What happened: Dalys defeated Marcela to become the CMLL Women’s World Champion. She’s the 18th champion.

The underdogs for next week’s hair match won both their matches. Negro Casas defeated Volador after a foul and some interference from Tiger & Puma again. Máximo defeated Rush cleanly after kissing him.

Also, the theatrical play La Dama del Negro was honored before the main event for 22 consecutive years off performances. This included La Dama del Negro making a cameo earlier in the night, and various CMLL ‘terror’ characters being the part of a presentation of a giant plaque. One of the actors praised lucha libre (or at least the luchadors he could remember from the old song), but there was no obvious connection to CMLL explaining why they were giving such a big presentation. Someone in charge must be a big fan.

Homenaje a Dos Leyendas was mentioned thru the show, but the fact that it was on iPPV was barely mentioned if at all to the audience most likely to purchase it.

What was good: The women’s match was fine, but didn’t seem at the level of other big women’s title matches. (I liked Silueta/Zeuxis more, without a question.) The minis opener was a lot of fun. The later matches were more angles than matches, the angles were pretty good.

Where can I watch it: The main event is on ClaroSports.com. The show will air on Claro Sports TV in a week or so, and on Azteca on 04/02.

Match 1: Astral & Stukita vs Mercurio & Pequeño Nitro
Arena México, 03/11/2016

  1. rudos
    • Pequeño Nitro top rope splash Astral (5:41)
    • Mercurio double stomp Stukita (6:46)
  2. técnicos
    • Stukita triple moonsault Mercurio (4:30)
    • COR Pequeño Nitro (4:54)
  3. tecnicos
    • Astral top rope splash Mercurio (4:17)
    • COR Pequeño Nitro (4:52)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 16:32

Review: [good] fun opener, with the middle fall being really good. Stukita got to show off more than in other matches, and these are the right two rudos to set him up. Astral has his usual couple of awkward moments. Stukita and Astral doing simultaneous moonsaults didn’t benefit Astral much. This would’ve been a better match without things like Pequeño Nitro having to roll out of the ring oddly in place of a dive spot, but the swing he took into the barricade looked brutal for any match. Mercurio is a great character.

Match 2: Blue Panther Jr., Fuego, The Panther vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
Arena México, 03/11/2016

  1. Cancerberos
    • Virus senton The Panther (5:44)
    • nudo Virus Blue Panther Jr. (6:24)
  2. técnicos
    • Fuego Flashina Virus (3:43)
  3. técnicos
    • Blue Panther Jr. spinning one arm powerbomb Raziel (3:58)
    • The Panther kneebar Cancerbero (4:35)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:42

Review: [ok] slightly better than average trios match that didn’t feel bad, but didn’t stand out much. The rudos have their teamwork down, which is good for efficiently but bad in that they’ve been doing the same trios moves for half a decade. Blue Panther Jr. had an awkward night, not meshing well at times. The Panther had many more high spots to him, but stumbled badly leading into the finish. There was some good layout stuff here, especially extended the match where you thought it might be over, but the content itself was no so special.

Match 3: Blue Panther, Stuka Jr., Súper Porky vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys

Arena México, 03/11/2016

  1. TGR
    • Terrible dropkick Super Porky (4:48)
  2. tecnicos
    • Stuka torpedo splash Terrible (2:40)
  3. técnicos
    • Terrible powerbob Stuka (4:11)
    • Rey Bucanero inside cradle Blue Panther (4:21)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:49

Review: [ok] TGR getting another win in a Super Porky comedy match. It didn’t totally get into Super Porky comedy until the third fall, but it didn’t feel like they were especially doing a lot before that point either. It’s weird that CMLL’s system says it’s OK that Blue Panther, who wasn’t moving well, diving is a better idea than his sons doing the same.

Match 4: Marcela © vs Dalys for the CMLL World Women’s Championship
Arena México, 03/11/2016

  1. Dalys scorpion (3:58)
  2. Marcela double stomp (2:23)
  3. Dalys casita (6:18)

Winner: Dalys (2-1), new champion
Match Time: 12:39
Notes: Skadi and La Comandante were seconds. Marcela seemed to be hurt after landing the double stomp to win the second fall, but continue the match. Dalys is the first Panamanian champion, and 18th champion over all.

Review: [good] fine enough title match with enough exciting moments to make it worthwhile, if lacking that little bit extra that you’d need make it very memorable. It felt like an extension of the lightning match they’ve had previously. They worked hard, though the match came off as practiced at points – you could watch Dalys move to the next position without reason. Dalys didn’t feel like the best women’s wrestler in the world, but didn’t feel totlaly out of place.

Match 5: Máscara Dorada, Súper Parka, Volador Jr. vs Cavernario, Kamaitachi, Negro Casas
Arena México, 03/11/2016

  1. rudos
    • Barbaro Cavernario anti-air missile dropkick Volador Jr. (1:08)
  2. rudos
    • Super Parka splash counter Barbaro Cavernario (3:16)
    • Kamaitachi ramp jumping forearm Super Parka (3:26)
    • Negro Casas foul Volador 1226 (4:32)

Winner: rudos (2-0)
Match Time: 5:40
Notes: Rudos jumped the tecnicos, which led to a parade of high spots on the ramp. Tiger and Puma interfered to help out tio Negro again. The rudos destroyed the técnicos after the match, with Puma and Tiger getting their own chances to mock Volador.

Review: [ok] this was a good storyline match for how long it lasted. The rudo team was a great crew of evildoers, though the time in the match didn’t give them much of an opportunity to do things. It worked in their favor too – the match moved fast enough that Super Parka was continually limited to 10-15 seconds, the best way to use him. (The biggest Super Parka related messed up spot was Kamaitachi not being able to clear the ropes on the ramp dropkick, not even his fault.) The Tiger/Puma stuff has to be leading to some other family member getting involved, they’ve done it too many times for it to happen for no reason. Maybe it’s simply Super Parka getting his own revenge by punching out Puma at some point, but it’s there for a reason.

Match 6: Marco Corleone, Máximo Sexy, Último Guerrero vs La Máscara, Rey Escorpión, Rush in a relevos increíbles match
Arena México, 03/11/2016

  1. rudos
    • La Mascara Boston crab Ultimo Guerrero (1:52)
  2. técnicos
    • Marco Corleone Air Corleone La Mascara & Rey Escorpión (2:16)
  3. técnicos
    • Máximo kiss cradle Rush (4:12)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 8:20
Notes: Máximo claimed Rush liked the kiss at the end of the match. Rush strongly disagreed!

Review: [good] a short match and one in complete service of the match next week, but also a well done built up trios match around the idea of Máximo wanting that kiss on Rush and getting stopped multiple times before finally getting it. The Volador/Casas feud has more things going on, but this definitely feels like the bigger match and it’s strange that it’ll be going on first of the two. This was a lot of the other four guys (intentionally) getting away, but the timing of the spots was good and the action was strong thru the match. Escorpión sucking up to the Ingobernables is an interesting subplot.
