Recapped: 04/30/2016

What happened: Mary Apache is a técnico again. Angelico returned to cost the Perros a match, who were then totally destroyed by Pagano, Halloween and Damian. Psycho kept his championship over Wagner, but was left humiliated at the end of the match.

What was good: I didn’t like much of anything, though nothing was outright horrible.

Where can I watch it:  It’s on AAA’s channel.

Previously: Donald Trump said somethings. Texano was destroyed.

Match 1: Faby Apache, Maravilla, Mary Apache vs La Hiedra, Lady Shani, Taya

Winner: tecnicas (Mary Apache top rope senton con giro)
Match Time: 8:22
Notes: Everyone asks surprised Mary Apache’s on the tecnica side, though it’s not like she was a mystery person. Mary complains about being on the tecnicas side before the match, but says he’s going to be professional. Tirantes plays nice to her. Faby says she asked Joaquin to put her on the tecnica side, and their best matches are on the same side. The rudas end the discussion by attacking everyone. Mary Apache didn’t work with her partner sand the rudas occasionally tried to get her to switches sides, but the rudas still were no match for the tecnica side. Maravilla & Faby tried to celebrate with Faby, but she pushed them away. Faby walked out, despite Maravilla trying to convince her to stay. Mary watches Hiedra shoves her, and Mary dopes her with a Michinoku Driver. Faby and Shani attack and stomp Mary, with Faby and Maravilal returning to scare them away. Mary pushed away the tecnicas again, there’s a crowdshot, and Maya & Faby are hugging. They chase the rudas away.

Review: [ok] More successful as an angle than match. The quality of the sports weren’t so great – there’s a sequence with Maravilla, Taya and Shani that’s a struggle – and they never got to a good pace or some interesting spots. Mary not getting along with her partners didn’t affect the match at all, which is an odd way to tell that story.

Match 2: Argenis, Australian Suicide, Jack Evans vs Daga, Joe Lider, Pentagón Jr.

Winner: técnicos (Jack Evans bridging backslide Pentagon Jr.)
Match Time: 9:31
Notes: Pentagon has his Rey de Reyes sword and his Perros del Mal Light Heavyweight championship. Taya and Kahn are with them and interfere a lot, with it eventually backfiring for the comeback. Suicide pulls Daga’s tights on a pin, but it doesn’t work. After a run of finishes, Pentagon is about to finish off Jack Evans when Angelico runs in and Pentagon lets go. Jack gets in his Jackie Chan kick, and Jack’s bridging backslide wins the match. (Piero was watching Joe Lider and Argenis, it seemed.)

Pentagon yells at the técnicos and tells Jack he’s coming for him. The Perros turn to leave when the lights go out and an evil clown video plays on the screen. The Fronterza (Halloween, Damian and Pagano – no Nicho) sneak in the ring and grab Taya in the meantime, threatening her before thrown her out onto the Perros. Daga punches Pagano, who doesn’t sell, and drops Daga with a flipping DDT. Chairshot to Pentagon and both are tied to the ropes. It takes quite a while to set up, but Joe Lider is eventually given an Air Raid Crash thru a table with thumbtacks. Halloween taunts the Perros. Damian tries to start a Tijuana chant. Pagano does his catchphrase. Daga gets stapled. Pentagon breaks free and gets stapled, and Lider gets powerbombed on the thumbtacks.

Review: [ok] Just didn’t click for me even though it was good at times, and the parts with Daga & Suicide were the best. The metric ton of interference was getting old. The Angelico run-in balances it out, but felt like a flat ending to a match. They’ve had better matches. The post match attack could’ve used some editing to take out the long table setup; the post match angle felt like it went nearly as long as the match.

Match 3: Psycho Clown © vs Dr. Wagner Jr. for the AAA Latin American Championship
Gimnasio Olímpico Juan de la Barrera, Ciudad de México, Distrito Federal, 04/08/2016

Winner: Psycho Clown
Match Time: 15:02
Notes: Villano IV and Máscarita Sagrada are seconds. Tirantes is referee. Early portion of match also includes ludicirous spot where Wagner can not get a chair to wedge in the corner, so Tirantes holds it for him. Wagner tries to drop Máscarita Sagrada on the barricade in front of Marisela Pena, and security pushes Sagrada way in air rather than let Marisela get hit. Psycho bleeds heavily off one chair shot or another. Tirantes refuses to count for Psycho and fast counts for Wagner. He’s eventually speared thru a table. Wagner immediately gets in a foul and Wagner Driver, with Villano counting from the outside. Piero takes forever to show up, and Psycho fouls and unmasks him from behind. It’s unclear if Piero saw it, but he counts three anyway. Psycho celebrates for a minute before Wagner pulls of his mask and poses with it. Psycho’s left covering up to end the show.

Review: [ok] It’s the Rey de Reyes match with a different finish. Wagner did his LA Park style walk and brawl match, Tirantes cheated, and Villano even made sure Wagner got a visual pinfall. If you really like this style, you may get a lot more out of it than me, but this felt so played out and I couldn’t maintain any interest in it. I felt bad about not giving it credit given how hard Psycho was working, until they did the bit where Tirantes refused to count again. Camera shot going to Piero instead of the winning pinfall seemed about right. This is clearly meant to be a big win for Psycho, and Wagner still unmasks him and lays him out at the end. Villano IV jumping in front of Psycho’s tope con giro to help catch him was the most amusing part of the match.
