Aerostar reverse
Aerostar makes this look too easy

Recapped: 02/20/16

What happened: Fenix, Aerostar and Drago defeated the trios champions and asked for a title shot. They were told no. Joe Lider & Pentagon Jr., attempting to do the same with the tag team titles, instead loss. Pentagon blamed Lider for the loss and they came close to fighting.

ALSO, I managed to get the AAA recap up on the first weekday after it aired, a miracle.

What was good: I enjoyed the minis match and the trios match.

Where can I watch it: It’s on AAA’s YouTube channel.

Previously: Taya & Daga challenged for a Mixed title shot, which put them in the sights of Pentagon Junior. Daga threw a chair very hard at Australian Suicide. Taya & Daga got that mixed title shot. Blue Demon Jr. got a spot on Rey de Reyes due to issues with Psycho & Demon.

Match 1: Dinastía, Máscarita Sagrada, Octagoncito vs Lanzeloth, Mini Charly Manson, Mini Psycho Clown

Lucha Libre AAA

Winner: rudos (Mini Charly Manson pumphandle powerbomb Máscarita Sagrada)
Match Time: 12:28
Notes: DTU’s Lanzeloth is a replacement for Mini Abismo Negro, and is Dinastia’s brother. AAA goes with the Lancelot spelling. Sagrada needed medical attention after the match.

Review: [good] very fun mini match, sticking out because the inclusion of Lanzeloth. He looked fantastic in this match. Maybe he was helped out by working against Dinastia for most of the time, but his own offense looked good as well and he felt like he pushed Dinastia into breaking out from his normal routines (or maybe these are just old routines they were going back towards.) Everyone else was fine, and the finish looked brutal, but having the one new guy helped these matches a bunch.

Match 2: Aerostar, Drago, Fénix vs Dark Cuervo, Dark Scoria, Zorro

Lucha Libre AAA+LuchaTV

Winner: tecnicos (Fenix straddle springboard 450 splash Zorro)
Match Time: 12:43
Notes: The rudos have dropped the denim this time, switching to leather vests, but are all wearing the iron masks. No belts.Tecnicos are announced as King of Trios champions. Zorro suffers a cut on one of his palms during the match, bleeding enough that Piero has medics wrap Zorro’s hand. It distracted from the match a little bit. The rudos believe they had the match won after a cane shot and an Escoria tope rope legdrop on Drago, but he kicked out. A post match trios title challenge and attack by the rudos is cut out from match, but briefly shown in clips during Noti AAA and the show ending montage.

Review: [good] A fun showcase match for the tecnicos for the most part, as they all got lots of moments to look good early and made the big comeback late. They did a good enough of making it seem like that comeback wasn’t coming with the big near fall off the cane shot. Zorro’s trio is still coming along as a unit, but they did well in going with the tecnicos for my taste. Fenix looked outstanding and has gotten so much better the last few years. This was a little short of a standout match but I’m excited for the rematch.

Noti AAA includes Fenix hyping his trio with Aerostar & Drago. King of Trios and PWG are name dropped. There’s also part one of an interview with Pentagon Jr., who is still upset about Steve Pain costing him the tag team titles. He doesn’t care about Averno & Chessman, just the tag team titles they hold. Pentagon also wants to follow in Perro Aguayo Jr.’s footsteps and win Rey de Reyes. The segment continues with a Rey de Reyes update.

That first Rey de Reyes match is repeated on the UTDN/YouTube version of the show.

Match 3: Averno & Chessman vs Joe Lider & Pentagón Jr.
Auditorio Bentio Juárez, Cuautitlán, Estado de México, 02/06/2016
Video:
+LuchaTVLucha Libre AAA

Winner: Averno & Chessman (two man powerbomb on Pentagon)
Match Time: 9:57
Notes: Perros enter as a team. Tag champs enter separately, have the belts, and us them to attack Pentagon. Lider is crotched on the post before the whistle blows, setting up the champs as the rudos. They also tie Pentagon to the top rope by his mask, just like Octagon. Joe Lider accidentally dropkicked Pentagon late, which upset Pentagon. Chessman & Averno took out Lider and beat Pentagon a few seconds later. Pentagon threatened Lider after the match. Lider backed down at first, then argued back. Pentagon told Lider off and left without fighting.

Review: [ok] This was a successful match if not one that entertained me a lot. There wasn’t a lot of flow to a match, just a brawl that kept on going. At the same time, both Chessman & Averno and Pentagon & Lider came off like actual teams, and Chessman & Averno were definitively the better one when the match ended. This did more for them the tag title decision match. It was the just the oddness of seeing Lider & Pentagon as tecnicos which didn’t fit them and threw the match off for me – they tried to make it work, but it didn’t quite. Something like Pentagon versus Averno felt like a big deal when they faced off, but the action that followed wasn’t as interesting. Still, they accomplished what they needed to the match, with a tease of the Lider/Pentagon split without doing anything they couldn’t take back later.
