these guys are made for each other
these guys are made for each other

Recapped: 03/19/2016

What happened: Nothing really. Mesias won a pointless bull terrier match. The people in the top two matches on Rey de Reyes brawled with each other.

What was good: Nothing. The 2v2 tag match is the best on the show, but nothing as much as you’d expect from those guys. I hated the main event – the wrestling wasn’t much, but the storyline aggravated even more.

Where can I watch it: It’s on AAA’s YouTube channel. I’ve got the direct links i the recap.

Previously: Octagon Jr. debuted, but Pentagon won. And that’s it.

Match 1: Goya Kong, Máscarita Sagrada, Niño Hamburguesa vs El Apache, Mini Psycho Clown, Taya

Winner: técnicos (Hamburguesa splash on everyone)
Match Time: 7:24
Notes: This turns out to be Goya Kong’s last TV appearance.

Review: [below average] These are heading towards more complete comedy than before, with no pretense of anything else in here. Goya leaving will helpfully change the formula a bit, because there’s not much they could do much else they could do with her and Niño on the same. Máscarita and Taya fought each other a lot early and it didn’t go well any time. I’d much rather go with Máscarita if it was on the ruda team but this wasn’t working at all. There was less flow to the match too; the tecnicas squashed the rudos in the corner, and the rudos were doing their own corner attack on the rudos about 20 seconds later. Crowd did make a lot of noise for this match, but I was happy it was done quicker than usual.

Match 2: Aerostar & Drago vs Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Taurus

ENTRE SEGUNDA Y TERCERAthecubsfanluchalibreaaatv

Winner: rudos (Taurus Driver on Aerostar)
Match Time: 9:00

Review: [ok] Not nearly the pace or intenstiy you’d heop for with this match up. Everyone just didn’t seem as sharp as usual for whatever reason, and there weren’t as many highlights as you’d expect. Maybe they needed one more guy on each side to keep the pace up, but there was a lot of wandering and one strange spot of everyone getting lost that they kept in. Finish is perplexing given Taurus has no program at all and Aerostar was the one challenging for a trios title match. Giving Taurus something do would be great but they haven’t done that either.

Match 3: El Mesías vs Dr. Wagner Jr.Texano Jr. in a bull terrier match

Winner: Mesias (touch all four corners)
Match Time: 8:31
Notes: Mesias has a new shirt that’s so obviously a Los Ingobernables clone that it’s amusing. Wagner cuts a (face) promo instead of putting on the dog collar, complaining about Psycho Clown’s messages on Twitter. This kills some time. Wagner also explains he’s winning the Mega championship from whoever wins it at Rey de Reyes. Tirantes tries to get Wagner to wrap up and gets slapped, and Tirantes isn’t taking that. The dog collar finally goes on. Wagner just keeps talking and finally the other two guys attack him. Tirantes also stops Wagner from touching all four corners at one point, then is friends with him later when he points out Dr. Wagner forgot to the corners in order (which apparently is still fine.) Psycho Clown runs in at that point and hits Wagner with a chair to the head to boos. Psycho and Wagner brawl into the crowd and Mesias & Texano in the ring after the match. Mesias and Texano go to the back as Wagner cuts another promo on Psycho. Wagner challenges for mask vs mask. Psycho accepts and Wagner starts to leave. Psycho does the dreaded football chant, which gets muted out each time.

Review: [terrible] there are going to be worse executed matches this year but this was as aggravating and idiotic match as you can get. Just aggressively dumb with no redeeming action. Maybe if you like guys standing in place and punching each other and occasionally choking each other in ways where no one feels in trouble ever, you may get more of it. Hijo del Tirantes turning on Wagner and then being his friend for no reason later, Mesias & Texano looking like secondary goofs no match for Wagner even though they’re going for the heavyweight title, Dr. Wagner working as a complete técnico despite supposedly being a rudo in his feud with Psycho Clown – this was as counter productive matches as they come. The win felt like it meant absolutely zero, and they confirmed that by having Texano beat up Mesias immediately after. All four guys tried much harder in the post match brawl than they did in the match, but I was totally disinterested at that point.
