Show seemed to draw OK for a very rare Thursday show in Mexico City. It’s supposed to be a regular thing. Alan Extreme is going to have to cover his face in shame after losing his hair again.

The last match on tonight’s CMLL card is Atlantis, Mascara Dorada, Volador versus Cavernario, Mr. Niebla and Negro Casas as build to Volador versus Casas in a couple weeks, but the real main event Kamaitachi versus Dragon Lee once again. It’s their fifth title match in the last night months, but the first where Kamaitachi comes in as champion. Those matches have established a high standard, I really have no idea how they can manage to top what they’ve done in the past, but they’ve managed to do it each time in the past.

Normal CMLL booking would have Dragon Lee win the championship back and Kamaitachi head back to Japan. However, we’re well outside normal CMLL booking – Kamaitachi would’ve been gone months ago normally, and wouldn’t also still be booked for a spotlight match on Dos Leyendas if he was wrapping up. I tend to think Kamaitachi is keeping the title and Dragon Lee or someone else will have to eventually chase him back to Japan to get it, but I could see any outcome from tonight’s match.

The rest of the card is interesting, and might have some good matches. The main event is about Casas/Volador, while the seminain is about Maximo/Rush. Rush teams with La Mascara and old Maximo rival Rey Escorpion while Maximo has Marco and Ultimo Guerrero. Tercera has the all Guadalajara team of Titan, Triton and Esfinge taking on Virus, Mephisto and Ephesto. The segunda is a women’s match with Marcela & Dalys on opposite sides, which may set up a title match between them next week. And the opener has Cuatrero & Sanson versus Hombre Bala & Super Halcon, which would be very interesting without the opening match restrictions and might still be OK with them.

The show starts at 8:30pm CT. and will air on ClaroSports.

AAA tapes their own TV show tonight in Toluca. Again, the main event is a built to the later show, Texano Jr. versus Dr. Wagner versus Mesias in a bull terrier match (which usually doesn’t add anything much to a match, but allows them to get out of it without anyone getting pinned.) The most interesting match is a four way match between Pentagon Jr. vs Hijo del Fantasma vs Fenix vs a luchador to be announced, as Group 4 of the Rey de Reyes. The names involved mean that match could be in the same stratosphere as Kamaitachi/Dragon Lee, assuming the mystery luchador is any good and the booking stays out of the way. AAA hasn’t given out a hint of the identity, just hinting that it’s a big deal. The silhouette on the poster looks a lot like Fireball, but this is the poster where they also put Daga on it despite him not having a match, so they could just be testing to see if we’re paying attention. Pentagon seems like the favorite to win this block, but it’s no sure thing – the only sure thing is the winner of this group will probably be the best pick to win the whole tournament given who else is involved.

The card also has Psycho Circus versus Zorro, Cuervo and Escoria, which might be the champs getting a Wagner added win before Rey de Reyes. Aerostar & Drago taking on Priata & Taurus in what could be a good match, and there’s a usual mixed tag match to open it Ludxor says he’s going to the taping tonight. It may just be a trip to Toluca to hang out, but AAA ought to be adding an extra match to tonight’s show to give them an extra week of TV and Ludxor in a bonus match is what seems to happen usually in this situation.

The show starts is listed as 8:45 pm, and will actually get going a few minutes after that. AAA’s social media will have results, and the first part of the show should air this weekend.

AAA has an Aerostar interview talking about his match with Drago against Pirata & Taurus as preparation for the AAA trios title match at Rey de Reyes.

Hayabusa passed away earlier this week, with the news coming out last night. SuperLuchas has a detailed obit, and BAHU has a very detailed match by match history of his career. Hayabusa came to Mexico in 1993 to wrestle near Tijuana where he was first given a mask, then wrestled in CMLL for a large chunk of 1994. His style as a high flyer had a significant influence on lucha libre and current luchadors. (Sometimes literally: Pentagon Jr. and ex-CMLL Ramstein’s masks were designed with Hayabusa’s mask in mind.) Hayabusa returned to Mexico in 2012 as part of LEGEND’s Lucha Fan Fest. Hayabusa’s life was irrevocably changed by a slip and horrendous fall off a springboard moonsault, something I’m sure is going to be on my mind every time Dragon Lee and Kamaitachi attempt something crazy tonight. I hope both promotions mention Hayabusa tonight.

Elite said they drew well in Aguascalientes last night. It doesn’t look full, but it’s well attended.

Volador says he’ll fight Negro Casas clean if Casas fights clean, but he’ll cheat if Casas also cheats.

CaraLuchas announced a 03/12 show with Wotan vs Joe Lider vs Ciclope vs Danger in a four way extreme match.

It reads like Guadalajara TV is airing a repeat this week, so maybe Dorada/Casas won’t air anywhere. That’d be a shame.

C2E2 says Lucha Underground will not appear the Chicago comic book expo on the weekend of 03/20.

+LuchaTV has a new episode of Esto es Lucha with Dhani and no Joe Lider.

LuchaWorld has a recap of CMLL Informa.

Pro Wrestling Revolution says they’re doing a iPPV with Caristico on March 26th.
