CMLL Puebla: 2016-02-29

Astro & Millenium
Astro & Millenium

Recapped: 02/29/2016

What happened: Ultimo Guerrero fouled Caristico in the main event. Princesa Sugehit defeated Zeuxis clean. Both outcomes may set up singles matches.

What was good: Nothing. This was a boring show you can easily skip unless you’re nostalgic for Caristico & Ultimo Guerrero but only want to watch it in HD.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube Channel and will air on 52MX in about 12 days.

Match 1: Astro, Centella Roja, Millenium vs Ares, Mini Joker, Saurón
Arena Puebla, 02/29/2016

  1. técnicos
    • Astro springboard splash Sauron (5:10)
    • Millenium ramp tope con giro Mini Joker (5:22)
  2. rudos
    • Mini Joker top rope splash Centella Roja (3:38)
    • Sauron motocicleta Astro (4:04)
  3. técnicos
    • Millenium head crank armbar Ares (4:16)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:42

Review: [ok] Millenium and Astro looked impressive in an opener that was more good than bad. Sauron had a notabely bad springboard moment, but otherwise the rudos were fine in this match. Mini Joker had a really cool mask.

Match 2: Black Tiger, Rey Samuray, Starman vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Espíritu Maligno, Fuerza Chicana
Arena Puebla, 02/29/2016

  1. rudos
    • Arkangel powerbomb Rey Samuray (6:54)
    • Fuerza Chicana front cracker Black Tiger (7:23)
  2. tecnicos
    • Rey Samuray huracanrana Fuerza Chicana (3:45)
    • Black Tiger superbomb Espiritu Maligno (4:17)
  3. rudos
    • Espiritu Maligno nudo Black Tiger (4:01)
    • Arkangel low blow elbow drop Starman (4:28)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 16:08

Review: [below average] definitely the lesser of the two local matches, with Starman and Arkangel dragging it into boredom most of the way. They woke the crowd up with some rudo comedy in the third fall, but this didn’t do much for me. Rey Samurai looked good when Tirantes wasn’t refusing to count his pinfall (and Samurai did totally panic after that happened.) Skip this one.

Match 3: Princesa Sugehit vs Zeuxis in a lightning match
Arena Puebla, 02/29/2016

Winner: Princesa Sugehit (headscissors armbar)
Match Time: 7:30

Review: [ok] Sugehit singles matches often lead me cold and this wasn’t much different. There wasn’t any flow and she doesn’t have many big offensive spots. There were a couple counter spots done well (that they’ve done before), but this was a less interesting match than the Zeuxis/Silueta matches.

Match 4: Dragón Lee, Stuka Jr., Titán vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
Arena Puebla, 02/29/2016

  1. rudos
    • Luciferno Hooligan Clash Titan (4:17)
    • Ephesto shoulderbreaker Titan (4:17)
  2. técnicos
    • Stuka torpedo splash Mephisto (3:06)
  3. tecnicos
    • Titan rope flip moonsault Ephesto (7:42)
    • Dragon Lee hanging double stomp Lucifierno (7:42)

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:05

Review: [ok] First two falls continued the boring trend, with the third feel redeeming it a bit still feeling long. This was the técnicos B or C matches, which is not enough to really make a match with the rudos interesting. Crowd reacted to Titan handwalking huge even having seen it for many years now, which is at least cool.

Match 5: Atlantis, Carístico, Mistico vs Euforia, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero
Arena Puebla, 02/29/2016

  1. rudos
    • Ultimo Guerrero double submission Caristico & Mistico
  2. técnicos
    • Atlantis casadora cradle Euforia (1:31)
    • Mistico modified cross face Rey Bucanero (1:34)
  3. técnicos
    • DQ Ultimo Guerrero [foul on Caristico]

Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:45
Notes: UG feuded with Caristico thru the match and the finish suggested a singles match between the two, but no challenge was made.

Review: [ok] The Caristico/Ultimo Guerrero stuff livened up what had been a dead show this point, though Caristico’s limited presence here makes it unclear if this will get any payoff. Mistico was so much better with Euforia (diving headscissors) than Rey Bucanero (messed up La Mistica) that it was kind of sad. Finish had no effort put into it, which matched the rest of the show.
