CMLL (FRI) 09/23/2016 Arena México [CMLL, CultIcon, thecubsfan, Yahoo! Deportes]
1) Cancerbero & Raziel b Oro Jr. & Star Jr.
Rudos took 1/3, losing the middle fall only when they accidentally pulled off Star Jr.’s mask.
2) Puma, Tiger, Virus b Fuego, Pegasso, Soberano Jr.
Rudos took 2/3.
3) Ángel de Oro, Johnny Idol, Titán DQ Bobby Z, Ephesto, Hechicero
Ephesto fouled Angel de Oro.
4) Shocker, Terrible, Último Guerrero b Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Stuka Jr.
Rudos took 1/3.
5) Rush b Matt Taven
Matt Taven won fall 1 with his springboard enziguri, Rush took the second with his corner dropkick, and Rush finished Taven with the Rush Driver to end Taven’s tour in Mexico.
6) Bárbaro Cavernario & Volador Jr. b Negro Casas, Mistico, La Máscara, Dragón Lee, Máximo Sexy, Mephisto, Valiente, Euforia, Máscara Dorada, Dragón Rojo Jr. [Reyes del Aire]
Rudos versus tecnicos. Elimination order: Dragon Rojo (by Valiente), La Mascara (DQ for unmasking Dragon Lee), Mascara Dorada (Casas), Valiente (Euforia), Maximo (Mephisto), Negro Casas (Dragon Lee), Dragon Lee (Cavernario), Mistico (Cavernario), Mephisto (Volador) – leaving Volador & Cavernario to advance to next week’s final.

The show was good, with 3/5/6 being the standout matches. The main event was insane at times, but the ending was as flat as you can get (and the long three way portion before it didn’t make a lot of sense and felt like it went too long.)

The feed died for about five minutes during the main event. They kept flying around like crazy in the building. I wonder if NJPW World has the full version.

ELITE (FRI) 09/23/2016 Arena Neza [Kronosport, SuperLuchas]
1) Shaolin & Solaris b Mini Sharlie & Pequeño Warrior
2) Diamante (CMLL) & Imposible b Neza Kid & Rocky Lobo
Rocky Lobo was stretchered out.
3) El Hijo De Amo De Los 8 Angulos, Hijo de LA Park, Zumbi b Heddi Karaoui, Herodes Jr., Samoano
4) El Bandido, Golden Magic, Último Ninja b Hijo De Dos Caras, Karonte Jr., Magno (Chihuahua)
Rudos were positioning themselves as a new trio (Los 2 Karontes) even despite the loss.
5) Rey Escorpión DQ Cibernético [Liga Elite]
Upset (maybe with cheating.) Cibernetico wants a rematch, Escorpion wants a title match.
6) Carístico b Xtreme Tiger [Liga Elite]

This will air later tonight. Caristico/Tiger sounds worth going out of your way to watch. Attendance doesn’t look great. AAA’s the only promotion that’s done well in this building the last few years, and that’s usually only for a TV taping. No word where/when the next taping will be.

We’re headed to Tijuana for the Crash’s show (though most of the time will probably be spent sitting at the airport.) Main event is Alberto & Jeff Cobb vs Rush & La Mascara, in the first time ever Rush & Alberto will be in the match. The semimain is Mascara Dorada against an unlisted opponent. Mascara Dorada has said he’ll be there, and the match is going to be newsworthy whoever he faces. The rest of the card looks interesting as well. The Crash posted a livestream of their show as a surprise on their website last time; maybe check it again close to the 10pm CT start time.

CMLL has Diamante Azul, Valiente and Johnny Idol against Ultimo Guerrero, Gran Guerrero and Niebla Roja at Arena Coliseo tonight. The preview suggests they may pick up the Valiente/UG feud which was ignored last week.

Tiger will replace Sharlie Rockstar on Sunday’s Chairo 4 card. He faces Trauma II, and they’re still doing the rule where each man must win by a certain move. Trauma II will still has Lo Negro del Negro, and Tiger must win with la casita. Sharlie being off the show is a political issue that doesn’t direclty have to do with this promotion.

Murder Clown & Monster Clown are looking forward to their tag title shot next week.

Lineups

1) Shockercito & Último Dragóncito vs Demus 3:16 & Pierrothito
2) Lluvia, Sanely, Silueta vs Dalys, Reyna Isis, Tiffany
3) Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa, Titán vs Bobby Z, Hechicero, Vangellys

The final of Reyes del Aire, this time for sure.

Caristico worked Elite last night, CMLL next week. Different rules for him than anyone else.

CMLL appears to actually be doing a Johnny Idol/Ephesto feud? The hat at work. Tercera could be really good.

On this edition of the podcast, Rob and I talk somewhat drowsily about the 09/23 CMLL show, with Matt Taven & Reyes del Aire. Rob didn’t achieve his dream of being close enough to catch the dives, but was close enough to get the beer spilled on him. This is a quick one, around 30 minutes.

We’re heading to Tijuana in a few hours, and the final podcast of the trip will show up sometime late Sunday/early Monday.
