This hasn’t made it to CMLL’s site, but worth nothing for the title defense.

Order of elimination Triton (Cavernario), Virus (Titan), Panther (Ripper), Ripper (Maya), Titan (Mephisto), Maya (Mistico), Mephisto (Mascara), Cavernario (Dragon Lee), Volador & Mistico (Mascara getting both at the same time), Dragon Lee (DQ when Rush ran in to attack Mascara, though Lee was about to be beat anyway.) La Mascara faces Negro Casas next week. Lee said he didn’t want the help and challenged Mascara to a mask match. Mascara said no and unmasked Lee.
5) Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero b Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Rush
6:59. Guerreros took 1/3. UG fouled Rush.

The Leyenda de Plata is worth seeking out and the second match is pretty good too. Last night, I felt pretty sure they were going with Dragon Lee/La Mascara. After a night of sleeping on it and reading this morning, I’m back to not being sure. La Mascara could end up fighting anyone at this point. They seemed to be setting up something with Super Crazy and Rey Bucanero as well.

La Mascara told the press he wants Rush or Pierroth, and doesn’t have time for the little kids Mistico & Dragon Lee. Imagine a man who would rather fight Pierroth over Dragon Lee.

DTU (FRI) 07/15/2016 Arena Neza [+LuchaTV, DTU, KronoSport]

Second defense since winning the title back in Germany.
7) Pesadilla & Rocky Lobo b Stuka Jr. & Tritón (CMLL) © and Dr. Cerebro & Motocross [DTU NEXO]
Titles were declared vacant because Titan was not there to defend. Stuka replaced him. The DTU team won the titles. The Neza team of Cerebro/Motocross were the first out.
8) Aeroboy b Cíclope [Copa Ultraviolentia Promocciones Sanchez, TLC]
good match
9) Sharlie Rockstar © b Ovett, Psicosis II, Crazy Boy, Paranoiko, Ángel o Demonio [cage, DTU Consgrado]
Sharlie Rockstar retained the title

So, Titan really didn’t work the show – but Stuka, hours from making his debut in ROH, worked twice instead. Attendance looks OK for this sort of show.

Mascara Dorada has signed with WWE, according a report by the PWTorch. It’s part of a larger report stating Ibushi has also signed, and others are being considered. There’s no indication of a start date. Dorada has announced bookings thru the 28th in Mexico; it’s rare to get lineups announced much farther than that, so he might be actually be booked out longer than that, and WWE has recently preferred incoming wrestlers finish out their agreed upon matches elsewhere before coming in.  Currently, Dorada’s only known main CMLL date is this Tuesday in Guadalajara, but it’s possible he might have a few more.

Dorada has consistently said he’d inform CMLL (and then the press) should he be offered a deal. Since the most recent CWC tapings happened on Thursday, he probably indicated he’d sign with WWE at that point. It’s not a big surprise; in retrospect, Dorada losing the welterweight championship in March was probably because they saw this as a strong possibility even back then. Dorada only returned to CMLL in February, which means there were only a few weeks where he was back in CMLL full time before he got the intital WWE offer. It’s hard to fairly blame CMLL for not using him strongly in this stint, though

It was obvious Dorada was going to stand out on WWE programming, it was always only going to be a matter of WWE deciding he would fit their style. They’re much more open to things than they’ve been in the past, and Dorada may not have to change a lot right away. Like Sombra, one of Dorada’s biggest adjustments will be needing to learn English.  They’re letting him do promos in Spanish on the CWC, but that’ll eventually change.

Tonight’s CMLL show is the Arena Coliseo Arkangel 30th Anniversary show. Because it’s CMLL, Arkangel will be in the semimain on the show. The actual main event is a random match between Super Porky, Diamante Azul, Maximo agsint Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero and Barbaro Cavernario. Arkangel himself teams with Ephesto & Luciferno against Gallo, Starman and Pegasso, with the dormant Arkangel/Gallo rivarly being emphasized in the preview. The undercard is full of former and current Arkangel students, including a battle royal honoring deceased luchador Dr. X.

Arkangel talked to Fuego en el Ring about his career. There’s nothing must see on this show, but it feels like a show that might do decently on the #1 rental side for the novelty.

Sunday has the Mascara 2000/Mr. Electro hair match in IWRG and the Lucha Memes show in Coacalco.  Rush versus Caifan is the main event of that nice looking show, and then he’s flying to Monterrey to headline there as well later the same night.

AAA officially announced Pagano vs Psycho Clown in a hair/mask match at the first match for TripleMania. This match was known for a couple weeks, since Leo Riano revealed it in his column, and AAA’s been building to it since the taping in Pachuca. They fight one more time at the Toluca card in a bull terrier match (which just got announced, or I completely blanked on it.)

AAA’s posted the open for today’s TV show. Matches airing today:

  • Argenis & Australian Suicide vs Daga & Joe Lider
  • Fénix vs Drago vs Aerostar [#1, AAA CRUISER]
  • Brian Cage vs Texano Jr. vs Dr. Wagner Jr.

Stuka debuts tonight in ROH against Kamaitachi. It’s a TV taping, so it’ll turn up eventually.

Lucha Underground has posted their Season 2 recap video. True fact: At Ultima Lucha 3, I leaned how to tell time by figuring out how far they were in the Season 2 recap review. Dario also has a State of the Union address leading into Ultima Lucha.

Sexy Star has posted a farewell to the Sexy Star character message on her Facebook. Slightly interesting is the opening paragraph being about how people paid her to cover her face with a mask, while she’s always talked about how she wanted to wear a mask in prior interviews.

Teddy Hart said things.

DTU/Lucha Libre Boom on 08/13 in Arena Lopez Matoes

2: Ovett & Angel o Demonio vs Misterioso & Pierroth vs Carta Brava & Fantasma de la Opera
3: Sadico & Mike Suicida vs Ronnie Mendoza & Draztick Boy vs Arez & Belial

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 07/22/2016 Arena México
1) Robin & Sensei vs Artillero & Cholo
2) Astral, Eléctrico, Último Dragóncito vs Demus 3:16, Mercurio, Pierrothito
3) Rey Bucanero, Shocker, Terrible vs Golden Magic, Sharlie Rockstar, Súper Crazy
4) Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Stuka Jr. vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
5) Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero
6) Negro Casas vs La Máscara [Leyenda de Plata]

La Mascara is Negro Casas’ biggest test yet. None of the Munoz are booked, though they may check out the match anyway.

Both trios champions are together on the show: Sky Team in the semimain, Hijos del Infierno in fourth.

Third match is billed as CMLL versus the Elite, and is Golden Magic’s Friday night debut. TGR’s role appears to be “rudos who feud with other rudos.” Bucanero is still NWA Light Heavyweight champion, so it’s possible he and Crazy could be setting up a match for that.

Recapped: 07/15/2016

What happened: La Mascara won the first stage of the Leyenda de Plata when Rush ran into attack him (to prevent him from beating Dragon Lee, who was about to be beat.) Dragon Lee challenged Mascara to a mask match. UG snuck in a foul on Rush in the main event.

What was good: I really liked the Leyenda de Plata and the second match was good too. The opener was awful.

Where can I watch it:  The main event is on Claro’s site. Read More
