero’s NWA middleweight championship. The preview claims Valiente is obsessed with winning this title. Someone has to be, because CMLL keeps on booking it. This is his third shot in a year, and it doesn’t seem any more likely to be a title change. The semimain is Atlantis, Maximo, Titan versus Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas. The rest of the show isn’t very promising.

AAA’s TV show airs an hour early today, at 4pm CT.

Lucha Memes said they were rebooking matches on their 10/23 show because CMLL had pulled wrestlers to work in NJPW instead. The only CMLL wrestler announced so far was Titan (to face Sammy Guevara), although it usually seems like most of the card is worked it well in advance (so their could be other people pulled.) The NJPW tour that fits is 10/21-11/05, and they’d probably announce the participants after their 10/10 show.

Publimetro writes about the recent Hija de Karonte/Panthro incident. Back on the 18th in Nuevo Leon, there was a mixed tag match between Panthro Sr. & Panthro Jr. vs Karonte & Hija de Karonte. (That’s a father/son team versus a father/daughter team.) Karonte was holding Panthro Sr. while Hija de Karonte was slapping him, and Panthro wasn’t selling all that much. Panthro got free, slapped Hija de Karonte, and Hija de Karonte collapsed right after. The report says she wasn’t knocked out but did faint. There was some conversation about this in Mexico (and on Facebook) the last week, about man/woman violence and if Panthro was being unprofessional.

+LuchaTV has an interview with the Apaches leading into Heroes Inmortales. I have a vague plan of doing an update tomorrow morning, when I’d actually preview that show.

Hijo del Santo’s column was about his recent match in Nuevo Laredo. The promoter said they were great.

3) Estrellita, Marcela, Princesa Sugehit vs Amapola, Dalys, Tiffany

Same deal with this title match as many of the recent ones: a title change would mess up the CMLL Universal math, but we’re also now into October and there’s not even a hint about that tournament coming so maybe it doesn’t matter. There’s 13 Fridays left this year.

Super Crazy was in Japan last night, and but is back on CMLL cards this week. Or at least he’s scheduled to be back. Women’s match being third is frustrating only because the restraints on the segunda match.
