Sagrado finishes Panther

Recapped: 09/10/2016

What happened: Titan pinned Mephisto, aiming for a title match.

What was good: The semimain was good and the lightning match entertained me, though it’s possible I’ve gone mad.

I didn’t watch the third match, off a plan to only watch the second half and avoid Skandalo matches, but it looked like it was good.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s channel.

Match 4: The Panther vs Sagrado in a lightning match

Winner: Sagrado
Match Time: 6:54

Review: [good] I liked this match even though it’s probably not a good match by a normal definition. The story of the match is Blue Panther only has two moves and Sagrado is well aware of this fact. Sagrado avoided the dropkick on the first try (Panther seemed much confused that someone would’ve seen it coming after 1000 times), so Panther just spammed the only other move he knows and two tope. Had The Panther known a third move, any more at all, he might have won this match, but instead he went back for the springboard dropkick once again and Sagrado knew it and was ready for it. Sagrado dropped Panther on head for punishment for trying to get thru this match only using two moves. Right man won.

Review: [good] The new Blue Panther twist for the night is they did the double pinfall spot in the second fall, but one guy kicked out and one guy didn’t. That never happens, so I believed they actually just blew the kickout, but they just continued on naturally. The randomness of that, and the surprise Pólvora submission at all, at least makes this match stick out a little from others, even if you could argue the work stood out more in other matches. Polvora was better at that armbar than catching Esfinge on his dive. (Esfinge caught Dragon Rojo well. Maybe we’re all doing it wrong.) Tiger doing his Dragon Rojo impression on commentary was an added bonus. Dragon Rojo and Guerrero Maya make sure to do a heated sequence against each other in every match, but don’t seem to be going anywhere.

    • Mephisto Devil’s Wings Stuka Jr. (3:43)
    • Titan El Inmortal Mephisto (4:23)

Match Time: 11:37
Notes: Titan asked for a title shot at Mephisto, Mephisto refused to respond.

Review: [ok] standard solid and cloud pleasing main event, though lacking a bit in substance to make it worth recommending. This was the normal build up to a title match too, with Titan chasing after Mephisto all match and finally getting him in the end. Everyone else played their role fine, and the story was fine, this is just more a problem of there being so many matches a week and the bar of being worthwhile watch being pushed higher and higher. The title match they’re setting up should be fun, and they did smart things like make sure Titan wasn’t pinned and giving Mephsito some pinfall wins over his own leading up to it. Cavernario easily pinning Atlantis is weird to see.
