Recapped: 01/19/2016

What happened: Esfinge won the Copa Junior tournament. Rey Bucanero cheated to beat Maximo and wants a title match. Terror Chino failed at counting a pinfall.

What was good: The Esfinge/Puma match was pretty good, nearly as good as the Vangellys/Maximo match from Monday. Other matches had moments but nothing stood out.

Review: [ok] Decent minis opener, though nothing special. Stukita looked a bit off in the first fall but the third fall was smoother and his submission looked good. Fantasy was mostly invisible, as he tends to be. The rudos did fine and more than Fantasy. This could’ve been a normal opener and far worse.

Match 2: Oro Jr., Soberano Jr., Star Jr. vs Cancerbero, Nitro, Raziel

Review: [ok] this had more tecnico offense than i’d expect for a team with this trio, but it turned out that was the case because they went nearly twenty minutes and had to fill the time somehow. It was better than usual, but maybe not really worth all that time. Soberano looked good when he had a chance. Nitro continues to win all his matches and always by piledriver, which would mean something in another promotion and is probably some strange political deal in this one.

Review: [ok] a lot of effort in this match, if not always the most smooth performance (and tending to be a little boring with any specific issue; third straight one of that is a lot.) Isis actually beat someone with a tricky submission, which might be a first. Silueta keeps having two good spots and then one thing that goes wrong. She’s two thirds of the way there! Amapola isn’t doing much in this, but her Devil’s Wings still looks cool.

Notes: Seconds are Soberano Jr. and Nitro.

Review: [great] delivered the big match for the occasion, although not the hoped for outcome. Puma came into the match trying to come off as a star even despite the finish, from the gold outfit to the willingness to take the crazy missed dive. He seemed to bang up his shoulder during the match but it didn’t slow him down. Esfinge really needed the moment of senton to the floor (tope Magno!) to stand out in this match; he was solid the rest of the way and is missing some bit of personality to take him past this point. It’s still a nice match for him, with the biggest problem being how little time they gave this compared to the three pointless trios matches which came before. They did make the most of the time they had.

Review: [ok] fine enough semimain match on a Tuesday that show that I mostly won’t remember two days from now. The only two things which stuck out were Rey Cometa landing badly and limping around for the last couple minutes, and Terror Chino blowing the finish in usual horrible fashion. Pegasso’s assisted dive was nice too.

Notes: Bucanero challenges for a title match after the win. Maximo says he’ll accept if the fans want it, but he also wants a hair vs hair match

Review: [below average] nothing totally wrong with the match, but it was a very quick match just to set up a title match next week or the week after. It was interesting to get something else besides the usual Super Porky match – the rudos stopped most of his usual spots – but it wasn’t much of something.
