AAA on Televisa: 2016-05-07

Recapped: 05/22/2016

What happened: Not much? Some Lucha World Cup announcements were made. La Frontera won their debut. Xinetez were dominant over their opponents. This turned out to be Octagon Jr.’s farewell match, and understandably so.

What was good: The women’s tag was entertaining.

Where can I watch it: It’s on AAA’s channel

Previously: Apache attacked Ludxor. Suicide & Argenis won a title shot. Daga beat up Suicide. Nicho, Pagano, and Damian beat up Daga & Lider. Wagner & Parka could not beat Team Trump. Texano didn’t do much better.

Interviews with Faby Apache, Mary Apache and their children air during their show.

Match 1: Faby Apache & Mary Apache vs La Hiedra & Lady Shani

Winner: Apaches (Mary Michinoku Driver Hiedra)
Match Time: 10:14

Review: [good] One of the better AAA TV matches in a while. The Apaches hit very hard, and the rudas survived barely before getting beat. Shani & Hiedra can keep up with the Apaches and showed some good offense in the early portions of the match. There’s no reason to believe they’d win, they never do, but they looked sharp even to see competitive, and then the Apaches looked destructive enough in destroying them. I’d like to see this match more often, though I’m not sure everyone would stay in one piece.

Match 2: Aerostar, Drago, Octagón Jr. vs Dark Cuervo, Dark Scoria, Zorro
Domo de la Feria, León, Guanajuato, 04/18/2016
Video:
luchalibreaaatvthecubsfan

Winner: Xinetez (Zorro Buca Storm Zorro)
Match Time: 9:29
Notes: The Xinetez attack the técnicos with chairs from the start, with Hijo del Tirantes being so appalled about the attack to Drago’s left arm that he stops them and helps Drago get out of the ring for medical attention. (Drago is out so quick, it comes off like it was a cover to get him out of the match.) Aerostar needs medical attention after the finish.

Review: [ok] Just a one sided destruction by the Xinetez with the técnicos getting a little bit at the end, which is weird when essentially this same trio is getting a title match on the next show. (There doesn’t seem to be any long term plan ere.) The one sided domination didn’t do the técnicos any favors, and didn’t help the match either. They went way too long – seven minutes – without giving the técnicos anything. It’s better if you give the técnicos some hope, or you’re making it easy to tune out. Octagon Jr. looked good in this match when he had a chance, but again wasn’t used in any different way than he would’ve been as Flamita. Maybe he would’ve taken the pin, but he wasn’t treated as any sort of star. AAA shot the first double dive spot horribly live, but did get it better on the replay.

Noti AAA

  • Mother’s Day talk about Faby & Mary

  • AAA has a new website

  • Fenix versus Pentagon can be seen on AAA’s website

  • Dorian Roldan talks about the Lucha World Cup. There are some announcements, but I’m so far behind that they’re old news.

Match 3: Monsther Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Damián 666, Nicho el Millionario, Pagano
Domo de la Feria, León, Guanajuato, 04/18/2016
Video:
thecubsfanluchalibreaaatv

Winner: La Frontera (Pagano Air Raid Crash Psycho Clown)
Match Time: 7:31

Review: [ok] A brawl, and not a compelling one. I felt like I had to kept seeing people talking weird bumps and had to rewind to figure out what was supposed to have occurred. The booking sort of made sense, except there’s two other clowns on that team they could’ve booked and instead AAA TV ends with Psycho Clown looking dumb. Maybe they’re going for some sort of streak. Damian is not moving well. Someone (Villano?) really likes the dive thru a table on the outside spot, because it’s getting done on every single taping. A stretcher spot at the finish is a bit repetitive following the same bit being done in another show – they really should’ve had these last two matches air on different weeks if they wanted a stronger impact.
