CMLL Puebla: 2016-07-18

Volador gets a seat
Volador gets a seat

Recapped: 07/18/2016

What happened: Negro Casas & Shocker kept the tag titles. Rush no-showed his match, but it set up a Volador/Ultimo Guerrero singles match anyway. King Jaguar & Black Tiger versus Disturbio & Arez with the losing team losing a hair and a mask seemed to be set up for next week (though it was hard to hear exactly what was the stipulation.

What was good: Nothing, this was a disappointing show with no redeemable matches. Skip.

Where can I watch it:  It’s on CMLL’s YouTube

Match 1: Arkalis, Meyer, Rey Samuray vs El Heredero, El Malayo, Hijo del Signo
Arena Puebla, 07/18/2016

  1. tecnicos
    • Arkalis top rope nguillotine legdrop Hijo de signo (9:03)
  2. rudos
    • Heredero slingshost senton Arkalis (4:26)
    • Malayo scorpion Rey Samuray (4:44)
  3. rudos
    • Hijo del Signo nudo signo Arkalis (4:48)

Winner: rudos (2/3)
Match Time: 18:35

Review: [below average] a largely boring match, with the everyone working at Hijo del Signo’s level. Heredero did not impress in his debut, having trouble falling out of the ring in his first exchange and not doing much more than that. Arkalis looked off, and Rey Samurai slipped doing some of his fancy moves. They got a lot of time and didn’t do a lot with it.

Match 2: Black Tiger & King Jaguar vs Ares & Disturbio
Arena Puebla, 07/18/2016

  1. Disturbio & Ares
    • Disturbio double knee smash Black Tiger (2:44)
    • Ares top rope splash King Jaguar (3:11)
  2. Disturbio & Ares
    • Ares mask pull Black Tiger (5:34)
    • Disturbio foul King Jaguar (5:39)

Winner: Disturbio & Ares (1/2)
Match Time: 8:50

Review: [ok] Disturbio and Ares came out with good fire at the beginning, and then it just kept going, and then it ended. The rudos controlled most of the match without doing a lot with it, and the técnicos just feel técnicos because some one had to be. This really isn’t exciting for the match they’re setting up, but they’re setting it up strongly.

Match 3: Lluvia & Reyna Isis vs Dalys & Zeuxis
Arena Puebla, 07/18/2016

  1. tecnicas
    • Lluvia reverse Boston crab Dalys (4:08)
    • Isis cross legged tapatia Zeuxis (4:08)
  2. rudas
    • Zeuxis corner double knee smash Reina Isis (1:43)
    • Dalys hanging double knee smash Lluvia (2:04)
  3. rudas
    • Zeuxis la Roca Reina Isis (2:19)
    • Dalys powerbomb Lluvia (2:19)

Winner: rudas (2/3)
Match Time: 8:31
Notes: Isis moved to the tecnica side with both Estrellita & Vaquerita missing.

Review: [ok] lack in technical ability, but at least made up in energy. Isis did not adapt particularly well to the técnico side. The best parts of the match were the rudas destroying the tecnicas, and Isis was good for that part. They gave this the right amount of time.

Match 4: Máximo Sexy, Stigma, Valiente vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Rey Escorpión, Skándalo
Arena Puebla, 07/18/2016

  1. técnicos
    • Stigma springboard huracanrana Rey Escorpión (4:49)
  2. rudos
    • Dragon Rojo corner low blow dropkick Máximo (2:47)
  3. rudos
    • Skandalo Driver on Valiente (1:49)
    • Stigma inside cradle Skandlao (1:59)
    • Dragon Rojo Jr. Styles Clash (2:28)

Winner: rudos (2/3)
Match Time: 10:04
Notes: Máximo insisted on fighting (and pinning) Dragon Rojo at the end, having lost track of how many people had been eliminated. Rematches and challenges followed.

Review: [below average] less than a regular midcard match, with low blows and kissing for everyone. Crowd got into it, and Valiente got his mask ripped up for some reason, but it didn’t stick out at all for me. Stigma, in new gear, looked very rusty back from his recent absence. His timing and moves were off, even with working with a solid guy like Escorpión. He did save himself a bit with the dive at the end, but came right back in and struggled with with all the spots in the ring. Maybe it was nerves, it was just not any good. Losing track of who was less in the match and the challenges after made this come off as minor league.

Match 5: Atlantis & Último Guerrero vs Marco Corleone & Volador Jr. in a relevos increíbles match
Arena Puebla, 07/18/2016

  1. Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero
    • Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero double suplex Marco Corleone (1:58)
    • Atlantida on Volador (2:25)
  2. Marco Corleone & Volador Jr.
    • Marco Air Corleone Atlantis (1:25)
    • COR Ultimo Guerrero & Volador (1:40)
  3. Marco Corleone & Volador Jr.
    • DQ Ultimo Guerrero [foul Volador] (5:07)

Winner: Marco Corleone & Volador Jr. (2/3)
Match Time: 9:12
Notes: Marco replaced Rush with no explanation. Ultimo Guerrero claimed his foul was not a foul, but no one was buying it. Volador challenged UG to a singles match today, which of course didn’t happen.

Review: [ok] suffered from being the match I didn’t want to see. Marco was fine and entertained the crowd, but he was not Rush. The Volador/UG sections of the final fall were well worked, and Atlantis/Marco handled the size disparity without a problem. They really sped thru the first two falls and had a cheap ending, so this is no masterpiece I’m disregarding, but it’s not one I was eager to see after they changed the teams.

Match 6: Negro Casas & Shocker © vs La Máscara & Sharlie Rockstar for the CMLL World Tag Team Championship
Arena Puebla, 07/18/2016

  1. La Mascara & Sharlie Rockster
    • La Mascara double knee smash Shocker (4:24)
    • Sharlie Rockstar La Poza Negro Casas (4:50)
  2. Negro Casas & Shocker
    • Negro Casas casita Sharlie Rockstar (2:46)
    • Shocker casita La Mascara (2:46)
  3. Negro Casas & Shocker
    • Negro Casas casita La Mascara (5:34)
    • Shocker Villano cradle Sharlie Rockstar (5:34)

Winner: Negro Casas & Shocker
Match Time: 13:10

Review: [ok] lacking in the energy, intensity or interest of a big title match, this was just the fourth 2v2 match of the night. (Crowd even cleared out a little bit, seeing the previous match as the real main event.) They worked about as good as you’d think they would based on the names, but they didn’t deliver anything memorable at all. It’s hard to believe Mascara and Casas are main eventing this Friday and Mascara is the lead rudo for the Anniversary show, he definitely didn’t feel that hot in this.
