CMLL Puebla: 2016-04-18

Mascara Dorada flies up the aisle
Mascara Dorada flies up the aisle

Recapped: 04/18/16

What happened: Ultimo Guerrero defeated Rush, setting up a singles match next week. And that’s it.

What was good: I didn’t mind the main event, but only the Rush/Ultimo match is worth seeking out.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube channel

Match 1: Astro, Centella Roja, París vs El Malayo, Fuerza Chicana, King Jaguar
Arena Puebla, 04/18/2016

  1. rudos
    • Fuerza Chicana front cracker Astro (5:35)
    • Malayo elbow drop Centella Roja (5:46)
  2. tecnicos
    • Paris leg trap armbar Malayo (4:47)
  3. fall 3
    • Malayo Artillero Special Centella Roja (2:08)
    • Fuerza Chicana Weapon X Paris (2:47)

Winner: Malayo (2-1)
Match Time: 13:20

Review: [ok] An opener with major flwas but without a lot of interesting spots. Astro got to do the one fun spot of the match. Centella Roja was generally better except when it came to finishes; not sure why he did a moonsault onto nothing to end the third fall. The fastest he moved all match was running to the back when the next match started.

Match 2: Arkalis, Star Jr., Starman vs Policeman, Rey Apocalipsis, Toro Bill Jr.
Arena Puebla, 04/18/2016

  1. rudos
    • Toro Bill Volador Spiral Akralos (4:42)
    • Rey Apocalispis half crab Starman (5:16)
  2. tecnicos
    • Arkalis huracanrana Toro Bill Jr. (4:08)
    • Starman titled scorpion Policeman (4:15)
  3. rudos
    • Starman inside cradle Rey Apocalispis (1:21)
    • Star Jr. tornilo moonsault Policeman (2:36)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:07

Review: [ok] Solid but unremarkable match. The Batillon seemed toned down – less spots, but less reckless. Toro Bill probably did the biggest damage to himself on his dive out of the ring and his flip over the ropes. Star Jr. looks good at times, but also overshot Policeman on the finish. Arkalis seemed to work hard and well with Policeman. Starman did very little in this match.

Match 3: Fuego, Stigma, Tritón vs Sagrado, Skándalo, Virus
Arena Puebla, 04/18/2016

  1. tecnicos
    • Triton top rope senton con giro Skandalo (6:48)
    • Stigma guillotine Virus (6:50)
  2. rudos
    • Skandalo corner dropkick Stigma (4:24)
    • Motovirus on Fuego (4:58)
  3. rudos
    • Sagrado Rosa suplex Fuego (3:20)
    • Skandalo Driver on Stigma (3:54)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:42

Review: [below average] this is probably hurt by this being the fourth hour of CMLL I’ve watched at this point, but, on the other hand, this was also really boring. This felt like a lesser effort than usual from the good people and any match with Skandalo is going to need extra effort to be good. Nothing worth going back on this one.

Match 4: La Máscara, Rush, Terrible vs Atlantis, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero in a relevos increíbles match
Arena Puebla, 04/18/2016

  1. Team Rush
    • Rush corner dropkick Gran Guerrero (1:56)
    • La Mascara corner double knee smash Ultimo Guerrero (2:06)
  2. Team Guerrero
    • Atlantis casadora cradle Terrible (3:31)
    • Gran Guerrero Pulpo Guerrero La Mascara
  3. Team Guerrero
    • Ultimo Guerrero pin Rush (5:04)

Winner: Team Guerrero (2-1)
Match Time: 10:41
Notes: Ultimo Guerrero hooked the bottom rope on the bottom. Rush demanded a singles match and UG agreed (first in English)

Review: [good] most enjoyable match on the show so far, because Rush was in a highly sarcastic mood. He and Ultimo Guerrero seem to be bringing out the best of each other so far, and it makes next week’s singles match interesting. Tecnico Gran Guerrero doesn’t bring out the best of him (such a bad headscissors on the floor), but Terrible hanging out with La Mascara & Rush worked for this match. They ignored any issues with Atlantis & the Guerreros this week.

Match 5: Cibernético, Mr. Niebla, Rey Escorpión vs Ángel de Oro, Máscara Dorada, Volador Jr.
Arena Puebla, 04/18/2016

  1. técnicos
    • Mascara Dorada running shooting star press Cibernetico (4:40)
  2. rudos
    • Rey Escorpion half crab/armbar Volador (3:44)
  3. rudos
    • Garra Cibernetica Volador Jr. (3:16)
    • Mephisto Devil’s Wings Angel de Oro (3:16)

Winner: rudos
Match Time: 11:40

Review: [ok] serviceable main event; it wasn’t the rushed feeling matches of previous weeks, though it also wasn’t a superb reward for sticking thru the boring matches earlier. Caristico seems to have fit right back into CMLL quickly, but most Cibernetico matches still feel really strange – just the idea of having facing the likes of Mascara Dorada & Angel de Oro still feels novel, and the matches are not bad. Dorada throwing himself into a tope was one of the cooler moments of the night.

  1. It felt like they mite set up cibernetico/volador. But their not matched next week..
What happened to lestat? He hasn’t been around after his push? Also wasn’t there cibernetico last year where the winners were going to get a shot in arena Mexico?
