Monito!
Monito!

Recapped: 02/26/2014

What happened: Máximo outsmarted Rush in the main event to win in straight falls. Negro Casas gave Super Parka a tombstone (or tried to, anyway), and Volador attempted to do the same to Casas before it was broken out. Parka was stretchered out, and this came off as if it might be the last time we see him for a while. Both Dragon Lee and Dalys beat champions in what came off as the build up to title matches, but neither made challenges. The lineup given for next week suggested there isn’t a women’s title match planned (or they’re running two of them.)

What was good: Third match was the best match. I have a lot of stuff marked as OK, but it was all generally watchatble; the opener and the lightning matches are the ones most worth skipping.

Where can I watch it: The main event is on ClaroSports’ website (eventually, not yet.) I’ll have the show up Tuesday. It should air on Azteca on 03/26.

Match 1: Astral & Stukita vs Demus 3:16 & Pierrothito
Arena México, 02/26/2016

  1. rudos
    • Demus 3:16 inverted powerslam Stukita (5:07)
    • Pierrothito half crab Astral (5:07)
  2. técnicos
    • Astral springboard splash Pierrothito (4:01)
    • COR Demus (4:25)
  3. rudos
    • Pierrothito nudo Stukita (3:35)
    • Astro kneeling tirabuzon Pierrothito (4:12)
    • Demus double underhook piledriver Astral (4:32)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:04

Review: [ok] Just kind of a match. The rudos took a lot of the second fall. It was a much slower match than you’d expect the from the minis, even with the técnicos were in control. Astral had some cringy moments, and a really good headscissros to the outside. Stukita just got in his greatest hits it is before he was unsurprisingly beat. Demus has the few spots he’s going to do, including dropping a guy on his head, and no more.

Match 2: Blue Panther Jr., The Panther, Tritón vs Fujin, Raijin, Skándalo

Arena México, 02/26/2016

  1. técnicos
    • Triton guillotine legdrop Skandalo (5:40)
  2. rudos
    • Fujin/Raijin frontcracker/wheelbarrow suplex combo The Panther (4:16)
    • Raijin package piledriver/Fujin heel kick (5:03)
  3. rudos
    • Skandalo Driver on Triton 1728-2233

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:48

Review: [ok] better than expected and nearly good, mostly because the NJPW guys have adjusted to CMLL already and fit in well. Fujin pulling out the rope walk bit was a big surprise, and I can’t wait to see what else they end up showing when they get out of the segundas. Skandalo was the real dead weight in this match, and poor Triton got stuck working with him most of the match and losing in the end. At least he did a nice 450 splash. Blue Panther Jr. still does annoying things and kicked poor Fujin right in the face, but also does some occasional good things. There’s a chance he might be decent someday.

  1. rudos
    • Okumura/Zavala two man DDT Angel de Oro (5:02)
  2. técnicos
    • Angel de Oro mecedora Bobby Z (2:56)
  3. técnicos

    • Bobby Z dropkick Stuka Jr. (5:59)
    • Dragon Lee Spanish Fly Kamaitachi (6:31)

Winner: tecnicas (2-1)
Match Time: 14:29
Notes: still no challenge from Dragon Lee despite the outcome.

Review: [good] Really good trios match. Didn’t deviate much from formula and still no title match challenge, but Dragon Lee and Kamaitachi are always great against each other and Dragon Lee was really good tonight. Stuka had a heavily taped up shoulder, but didn’t let it stop him from throwing the shoulder into Okumura on his dive. All six guys did well, with only Bobby having some iffy moments.

Match 4: Marcela vs Dalys in a lightning match
Arena México, 02/26/2016

Winner: Dalys (reversed cradle with ropes)
Match Time: 8:06

Dalys used the ropes to win, but also did not make a challenge.

Review: [ok] match just didn’t click; these two have matched up well before, but this felt off. The crowd was more willing to give it a chance than some other matches, but the action itself is actually felt like a random Tuesday exchange and definitely not the build up to a big title match. The finish says it’s happening, but there wasn’t anything special in this to make you want to see it.

Match 5: Mistico, Súper Parka, Volador Jr. vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
Arena México, 02/26/2016

  1. técnicos
    • La Mistica on Mr. Niebla (0:48)
  2. rudos
    • Mr. Niebla top rope splash Mistico (2:00)
  3. rudos
    • DQ Volador Jr. [ref attack Negro Casas] (3:04)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 5:52
Notes: The finish was supposed ot be Negro Casas giving Super Parka a martinete, but Parka slipped out of Casas’ hands and fell like he was taking a shoulderbreaker. Volador tried to give Casas a martinete, but Tirantes turned around to see it and broke it up. Volador shoved Tirantes down for the DQ. Volador wanted to get after Casas after the fact, while his father was stretchered out. After they left, Super Crazy came out to yell at Felino to build up their hair match on Sunday. Crazy laughed at the idea of Felino beating him.

Review: [below average] really just an angle to set up the finish, except the finish didn’t work. It’ll be a great challenge to even hide this in editing. The idea was solid, but Super Parka just can’t do this sort of thign any more and Negro Casas isn’t young or strong enough to cover it up. Zacarias & Monito looked more solid. They were smart to do Crazy/Felino, and it actually would’ve made more sense to include Crazy in the match than Mistico.

Match 6: La Máscara, Rush, Vangellys vs Marco Corleone, Máscara Dorada, Máximo Sexy
Arena México, 02/26/2016

  1. técnicos
    • DQ Rush [foul on Máximo] (4:08)
  2. técnicos
    • DQ Rush [fake foul by Máximo] (4:45)

Winner: técnicos (2-0)
Match Time: 8:53
Notes: Máximo almost won via kiss, but Mascara pulled Tirantes away. Máximo faked a foul, and than worked for DQ. Máximo and Rush went back and forth after the match, and the crowd was into it.

Review: [ok] back to back angles instead of matches is kind of asking a bit much, but the angle worked much better to end this show than it did with the last one. Máximo might not be about to outpower Rush, but he might be able to outsmart him like this. Crowd was into the match and very into the post match promos. The two man dive into the ring by Marco and Dorada looked cool, and Dorada did a great job of catching Marco by himself before the finish. Vangellys didn’t quite fit in with Mascara & Rush.
