Flyer vs Súper Comando in a lightning match
Arena México, 09/22/2015

Winner: Super Comando (mask pull)
Match Time: 7:18
Notes: This one is a TKD handheld – it’s one where CMLL’s very obviously filming it, but the video never went up anywhere except on the big screen in the arena

Review: [OK] a Super Comando exhibition match of all things. Flyer messes up one move early and it feels like that’s about it for him for the rest of the way; he gets in a bit more offense but not a lot, and Comando gets in a lot. That off the apron dropkick would’ve looked nice in the match with The Panther they never got around to doing. Comando does the mask pull not because he’s in any danger, not because he’s angry with Flyer, but just because he can (and maybe to annoy Flyer.)

Astral vs Pequeño Violencia in a lightning match
Arena México, 10/06/2015

Winner: Astral (modified armscissors)
Match Time: 9:39

Review: [bad] Pequeño Violencia couldn’t be bothered to catch Astral’s dive, kicked and punched him in ways that didn’t look like normal worked kicks and punches, and then sucked taking Astral’s offense. Just terrible, with the last minute being among the worst minutes of CMLL all year. Pequeño Violencia seemed less than professional throughout this match, as he also did in his hair match. He’s pretty much vanished from TV after this point and hasn’t been missed much.

Star Jr. vs Skándalo in a lightning match
Arena México, 11/10/2015

Winner: Skandalo (Skandalo Driver)
Match Time: 7:41
Notes: JCR believes the Principe Azules (Star Jr & Soberano Jr.) is still a thing.

Review: [below average] Star Jr.’s moonsault looked great, so I got something out of this match. Skandalo’s among the most boring singles worker – not only does he have to do his low blow dropkicks, but the tecnicos have to do one of their own as revenge. He can’t do anything else, and he’s been having the same match for a decade. The only thing he’s bothered to change was to add a second piledivers. Of course, he wins.

Delta vs Sagrado in a lightning match

Winner: Sagrado (Buca Storm)
Match Time: 7:47
Review: [good] an actual good match! Sagrado and Delta wrestled this like this was the blowoff match to a short term rivalry, going from an intense level early on and throwing out all their big moves to win. This was far more than you’d expect from them on a regular lightning match, with Delta breaking from usual and working in his big moves in the flow of the match (instead of just checking them off.) They had a few near falls near the end that felt like they could’ve been the end, and the finish looked super. This was fun and among the best singles matches for either guy.

Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Boby Z in a lightning match
Arena México, 12/08/2015

Winner: Guerrero Maya (DQ for Zavala mask pull)
Match Time: 5:50

Review: [ok] If, for some reason, you haven’t gotten enough Bobby/Maya matches, this is definitely another one. It’s another one better than the En Busca de un Idolo final, which will probably go down as the worst match they ever have against each other. It’s still not a good one; this is a short match to set up the mask pull to set up nothing in particular. Even figuring out what to GIF was not easy, and not because they were doing subtle things which don’t GIF well.

Blue Panther Jr. vs Okumura in a lightning match
Arena México, 12/15/2015

Winner: Blue Panther Jr. (fujiwara armbar)
Match Time: 7:02

Review: [below average] Do you want slowly worked hammerlock spots? No, you don’t. Fans did not either and started booing about 90 seconds in. This match is dominated by Okumura, who does almost nothing. Blue Panther Jr. is not as sympathetic as his brother, and his comeback is just randomly decided to start fighting back. He also completely missed on a corner dropkicked and the crowd nearly turns on the match. There’s whistling throughout, but it seems generous for the crowd not have rejected it even stronger. It took forever to end without ever getting much better, with Panther pulling off the slowest flash fujiwara armbar possible.

no, Blue Panther Jr.

Starman vs Arkángel de la Muerte in a lightning match
Arena México, 12/29/2015

Video:

Winner: Starman (suaistica)
Match Time: 8:55

Review: [ok] a long slow match between two old slow men. They didn’t do any kind of special match, this was the generic lightning match with the token mat wrestling (better than usual) one dive and a few near falls. The hilarious Arkangel botch is good for Arkangel haters. The rest can be missed.
