CMLL Puebla: 2016-02-22

proof Caristico was really there
proof Caristico was really there

Recapped: 02/22/2016

What happened: Caristico made the save after Atlantis was fouled in the main event, with a tease of a match versus Ultimo Guerrero (or a tag match with Atlantis & Rey Bucanero.) Zeuxis tossed her mask to draw a DQ from Princesa Sugehit in the women’s match.

A Homenaje a Dos Leyendas press conference was announced for Wednesday at Noon (Central). The main event of the show is expected to be announced.

What was good: Not much. This was a show that ranged from boring to bad. I liked the opener, but even it was not as good as usual. It is possible CMLL used up all it’s energy for the next six months on Friday and we are very well doomed now.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s channel. It’ll air on 52MX in a couple weekends.

Match 1: Asturiano & Millenium vs Espíritu Maligno & Fuerza Chicana
Arena Puebla, 02/22/2016

  1. rudos
    • Fuerza Chicana half crab Astruiano (6:07)
    • Espiritu Maligno La Rosa Millenium (6:11)
  2. tecnicos
    • Asturiano El Puplo Espiritu Maligno (2:56)
    • COR Fuerza Chicana (3:16)
  3. rudos
    • Fuerza Chicana cradle DDT Millneium (1:43)
    • Espiritu Maligno upsied down crab Asturiano (1:55)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:22

Review: [good] a solid match and entetraining for Espiritu’s antics, but one where it didn’t feel like anyone else (crowd included) was really all that into it for whatever reason. It’s a smaller than usual crowd to start and that was definitely felt, but the luchadors outside of Espiritu weren’t really playing to them at all. Asturiano pulled off some neat headscissors anyway, and Fuerza about beheaded with the slingshot into the ropes. Espiritu taking his crazy bump to the outside (and his bad pointless 619) stuck out most of this match. At least he had fun.

Match 2: Estrellita, Princesa Sugehit, Silueta vs La Comandante, Reyna Isis, Zeuxis

    • Reina Isis pump splash Estrellita (4:07)
  2. rudas
    • DQ Princesa Sugehit [Zeuxis self mask pull] (3:55)

Winner: rudas (2-1)
Match Time: 15:15
Notes: Zeuxis tossed her mask to Sugehit behidn th eref’s back for the DQ.

Review: [below average] terminally boring match that went too long. Zeuxis was barely in this match. She didn’t seem to be limping, so maybe she’s fine but they didn’t want to take a chance for tomorrow. They didn’t protect Silueta in the same way, and they did seem to be setting up a Sugehit/Zeuxis feud, both things which may play in to Tuesday’s result. This would’ve been tough being interesting even with a fully participating Zeuxis and stood no chance without her.

Match 3: Delta, Esfinge, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Okumura, Ares, Virus
Arena Puebla, 02/22/2016

  1. rudos
    • Virus dropkick to the head Esfinge (8:54)
    • Okumura Michionku Driver Sangre Azteca (9:04)
  2. tecnicos
    • Delta Formacion on Arez (1:48)
    • Guerrero Maya Jr. reverse suastica Okumura (1:51)
  3. tecnicos
    • Guerrero Maya Jr. Sacrificia Maya Virus (5:02)

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:57
Notes: Ares subbed for Sangre Azteca.

Review: [ok] routine match of no notice, one I had trouble keeping my eyes on. It wasn’t botched spots (though Esfinge’s kicks weren’t so good), there was just nothing interesting to it Minimal Maya/Esfinge, Ares didn’t do anything notable as a sub, and the action was very familiar.

Match 4: Dragón Lee, Valiente, Titán vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
Arena Puebla, 02/22/2016

  1. Hijos del Infierno
    • Ephesto rebound splash Valiente (4:50)
  2. tecnicos
    • Dragon Lee double stomp Ephesto (4:05)
    • Titan El Inmortan Luciferno (4:15)
  1. Hijos del Infeirno
    • Luicferno Crash on Dragon Lee (5:04)
    • Ephesto shoulderbreaker Valiente (5:36)

Winner: Hijos del Infienro (2-1)
Match Time: 14:41
Notes: Valiente replaced Maximo

Review: [ok] had more life to it than the previous matches, and the crowd was more into Dragon Lee than they had been into anyone to this point. Still, it was another match kind of an autopilot – Lucifierno pinning Dragon Lee! – and only slightly better than some of the stuff that followed it. Hijos del Infierno have gotten better as a unit than they were six months ago, but it’d be nice if they got a trios title defense at some point.

Match 5: Atlantis, La Máscara, Rush vs Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero, Vangellys
Arena Puebla, 02/22/2016

  1. rudos
    • W Guerrera on all the tecnicos (2:57)
  2. tecnicos
    • La Mascara double knee smash Vangellys (2:29)
    • Rush corner dropkick Rey Bucanero (2:29)
  3. tecnicos
    • DQ Ultimo Guerrero [foul on Atlantis] 4245

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:41
Notes: Ultimo Guerrero got Atlantis with his behind the back foul after Mascara broke up an Atlantis pin. The Ingobernables took out, but Caristico made his first Arena Puebla appearance since his return to make the save. He got La Mistica on Ultimo Guerrero, but the other rudos quickly beat him up and ripped his mask. Post match promos teased Ultimo Guerrero vs Caristico, though maybe it was headed to an Ultimo Guerrero/Rey Bucanero vs Atlantis/Caristico tag match.

Review: [ok] It would’ve taken a really great match to pull me back into the show at this point, and this was a hurried thru the motion match. At least it paid off a little bit with the random Caristico appearance, but the match itself was yet another nothing match. The Mascara/Bucanero issue from last wee was all but dropped.
