lucha TV preview for weekend of May 21th

TEIOJOy[1]

AAA and ELITE are pretty safe bets, since they’re both the second half of tapings. The trios match on Elite is a really good sounding match that we probably wouldn’t have gotten to see either. The AAA show is heavy on the Perros/Fronterazos feud.

The Puebla main event not having the Ingobernables and still being a relevos incredibles match is pretty annoying. Other matches on that card look fine.

There’s no lineup for next CMLL Tuesday yet. I dunno.

“Los Luchadores”, AAA taping date change, Konnan/Dorian

needed a GIF, this is a good GIF

Pedro Ocadiz, the composer of the song “Los Luchadores”, passed away. If you’ve heard a lucha libre song, you’ve probably heard that one: “El Santo, Cavernario, Blue Demon, el Bulldog” is the lyric from the chorus, and it’s go to song for any news feature lucha libre in Mexico. SuperLuchas reprinted an interview with him from a few years ago; he mentions he didn’t know “Bulldog” was the name of an actual luchador when he put him in the song, he just needed a word that fit.

AAA announced the Pachuca taping would be moving two days later, from Sunday at the bull ring to Tuesday at Arena Aficion. There was a AAA spot show advertised for that day already, so maybe this is some deal to replace that. AAA hasn’t taped in Arena Aficion since the early 2000s, and it might be the smallest venue they’ll run for TV in a long time. It seems a little bit smaller than Arena Naucalpan.

They’re also now listing Mesias in the luchador surprise spot, teaming with fellow Team Trump member Hernandez against Dr. Wagner & Texano Jr.

In that same arena on Tuesday, Canek defeated Mr. Jack for the IWL Heavyweight Championship. The idea is it’s El Fantasma’s title, but he was too busy in his job of Mexico City lucha libre commissioner to remain champion. (He was on the show; he could’ve easily defended it and lost in the main event.)

Yesterday’s Lucha World Cup was adding Lady Apache to Mexican Women’s Team. They also announced both shows would air on Samurai TV in Japan on June 19th. The first round is listed as a two hour slot. Still no official word on it airing in Mexico or the US.

Meanwhile, Sexy Star said she’s not part of the Lucha World Cup and not to ask her why because she doesn’t know. I think we can all come up with reasons AAA may not want to use her but, to be be fair, she’s usually used anyway.

On Tuesday’s MLW Radio show, Konnan talked about Dorian near the end. As SuperLuchas put it, Konnan called Dorian incompetent, talking mostly about Dorian being first years on the job. Konnan said he’d find Dorian playing Mafia Wars or Candy Crush instead of taking his job seriously, or leaving the office to catch a movie. Konnan blamed Dorian for the terrible deal with Lucha Libre USA, including the money AAA had to pay to finally get out of it, and for putting out the DVD wiht Hijo del Santo – Konnan’s bigger point was that Dorian would’ve been fired long ago if he wasn’t a family member. Konnan claimed he wasn’t bitter about leaving AAA.

(Konnan’s case about Dorian being immature would’ve been slightly stronger if he didn’t take a bong hit during the podcast which some how caused him to disappear for about 10 minutes.)

The WON mentions Court Bauer says he was not forced to choose between MLW/Konnan and AAA/LU. (He also said it himself on his podcast on Friday.) He says it did come up, but they had negotiated around it – Konnan going silent on the rare times they’d talk about AAA/LU in recent months – and it wasn’t the reason Bauer left. Bauer’s been hinting about a WWE/NXT deal this weekend on Twitter.

This week’s CMLL Informa mentioned Diamante Azul has not yet returned from France and would be back next week instead. I’m guessing they meant on Informa itself, and he’d still be back for his matches this weekend (there’s got to be more than one flight a week from France to Mexico), but he may be replaced. The hosts also calmed down concerns about Arena Coliseo, saying CMLL would be back running Sabado Retros next week.

A CMLL recap of the breakup of the Ingobernables has La Mascara pointing out he always had always went against his family in the Ingobernables but Rush wasn’t willing to do the same. More interesting, the recap explains people hate Comandante Pierroth because they see only Norberto Salgado as the only real Pierroth (as if this new guy’s gimmick is officially being a Fake Pierroth, which definitely wasn’t the way it started.) Meanwhile, Rush & Pierroth talk about how no one’s tough like in the old days.

The WON mentions Dragon Lee is not expected in NJPW’s Super J tournament – that’s the two night tournament being held in July and August, not the one Volador is in starting this week. My impression has been other people are being looked at being used as CMLL’s representative.

Sagrado & Misterioso are unhappy Pierroth called them lazy and out of shape, and want to go after his mask. That’s probably not happening. In the same vein, Rey Escorpion on Informa said he was unimpressed with Dragon Rojo & Polvora; he’s probably the third Ingobernable with Rush & Pierroth.

Silver King, who promotes in Torreon, announced he’s going to run a Copa Junior Elite. It’s the Elite name and same weekly league format, but they’re doing 2 points for a win like the Japanese leagues Silver King has been in. He’s splitting it into two groups. Group A has Hijo del Ninja, Silver King, Hijo de LA Park, Hijo de Fishman, Gran Kalifa Jr., Halcon Suriano Jr. and Stukita. Group B has Shocker, Dr. Wagner Jr., Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., Hijo del Espectro Jr., Hijo de Dos Caras, Hijo del Medico Asesino, Antrax Jr. It’s all the problems of the Elite tournament plus putting AAA & CMLL guys against each other plus doing it Torreon where many of those guys don’t live. And, it’s Torreon, where no one writes about results of shows, so it’d be tough to get over the concept even if everything else worked out. (It’ll probably not come up again.) They’re hoping for the final in September.

Leo Riano says Hijo del Fantasma’s injury was a fractured vertebra and a herniated disk. He’s due back in a month. He would’ve had a hard time getting into WWE with those injuries.

LigerFever translated Hechicero’s appearance on Divinas de la Lucha in five parts: one two three four five (or all in one part)

Segunda Caida reviews Rush versus Negro Casas from Elite.

Eric reviews last night’s Lucha Underground.

LuchaWorld has the latest news update.

Aerostar was announced for AAW’s show on June 17th. That’s the same one with Drago/Chris Hero, and I’m betting they have a good opponent in mind for Aerostar too.

Pentagon Jr. will face ROH’s Raymond Rowe on 06/10 in Arlington, Texas.
