AAA TV (SUN) 07/17/2016 Pista Los Laureles, Oaxaca, Oaxaca [AAA]
1) Big Mami, Dinastía, Pimpinela Escarlata b Lady Shani, Mamba, Mini Psycho Clown
Mami got the win. Likely a dark/YouTube match.
2) Herodes Jr., Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Mocho Cota Jr. b Argenis, Atomic Boy, Bengala
Atomic Boy replaced Suicide.
3) Daga & Súper Fly b Aerostar & Australian Suicide
Australian Suicide replaced Garza Jr. (double booked in Reynosa), which allowed Daga to walk off with his mask again.
4) Angélico & Jack Evans b Averno & Chessman © and Monsther Clown & Murder Clown [AAA TAG]
Averno & Chessman fall on their 4th defense, as Jack & Angelico win the titles back in their first challenge after vacating them due to Angelico’s injury. Mary Apache distracted Averno, setting up the Angelico crucifix powerbomb/630 splash
5) Brian Cage, El Mesías, Hernandez b Dr. Wagner Jr., La Parka, Psycho Clown
Wagner, Parka and Clown earlier agreed to work together to face the threat of Team Trump. Team Trump threatened them. The Mexico alliance wasn’t enough, Team Trump took the main event.

Air Date: 08/06.

Psycho Clown’s recent AAA TV record

LOSS 04/18 Leon
WIN! 04/29 Xalapa (but by countout due to Perros interference)
LOSS 05/14 Orizaba
LOSS 05/31 Pachuca
LOSS 06/16 Naucalpan
LOSS 07/03 Ecatepec
LOSS 07/08 Mexico City
LOSS 07/17 Oaxaca

This is a cheat; the Lucha World Cup stuff is removed, and Psycho Clown picked up a few wins on there. And I’m not sure this is a terrible thing; AAA viewers are trained to only pay attention to the main shows as meaningful outcomes and only the most obsessive people will remember that match in Arena Aficion, for instance. Pagano will probably beat Psycho Clown one more time in Toluca, and that’s probably the right call. It’s just definitely a predictable thing, AAA’s become very routine about the lead tecnicos losing all their matches to their big show rival before getting that win on the big show (or not.)

Mary Apache came all the way to Oaxaca (5-6 hour bus trip each way) just to walk to the ring for a minute or so. It worked, so I guess it wasn’t a completely wasted trip. Averno & Chessman as tag team champions is definitely arguable as a wasted trip, since we’re back to the people who could’ve just stayed champion (just as Fantasma did thru injury) and all we got out of it was Argenis & Australian Suicide not winning the title repeatedly in matches with awful finishes. I’d think AAA would argue they couldn’t have gotten to Chessman/Avenro vs Faby/Mary without the tag titles, and that still seems like it has a good chance of happening at TripleMania. (The original reason the Apaches wanted to face Chessman & Averno was to get the tag titles, and the Apaches should be bugging Jack & Angelico now, but I’m guessing that’s not the way it’s going.)

Would the Mexico City commission have allowed AAA to do a men versus women tag title match? I guess it doesn’t matter now, but it may be a factor in why they made the change before TripleMania rather after. Jack & Angelico are facing a mystery team in Toluca, which may indicate their TripleMania program. Otherwise, we know just about as much about that card as we did before this taping. All the announcements are going to come on Twitter or mentioned on TV, it seems.

AAA “show opening segment where the people in the main event talk” to the list of WWE tropes AAA’s borrowing lately. There’s new patterns, but they’re definitely patterns.

Garza Jr. probably main evented small Arena Coliseo Reynosa instead. That’s probably the better choice for him (and “choice” may be overstating it, he may have taken that one first), but it’s weird working a small arena in Reynosa is the better choice than appearing on AAA TV – though he really doesn’t have much of a role here.

Next taping is that 07/29 Toluca show, a week from this Friday, the last to air on TV prior to TripleMania.
