CMLL Arena Mexico: 2016-02-09

Soberano is really good
Soberano is really good

Recapped: 02/09/2016

What happened: Nothing. Skandalo unmasked Blue Panther Jr. to end their match in two falls, but that felt like a random DQ rather than a happening. (They’re not matched up the following week, so it was random.) Marcela worked as a ruda because CMLL was literally out of rudas.

What was good: Nothing. This was a boring Tuesday show.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube channel.

Match 1: Flyer & Leono vs Apocalipsis & Artillero
Arena México, 02/09/2016

  1. rudos
    • rudos Out Of Control Leono (6:12)
    • Artillero senton Flyer (6:29)
  2. tecnicos
    • Flyer springboard moonsault Apocalispis (2:16)
    • Leono reverse armbar Artillero (2:38)
  3. tecnicos
    • Flyer botched Spanish Fly Artillero (2:45)
    • Leono springboard elbow drop (3:00)

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:07

Review: [ok] they seemed to be trying hard than usual in this, especially in the third fall, but I couldn’t get into it at all. Flyer is very iffy – his springboard moonsault in the second fall missed the target, as happens – but he brings more life to the openers than without him. Artillero without Super Comando doesn’t seem to have any point. He was unsteady on the top rope before falling off while Flyer tried to give him a Spanish Fly.

Match 2: La Vaquerita, Lluvia, Skadi vs La Comandante, La Seductora, Reyna Isis
Arena México, 02/09/2016

  1. tecnicas
    • La Vaquerita huracanrana La Comandante (7:59)
  2. rudas
    • La Comandante middle rope splash Lluvia (4:32)
  3. rudas
    • Marcela double stomp Skadi (3:46)
    • Reina Isis standing surfboard Vaquerita (3:48)

Winner: rudas (2-1)
Match Time: 16:19
Notes: Marcela replaced La Seductora, and she insists on wrestling her daughter Skadi from the start.

Review: [below average] mostly a nothing match, but there was some amateur moments mixed in. First fall finish looked awful; not just the slowest ‘rana on Comandante, but Comandante just standing there for it and assisting on her own demise. Reina Isis seemed to mess up the comeback spot badly, and it was luckily hidden by the cameras cuts. Skadi looked the best she’s ever looked wrestling Marcela, to no great surprise – it felt like a public training session, and it’s surely spots they’ve done many times.

Match 3: Súper Halcón Jr. vs Disturbio in a lightning match
Arena México, 02/09/2016

Winner: Super Halcon Jr. (hanging DDT)
Match Time: 6:04
Notes: Disturbio has a new red and black bodysuit.

Review: [ok] Disturbio’s new look didn’t help him much here, but it’s better than the left over shirt. Halcon is slightly above average and had a slightly above average match, which being completely stuck doing his usual match (plus an extra back suplex on the apron.) Disturbio trying to do handshake spots and Halcon just ignoring it repeatedly, not reacting to it any way, spoke to how much he was just doing a routine and not reacting to the crowd or his opponent. Disturbio’s dive off the apron was fun. The finish felt really forced, with Disturbio putting him in position for the DDT for no reason.

Match 4: Blue Panther Jr., Soberano Jr., Stigma vs El Cuatrero, Sansón, Skándalo
Arena México, 02/09/2016

  1. tecnicos
    • Stigma satellite armbar Sanson (5:51)
    • Soberano Nirvanalock Cuatrero (5:54)
  2. tecnicos
    • DQ Skandalo [unmask Blue Panther] (6:53)

Winner: tecnicos
Match Time: 12:47

Review: [ok] they got about the same amount of time a three fall match would’ve gotten, but it never felt like they got so deep into it. The rudos didn’t do much, which denied us of seeing much of Dinamitas but saved us from a dozen Skandalo low blows. I don’t know who’s fault it was, but Stigma’s headscissors into a satellite armbar to win the first fall was a laughable slow process, bad enough even for CMLL to stop airing after the fact. Stigma’s not a lazy guy, his springboard armdrag was near, but he’s just not a very agile guy at this point. It’s amusing even he knows to try and do the tricky stuff with the Cuatrero & Sanson – the rookies! – instead of Skandalo. Soberano outshined his partners, with the tightest tornillo in the promotion. The replay angle of his tope con giro only included part of the move but skying over Stigma looked impressive.

Match 5: Delta, Esfinge, Rey Cometa vs Misterioso Jr., Pierroth, Sagrado
Arena México, 02/09/2016

  1. tecnicos
    • Delta crufixix cradle Pierroth (0:47)
  2. Boricuas
    • Pierroth senton Delta (1:55)
  3. Boricuas
    • Pierorth package powerbomb Esfinge (5:20)
    • Misterioso special Rey Cometa (5:20)

Winner: Boricuas
Match Time: 8:02
Notes: Rey Cometa replaced Guerrero Maya. Pierrothito and Pequeño Violencia were with the Boricuas. Comandante was not. Pierroth was pinned immediately after missing his senton in the first, though Delta seemed shook up after the finish somehow. He continued.

Review: [below average] Everyone single Boricuas match from the last year, only with two quick falls instead of one. Maybe it can soon be three quick falls and then we’re just moving onto more interesting stuff quick. The good thing is this was on tape, so after the first two falls were useless, I cold make the third fall go fast too. Delta pulled Pierroth back on top of him for the second fall pin, which is a bit strange. Third fall featured Pierroth doing three straight body slams and celebrating he gets paid to do that. I would too.

Match 6: Blue Panther, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys
Arena México, 02/09/2016

  1. rudos
    • Vangellys northern lights suplex Blue Panther (5:18)
    • Rey Bucanero cross armbreaker Valiente (5:18)
  2. tecnicos
    • Stuka Jr. torpedo splash Terrible (1:55)
  3. rudos
    • Tormento Guerrero on all three tecnicos (5:23)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:36
Notes: La Comandate was back with this group.

Review: [ok] an unnoteworthy match to close out the show. Terrible licked Valiente’s mask as he does every single time they have a match. Rey Bucanero’s won so much this week that he’s had to come up with completely new moves to finish. They started no feud on this show. I have nothing useful to say about this match.
