Magico’s debut. Mangum replaced Super Porky. Ripper pulled Neutron’s win to to take the win (2/3).

Psycho Clown posted a photo with his father yesterday, and Super Porky seemed to be in good spirits. Hope that means the injury isn’t that bad. They’re definitely setting up a tag title match on these shows, probably for 02/07.

CMLL (TUE) 01/26/2016 Arena México [Notimex, thecubsfan]

6) Atlantis, Máximo Sexy, Stuka Jr. b Boby Z, Rey Bucanero, Terrible LUCHA LIBRE MARTES DE NUEVOS VALORES EN LA ARENA MEXICO 26 DE ENERO DEL 2016 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
13:32. Tecnicos took 2/3. Bucanero complained Maximo fouled him, but it didn’t look as if he did. Bucanero wanted a singles match with Maximo and Maximo accepted. Match isn’t happening.

CMLL announced Tuesday shows would be be streamed every week now. This was a good advertisement to maybe not spend your time watching them live. It was a dry card with not much good action and – since the Bucanero/Maximo thing was dropped – nothing that actually mattered. And even if that match did matter, it didn’t seem like something you should be excited to be see. There’s a bit of a caveat because the FantasticaMania guys were are just starting to being booked, and a lot of those who didn’t go are suffering from over exposure, but it’s not a lot different from when these shows were on Cadena 3.

They’re still calling these shows Martes de Nuevo Valores, but the new talent is scarce – Bobby Z was a token guy in the main event – and it’s not as much a focus on new talent as much as just happening to include them on the lineups. To steal a point from someone else, Puebla is the better show because you at least get the interesting locals added to the card. There’s really no reason to watch all three CMLL shows, and this is the least of all of them. You’d hope CMLL would look at what they’re offering and making some changes, but it’s been this way for a while and they haven’t. It’s probably going to take a new wave of rookies who aren’t used much right away and get stuck on this show to make it interesting.

I think it is now fair to wonder if maybe there won’t be three teaming CMLL shows for long. CMLL officially announced they start on TDN on February 14th. If they’re airing Friday shows, as was originally reported by +Lucha, then that’d be on at least a couple day delay. It doesn’t help TDN if those matches are airing on the internet 48 hours prior and it seems reasonable Claro would pass on airing these Tuesday shows. This is not certain, but maybe things will change around in February.

FWIW, this felt like an internet only production. They weren’t hurrying to get in ad reads during the breaks as they do on the shows which those breaks are cut out for TV, and they weren’t reintroducing the announcers during the show as much as they do when they’re not sure which matches will air. Maybe Titanes is staying with Fridays.

No one really cares about this, because Lucha Underground starts tonight. I’ve got a detailed piece one post below. The first new episode airs at 8pm ET/7pm CT. Check your cable guide; I’ve seen people mention the show is listed as a rerun and that they’re getting a West Coast feed which delays it a few hours.

Lucha Underground announced Fenix will face King Cuerno, which reprises their very good feud in AAA early 2015.  The former trios champions, Son of Havoc, Ivelisse and Angelico, will also be in action. Some sites are listing a Bengala/Drago/Famous B trios match, which does sound like a fun time, but I was told that was a warmup match and would not be airing.

There’s tons of coverage of Lucha Underground today, amazing considering where the show was one season ago and considering they were still only occasionally breaking 100K viewers by traditional ratings metrics at the end of Season 1. Maybe this says something about traditional ratings metrics. Maybe this says the Lucha Underground/El Rey PR people did a pretty fantastic job getting the word out. It’s impressive, whatever it is.

Lucha Underground’s most visible appearance was on the late night SportsCenter, which was taped last week. You can see a clip here; they had three short segments, and were teased a couple times earlier in the show. It felt very similiar to when SportsCenter is used to promote a upcoming movie and generally came off well.

Today, there’s articles about the show on places as Slate, Forbes, and IGN. The AV Club picks Lucha Underground as the show of the night. The IGN piece had an interview with Johnny Mundo, and he and Taya were (are?) in New York doing press for the show today. Rey Misterio says he’s going to Univision today, which is interesting because of LU previously being on Unimas. It might also just be interviews promoting this show.

There’s interesting things in all of the articles, but the Rolling Stone one stuck out because Pentagon Jr. interviews are rare. He goes into detail about what he’s done with the character, “Cero Miedo” and what he thinks of his 2015.

This Ivelisse interview is also fun, because Ivelisse explains she basically convinced herself she didn’t break her ankle, like that’s a thing ordinary people would try to do.

Maybe the most relevant content is a new Lucha Underground comic book. It’s going to be four issues, every two weeks, filling in some of the gaps from Season 1 to Season 2. The first one focuses on Rey Mysterio, and it sounds as if they’re going to switch to catching up with other characters for the other issues. Lucha Underground staff are listed as coming up with the story, so it should fit in with what we see on the screen pretty well (and so also might spoil tiny things.) It’s digital only, though the people working on it said that there’s a slight chance of a print run of copies for conventions if the interest is high enough.

CMLL changed the main event match for Monday’s Puebla show: it’s now Ultimo Guerrero, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero vs Volador Jr., Mascara Dorada, Dragon Lee. That’s quite the tecnico side.

RIOT announced their third show will be on 03/12, with the Un-Mexicans vs Los Compadres Extremos as the first match.

Unseen Films talks with the directors of Lucha Mexico. They mention the key people to help them get access for their film with CMLL was head of PR Sandra Granados and Strong Man himself. The movie is going to air on the west coast sometime soon.

Angelico’s been announced for matches on 03/05 (vs El Ligero & Shane Strickland/Killshot) and 04/02 (vs Mark Haskins) for the UK’s Southside Wrestling Entertainment group

Mascara Sagrada replaces Atlantis on the 02/21 Arena Coliseo Monterrey card. That’s a month away, plenty of time for more changes.

Doradafan his highlights of a Fenix, Magnifico, Komander vs Laredo Kid, Asterisco Jr., and Rey Astral match from August.

NJPW posted a top 10 moves of Mascara Dorada video as a farewell.

Segunda Caida reviews La Sombra vs Mephisto in 2009.

The Viva la Lucha shows on WrestleMania weekend are now off.
