Elgin treats UG like UG treats the rest of the world
Elgin treats UG like UG treats the rest of the world

Recapped: 07/11/2016

What happened: CMLL offered a show after the fact as a $1 VOD, to the surprise of all. I only paid a lot of attention to the main event and the rookie debuts. Ultimo Guerrero defeated Michael Elgin in a non title match.

What was good: Elgin/UG was very good. Could skip the rest, though the Stuka trios seemed fine.

Where can I watch it: It’s still on CMLL’s channel for $1.

Announcers for this show are Juan Carlos Castellenos, Roberto Lopez Olvierda. Jose Manuel Guillen joins them during the fourth match. It’s treated like a normal streaming show, with the exception of the old stand up introduction at the beginning of the being brought back.

Review: [ok] only interesting for the new guys – I could go for never seeing another Skandalo match as long as I live – but the new guys weren’t so interesting as to require you to watch. There’s no standout here, just a few a little worse than others. Maquiavelo either wasn’t worried about making a good first impression or wasn’t able to make one. He didn’t look good on offense, didn’t work well with Flyer’s moves, and didn’t standout in anyway. Templario moved around well, though looked limited compared to how he’s come off elsewhere. Forastero sold well, though comes off as a secondary version of his cousins.

  2. Michael Elgin Falcon Arrow (2:56)

Match Time: 13:12
Notes: Elgin went for his powerbomb in the first fall, but UG took him down instead and held him down for three. Elgin calls Ultimo Guerrero is the best wrestler he’s ever fought, while UG says Elgin is the best of the foreigners

Review: [great] Really good big man fight, as Ultimo Guerrero again has his best match when he’s a beaten up underdog. Elgin took about 70& of the match, destroying UG, UG didn’t even have a chance to work at his checklist, and it was still all good. Elgin broke out a dive and a top rope twisting senton in between clubbering UG around, which the idea being UG was just enough skilled enough to pull out two falls. The first fall was a bit silly, UG winning a fall with a takedown, but it Elgin came off like a monster. Elgin worked more heelish than he has elsewhere on this tour early, but really more impressed with his power moves, and his catch of UG’s barricade dive looked awesome (and is a great revenge for all those times UG’s done the same to others.) I would’ve liked the match to go longer, but it was worth the entire price of the YouTube rental
