Tonight’s the second block of the Torneo Increibles de Parajes. Mistico & Mephisto won the other block last week and will meet tonight’s winner next week. Most CMLL tournaments are easy to figure because there’s usually a tecnico/rudo final, but this one is a little tougher since all the teams are supposed to be tecnico/rudo teams. The teams in the block:

  • The Panther & Tiger
  • Titán & Vangellys
  • Terrible & Máximo
  • Rey Escorpión & Último Guerrero
  • La Máscara & Dragon Lee (probably!)
  • Brazo de Plata & Kráneo
  • Atlantis & Gran Guerrero
  • Carístico & Cibernético

Carístico & Cibernético advancing to the final would set up the first Caristico/Mistico match. They’ve been saving that for a big show, and maybe the Arena Mexico 60th Anniversary is that show. It’s the outcome they’re pushing hardest in the preview. Atlantis does well in this tournament annually, so he can’t be ruled out. Terrible & Maximo and Rey Escorpion & Ultimo Guerrero also do well in these sort of things and have a shot.

The rest of the show doesn’t have anything too important. The minis are int he opener, with Stukita making an appearance. (Angelito will not, he was pulled out of the match midweek.) Triton, Pegasso and Esfinge face Virus, Skandalo and Cuatrero, as the Dinamita kids have been split up among different shows this week. Angel de Oro, Rey Cometa and Stuka Jr. face Euforia, Ripper, Olimpico and Barbaro Cavernario, Felino and Mr. Niebla versus Mistico, Volador Jr., and Mascara Dorada in the main event but both matches are likely to be cut for time. This is going to be a long show and probably not a particularly good one.

The show starts at the normal 8:30pm time and will air on ClaroSports.com.

Titan and Vangellys talked to ESTO about why they’re going to win – they don’t hate each other and it helps – but the real news from that article is someone from Guns N’ Roses bought a Palacio Negro mask.

The Mexican Lottery had a CMLL themed promotion last summer. It must’ve gone well, because they’re doing a similar one starting tonight in honor of the Arena Mexico 60th Anniversary. Tickets go on sale tonight at Arena Mexico and everywhere on Monday, and the drawing is on May 3rd.

The big round number for Arena Mexico’s Anniversary and the tease of Rush/Marco suggests next Friday could be an iPPV. However, so far, CMLL’s Cleeng site doesn’t list any upcoming event.

There’s a mess with Pentagon Jr. and where he’s going to be wrestling on April 30th. He’d been advertised for weeks as appearing on San Diego’s Finest City Wrestling show for that day.

Pentagon Jr. was announced as of the 04/30 Finest City Wrestling show in San Diego. He’s also been advertised more recently for a show in Chilapancingo on the same day. (Pentagon had also been listed on a third show in Tehuacan, Puebla on AAA’s Facebook – but the comments on the event say it’s now canceled.) Last night, the FCW promoter announced Pentagon Jr. was pulled off his show. It’s darkly humorous, as the promoter notes he’s been told not to make a public outrage about it as he makes a public outrage about it. The promoter says he’s going to try to get Fenix or Jack Evans as a replacement. I hope he does, but Fenix is booked on the Chilapancingo show too.

Figuring out what exactly happened is hard to discern. It does not appear Pentagon just took it without telling anyone. There’s a implication this was booked thru AAA, but there’s also Dorian saying it wasn’t booked properly thru AAA – “any other way doesn’t work.” I do not know what happened here. My impression is Konnan was a big part of booking AAA wrestlers to US/Canada in recent years, and that he’s no longer doing that or working for AAA. It’s possibly something got lost or messed up in the transition, but that’s just throwing out a guess. I really don’t know.

It’s also a situation that seems handled inconsistently and not just limited to US shows. I mentioned Daga winning Apache’s hair a couple of days ago in Aguascalientes. That was surprising, not just because we never had a card for Aguascalientes, but because Daga had been advertised for a while as main eventing a show in Arena Aficion the same night. Pentagon worked in Chile this past weekend, not an official AAA show as far as I can tell, instead of the AAA Arena Neza spot show he’d been advertised for a couple weeks. It’s tough to tell exactly how these decisions are made, or even if there has been any changes made until the show happens. (In the unlikely event we get results from the Chilpancingo show, I’d bet there will be a different matches than advertised there too.) The easy guess is these guys end up working for the show which is paying AAA the most. In this case, it’s probably not the one who’s going to make the most money for the luchador – Pentagon Jr. would’ve to make a lot more money selling merchandise in San Diego than he’s going to get in Chilpancingo. So this is disappointing for him.

Anyway, this idea of people being booked in multiple places on the same day might be coming up for Elite next week, or it might give a clue on what the card is for Wednesday. Elite’s releasing their lineups on Friday night, but we already know Caristico, Cibernetico, La Mascara and Negro Casas are all booked for a show in San Luis Potosi thru Elite for that day. (Mistico too.) Atlantis, Extreme Tiger, Dorada have already had already had two matches in Liga Elite, so they’re probably not having one next week. That leaves LA Park, Lashley, Rush, Guerrero and Volador, five guys for four spots. Rush and Ultimo Guerrero are facing on Monday and so they’ll likely not want to repeat that, and Rush and Lashley have already fought, so maybe Rush versus LA Park or Rush versus Volador next week? Maybe Guerrero against the other one?

Segunda Caida reviews Atlantis, Máscara Sagrada, Pantera Del Ring vs Jerry Estrada, MS-1, Negro Casas and Lucha Underground episode 12.

Silver King is the start of a Ford commercial in Europe. I rate the match ***.
