Recapped: 05/30/2016

What happened: Astral retained his title over Saurón. Carístico & Negro Casas defeated Mephisto & Mascara Dorada in the main event, which seemed to set up a Carístico/Dorada match next week. Boby Z fouled Triton, which set up a trios rematch.

What was good: A lot of stuff that was borderline at best, or very good for two minutes but didn’t hold up for the whole match.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s channel.

Match 1: Black Tiger & Meyer vs Ares & Fuerza Chicana
Arena Puebla, 05/30/2016

  1. técnicos
    • Meyer shoulder splash Arez (4:34)
    • Black Tiger moonsault Fuerza Chicana (4:53)
  2. rudos
    • Arez plancha Black Tiger (3:22)
    • Fuerza Chicana frontcracker Meyer (3:48)
  3. técnicos
    • Meyer senton Fuerza Chicana (5:05)
    • Arez legs crossed bent over armbar (5:16)
    • Black Tiger espectrina Fuerza Chicana (6:05)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:46

Review: [ok] Usual simple Black Tiger opener. A few easy things are done, nothing much is memorable, but nothing is too bad either. Fuerza Chicana’s one spear was the highlight of a match without a lot memorable too it. Black Tiger has neat holds he only pull out at the end, and it’d be more interesting if they could fit that in the rest of the way.

Match 2: La Vaquerita, Lluvia, Princesa Sugehit vs La Comandante, Tiffany, Zeuxis
Arena Puebla, 05/30/2016

  1. tecnicas
    • Vaquerita top rope elbow drop Zeuxis (6:27)
  2. rudas
    • Tiffany short powerbomb Vaquerita (2:23)
    • Zeuxis running corner double knee smash Princesa Sugehit (3:13)
  3. rudas
    • Tiffany senton Lluvia (4:30)
    • La Comandante chokeslam Vaquerita (5:49)

Winner: rudas (2-1)
Match Time: 15:29

Review: [below average] Not super watchable. There were times they got utterly lost in this, and it over all became less interesting as they went along. Vaquerita and Zeuxis are a good match, in that Zeuxis hits Vaquerita really hard and Vaquerita is able to continue. Vaquerita got dropped just as hard on the chokeslam at the end.

Match 3: Astral © vs Saurón for the CMLL World Pequeño Estrellas Championship
Arena Puebla, 05/30/2016

  1. Saurón el puplo (3:17)
  2. Astral kneeling tirabuzon (4:49)
  3. Astral springboard Skayde Special combo (4:46_

Winner: Astral (2-1)
Match Time: 12:52
Notes: Seconds were Ares and Asturiano

Review: [ok] not much. Saurón tried very hard, but ran out of gas during the second fall and was moving and very slowly in the third fall. There was a fairly obvious blown spot in the third fall that was just Sauron’s brain freezing up, and it was all he could do to move into the right spot to take the next Astral move after that point. Sauron’s one big near fall was messed up by the pin being too close to the ropes, but the crowd didn’t buy into the following pinfall, or much of this match at all. Astral’s not nearly good enough to make this work on it’s own, and it was a pretty by the numbers title defense.

Match 4: Esfinge, Stigma, Tritón vs Bobby Z, Puma, Tiger
Arena Puebla, 05/30/2016

  1. rudos
    • Mouse Trap on Esfinge (5:08)
  2. técnicos
    • Stigma Stigmatica Tiger (3:15)
  3. técnicos
    • DQ Bobby Z [foul Triton] (4:06)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:29
Notes: Triton landed hard on a second fall tope con giro, and was seemed to suffer a back injury. He was slowed the rest of the way, but finished the match. Bobby fouled Triton and then unmasked him. Tecnicos demanded a rematch next week.

Review: [good] The two minutes leading into the first fall finish was a really entertaining high speed sequence which couldn’t be done with many other rudo units and carried the match for me. The rest of the match wasn’t at that same level, but it was still solid. The nonsense finish wasn’t great, but at least we get another week of this rudos team. Triton’s a little too fast for the rest of his team, who were a step behind him on all the big team spots – maybe less of that next week.

Match 5: Ángel de Oro, Máximo Sexy, Valiente vs La Máscara, Shocker, Último Guerrero
Arena Puebla, 05/30/2016

    • La Mascara heel kick Angel de Oro (4:31)
    • La Mascara double knee smash Valiente (4:31)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:33

Review: [below average] totally mailed in match, guys going thru the motion and doing the minimal spots they do every time. Shocker & La Mascara have no particular chemistry for a soon to be team. There are worse excuted matches but this one was just not there.

Match 6: Carístico & Negro Casas vs Máscara Dorada & Mephisto in a relevos increíbles match
Arena Puebla, 05/30/2016

  1. Team Caristico
    • Negro Casas scorpion Mephisto (1:56)
    • Carístico crab Mascara Dorada (2:01)
  2. Team Dorada
    • Mascara Dorada casita Negro Casas (2:25)
    • Mephisto Devil’s Wings Carístico (2:25)
  3. Team Caristico
    • Carístico La Mistica Mephisto (4:53)
    • COR Macara Dorada (5:13)

Winner: Team Carístico (2-1)
Match Time: 9:39
Notes: Dorada seemed to suffer a knee injury in the first fall, but recovered and was fine by the third fall. In a lengthy back and forth, Carístico demanded a shot at Mephisto’s welterweight title next week. Mephisto was not definite about accepting it, but got Carístico to agree to put up his mask should be lose.

Review: [ok] Looked like it was going to be a complete disappointment when Dorada went down in the first fall, and they spent a lot of the second fall covering for it. He looked 100% fine in the third fall, and we got a taste of what an all out match between the two teams could look like, but only that taste – the third fall wasn’t enough. I feel like I’m settling for stretches of good matches rather than entire good matches.
