The Panther tope
The Panther tope

Recapped: 03/01/2016

What happened: Hijos del Infierno successfully defended the trios titles over Divinos Laguneros. Puma fouled Stigma to end the third match in straight falls. Rey Cometa was stretchered out after a piledriver.

What was good: Really just the main event, though there were some semimain moments that were good.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube channel. Matches will air in MegaSports next Monday, and may air on LATV at some point.

Match 1: Acero & Fantasy vs Mercurio & Pequeño Universo 2000
Arena México, 03/01/2016

  1. rudos
    • Merucrio dropkick to the face Fantasy (5:54)
    • Pequeño Universo senton Acero (6:08)
  2. técnicos
    • Ultimo Dragoncito crucifix cradle Pequeño Universo (3:19)
    • Acero kneebar Mercurio (3:29)
  3. técnicos
    • Acero reverse armbar Pequeño Universo (1:25)
    • Ultimo Dragoncito crucifix cradle Mercurio (2:32)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:09

Review: [below average] sleepy, quiet match that the crowd didn’t react to at all. They went out of there wasy to do a near fall on Mercurio’s package piledriver and that didn’t work either. (It was also dumb.) Acero did a little bit, not as much as you’d think for his one real match every two weeks.

Match 2: Magnus, Robin, Star Jr. vs Canelo Casas, Hijo del Signo, Metálico
Arena México, 03/01/2016

  1. rudos
    • Hijo del Signo top rope splash Star Jr. (10:13)
  2. técnicos
    • Magnus senton con giro Hijo del Signo (4:20)
    • Robin senton con giro Canelo Casas (4:20)
  3. rudos
    • Canelo Casas & Hijo del Signo double pin (3:08)
    • Metálico Dragon Bomb (3:52)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 18:21

Review: [ok] entertaining for the wrong reasons, with the rudos almost running into each other in celebration and Robin and Magnus nearly trying to do a senton con giro from the same corner at once. Star Jr. was good but mostly wasted in this match. First fall went way too long. I wonder if Dragon Rojo knows Metalico’s lifted his finisher, or if Metálico even knows.

Match 3: Oro Jr., Pegasso, Stigma vs Disturbio, Puma, Tiger
Arena México, 03/01/2016

  1. tecnicos
    • Puma missile dropkick Stigma (4:34)
    • Pegasso frog splash Tiger (5:27)
  2. tecnicos
    • DQ Puma [foul on Stigma] (5:05)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:32

Review: [OK] this got really fun near the end – the surprise apron dives really worked – but it really shouldn’t have been the end. This match felt like it barely got going before it ended, and it’s a completely pointless foul unless they bring back Puma & Stigma, and I don’t really want to see Puma & Stigma. I feel like I’m only pointing out the mistakes, but this legt had Pegasso breaking up the wrong top rope spot and that was amazing. Pegasso had a rough night until his dive at the end.

Match 4: Delta vs Sagrado in a lightning match

Arena México, 03/01/2016

Winner: Sagrado (powerbomb)
Match Time: 7:24

Review: [ok] Delta got in all of his offense so he lost via powerbomb, as it goes. This was off his usual offense, but the double stomp looked good. Sagrado didn’t do much more than get beat and get the win.

Match 5: Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa vs Boby Z, Rey Bucanero, Vangellys

Arena México, 03/01/2016

  1. rudos
    • Boby Z powerbomb Guerrero Maya (5:35)
  2. tecnicos
    • Fuego springboard splash all three rudos (2:39)
  3. rudos
    • Vangellys northern light suplex Fuego (2:57)
    • Rey Bucanero piledriver Rey Cometa (2:57)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:11

Review: [ok] best match of the show to this point, with some life in this with the double tope and the wackiness to end the second fall. Fuego and Cometa are good characters (even if Cometa happened to be in the wrong spot a couple of times), and Zavala versus Maya gave the match some sort of focus. Not a fan of yet another piledriver and another person being stretched out from it.

Match 6: Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto © vs Blue Panther, Blue Panther Jr., The Panther for the Mexican National Trios Championship
Arena México, 03/01/2016

  1. Divinos Laguneros
    • The Panther fujiwara Mephisto (3:27)
  2. Hijos del Infierno
    • Blue Panther Jr. & Lucififenro double pin (1:53)
    • Ephesto cradle The Panther (2:41)
  3. Hijos del Infierno
    • Mephisto La Rosa Blue Panther (7:16)

Winner: Hijos del Infierno (2-1), 3rd defense
Match Time: 13:24
Notes: The Panther crashed and burned on a first fall tope and seemed disoriented, but seemed to be fine the rest of the way

Review: [great] Really strong entertaining match, picking up the show. They were helped greatly by having a more creative match layout than usual. Maybe one too many double pins, but the third fall progressed where it could’ve ended in a few different matchups and just kept on going, making it feel more epic even without a super long length. The Panther excelled in this match, as he seems to more often in trios matches, and the crowd loved Blue Panther doing three topes at the end. The Hijos work to the level of their competition but fairly had a good day on it’s own, and Blue Panther Jr. Did not drag it down. This is comparable with some of the Reyes del Atlantida title matches.
