Recapped: 08/23/2016

What happened: Ultimo Guerrero fouled Volador and got away with a foul to set up a singles match between them.

What was good: The semimain was good, the rest was largely average or below.

Where can I watch it:  It’s on CMLL’s channel.

Match 1: Bengala & Leono vs Akuma & Artillero

  1. técnicos

Review: [below average] nothing happening, nothing happening very slowly at times. Moving on.

Match 2: Fantasy, Shockercito, Stukita vs Mercurio, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia
Arena México, 08/23/2016

  1. técnicos
    • Fantasy powerbomb Mercurio (5:49)
    • Stuka triple moonsault Pequeño Violencia (6:19)
  2. rudos
    • Mercurio leaping cradle Shockercito (3:25)
  3. técnicos
    • Shocerkcito reinera Pequeño Olímpico (4:54)

Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 14:38

Review: [ok] redeemed a bit by the ending sequence; it’d be largely a forgettable match up that point. Only Stukita & Mercurio seemed as if they were trying especially hard, but it was helped by Mercurio seemingly being 80% of the match. Stukita got to do more than usual, and a genuine dive at the end. Pequeño Violencia was barely in, which was preferred.

Match 3: Lluvia, Marcela, Princesa Sugehit vs Dalys, Tiffany, Zeuxis
Arena México, 08/23/2016

  1. tecnicas
    • Marcela headscissors cradle Dalys (5:28)
  2. rudas
    • Dalys scorpion Marcela (1:57)
  3. tecnicas
    • Marcela Michinoku Driver Tiffany (5:11)
    • Princesa Sugehit Mistica Zeuxis (5:20)

Winner: tecnicas (1/3)
Match Time: 12:45

Review: [ok] A normal women’s match. Zeuxis and Sugehit matched up a bit, but that issue was been tampered down. It felt more like they were going to do Marcela/Dalys again after the early falls, but it was just some ring time for everyone involved. Tiffany didn’t stick out badly, which is great, but they manuevered the finish so she is less and less involved.

Match 4: Stuka Jr. vs Ripper in a lightning match
Arena México, 08/23/2016

Winner: Stuka Jr.
Match Time: 5:10

Review: [ok] Ripper went for the top rope senton, missed, and Stuka splashed him for the win. That was that. They went pretty short ofr a lightning match, with a bunch of that times being spent on a couple dives. It never felt like they got going in a big way, but it wasn’t a total waste. I’d suggest watching the Stuka/Kamaitachi match instead.

Match 5: Blue Panther, Rey Cometa, Titán vs Bobby Z, Morphosis, Olímpico
Arena México, 08/23/2016

  1. rudos
    • Morphosis torito Rey Cometa (5:23)
    • Bobby Z dropkick Blue Panther (5:50)
  2. técnicos
    • Rey Cometa modified Skayde Special Olímpico (2:20)
    • Titan El Inmortal Morphosis (3:21)
  3. técnicos
    • Blue Panther wristlock Olímpico (4:05)
    • Rey Cometa frog splash Morphosis (5:05)

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 14:16

Review: [good] many times better than any other match so far. There was a lot better pace, a lot better action, and more creative finishes. It had a lot of the touches of a Blue Panther match. They rushed thru the first two falls but still felt like things happened. This was the first and only match with the big move pin break up, which is manufactured excitement but any sort of excitement. The older rudos weren’t exactly smooth, but the técnicos were flying around over the place to make up for it. No problme with this one.

Match 6: Máximo Sexy, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero
Arena México, 08/23/2016

  1. rudos
    • Euforia Euforica Special on Máximo (4:56)
    • Niebla Roja Furia Roja on Valiente (4:56)
  2. rudos
    • DQ Ultimo Guerrero [faked foul] (3:24)

Winner: rudos (1/2)
Match Time: 8:20
Notes: Ultimo Guerrero “accidentally” collided with Tirantes on a superkick, fouled Volador, faked being fouled, and got the win. Volador challenged him to a singles match. UG noted they’d done this match elsewhere, but accepted for Arena Mexico.

Review: [OK] This was really quick, just something to explain why they were doing Volador/UG next week. They made as much of the time as they could, but it was a little underwhelming. The best part of the presentation was Ultimo Guerrero’s dedicated to selling his non-existent foul in the post match promos. (The worst part was Tirantes, as always.)
