Lucha Azteca7 Elite: 2016-04-29

Mascara Dorada is impossible
Mascara Dorada is impossible

Recapped: 05/08/16

What happened: Volador Jr. & Ultimo Guerrero picked up 3 more points in the tournament. LA Park and Rush continue to hate each other.

What was good: Everything was watchable. The opener was a Volador special and the main event had some good moments. The trios match was not as dire as it looked on paper.

Where can I watch it: It’s on my YouTube channel and the Azteca 7 Elite show page.

Match 1: Volador Jr. vs Máscara Dorada in a Liga Elite match

Winner: Volador Jr. (Volador Spiral)
Match Time: 13:35

Review: [great] Expected fireworks match between the two guys with lots of really big moves. The dive back and forth to start was spectacular and a bit empty because it felt like there was nothing happening in between. It never really expanded beyond “setup, big move, break, next big move”, but the setups felt less forced later in the match, and they broke out somewhat unusual spots for these two. They kind of had to keep at the pace they were working for a full 14 minutes. Everything looked pretty good, even though they were trying some not easy stuff (and the one big slip almost ended the match early via accidental Dorada unmasking.) There’s no great story here but it’s a fun highlight reel.

Winner: Team Park (2-1)
Match Time: 17:40
Notes: Rush fouled LA Park, but Park kicked out. Rush did not kick out of the same.

Review: [good] Better than I would’ve figured, especially in the first couple of falls where they kept the action going. This didn’t stink, a miracle given who’s involved. The production of this show helps – the fans are either way turned up or being added after – and it may have helped Super Parka not look nearly as bad as on previous show. The editing really got distracted in the third fall, with some quite lengthy cut out. Rush grabbing Guapito and tossing him is something that I couldn’t imagine happening on any other show. Same with the broken bottles.

Match 3: Bobby Lashley vs Último Guerrero in a Liga Elite match

Arena México, 04/27/2016
Video: thecubsfan

Winner: Ultimo Guerrero
Match Time: 10:22

Review: [good] A good brawl, playing to Ultimo Guerrero’s strengths at the moment while setting up plenty of spots for Lashley to look impressive. It didn’t seem to have much more of a story than the last match, the big spots just tended to be throwing people around instead of throwing yourself around. It kind of lacked a little bit of drama near the end; it didn’t feel like it was about to end until it just did. The announcers flipping out about Lashley being able to press slam Ultimo was fun. The fans sounding like this was a major show main event was also fun.
