CMLL Guerreros del Ring on 52MX: 2015-12-26

this took forever and a day

Recapped: 01/03/106

What happened: Tuesday matches are now airing on 52MX. They had been airing irregularly on Claro Sports/Titanes en el Ring since the shut down of CadenaTres. It appears this is a permanent change from airing the Puebla matches as it stays this way the following week, but nothing is for sure with CMLL’s TV. The top 3 matches (skipping the lightning matches) will likely air every week.

Titan defeated Dragon Rojo in the main event trios after those two feuded all match long. The opener saw the rudos win with by cheating and everyone pull everyone else’s mask, as they set up the cage match.

What was good: Just the main event. Tuesday shows haven’t changed much since I was recapping them a couple months ago, with the matches scaled down to the audience size.

Where can I watch it: It’s on my YouTube channel.

Match 1: Fuego, Pegasso, Tritón vs Puma, Sangre Azteca, Tiger
Arena México, 12/08/2015

  1. rudos
    • DQ Fuego [fake ref attack] (7:31)
  2. rudos
    • Sangre Azteca mask pull Triton (3:55)

Winner: rudos (2-0)
Match Time: 11:26
Notes: The first fall ended with Fuego giving quebradoras con giro to all the off the rudos and almost giving one to Tirantes. Tirantes covered up, Tiger slapped Tirantes in the back and dropped to the mat, Tirantes turned around to see only Fuego standing, and decided this was enough to call a DQ. Post match saw everyone pull off each other’s masks and end up with someone else’s mask.

Review: [ok] First fall had mat work, a rudo beatdown, a comeback spot with dives, another tiny beatdown, and another comeback spot in eight minutes. It was a bit overloaded and also had one of the most improbable DQs of all time. The only good part of it was how big the rudos celebrated because they deserved some sort of celebration for getting away with that. Anyway, it was also clear this wasn’t going to go three falls after all of that and that was fine enough – this was build up to a match we’ve already seen, a not very compelling match with not very compelling build. A very ordinary match outside of the rare CMLL complete dive train late in the third fall. The mask pulling is funny, but hurt by knowing none of this is going to be mentioned again and didn’t even matter all that much in the cage match.

Match 2: Delta, Rey Cometa, Valiente vs Niebla Roja, Rey Bucanero, Vangellys

  1. tecnicos
    • Delta Formation on Niebla Roja (5:19)
    • Rey Cometa huracanrana Vangellys (5:39)
  2. rudos
    • Vangellys northern lights suplex Valiente (4:42)
  3. rudos
    • Niebla Roja second rope Furia Roja Rey Cometa and Valiente (3:31)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:52

Review: [ok] fine by forgettable match. Weird to see Vangellys or Delta for the first time in a while – they’re almost never on the Friday and Monday shows. They have not changed in the least. They were both ten seconds behind and completely lost on what the finish was supposed to be, and Bucanero had to save the day so Niebla Roja wouldn’t look like an idiot. Rey Cometa wasn’t as great as he has been on the Elite shows but still the best guy here and Niebla Roja worked well with him. Valiente is not wearing pants in this match, in case this affects your interest in watching one way or the other.

bad times for Rey Bucanero

Match 3: Atlantis, Titán, Volador Jr. vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Hechicero, Pólvora

  1. rudos
    • Dragon Rojo top rope double stomp Titan (3:07)
    • Pólvora Driver on Volador Jr. (3:21)
  2. tecnicos
    • Atlantis casadora cradle Pólvora (2:22)
    • Volador huracanrana Hechicero (2:26)
  3. tecnicos
    • Titan Capture on Dragon Rojo (3:49)

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:36
Notes: Atlantis is wearing a split white/blue mask, which may have been a tribute to Lizmark. Dragon Rojo goes after Titan during the entire match. Announcers brought up Titan had previously challenged Dragon Rojo for his title after winning the first En Busca de un Idolo.

Review: [good] this got the shortest time on the show but was the most interesting match. Dragon Rojo and Titan started up their title match well with some good feuding in this match, including some strong back and forth in the third fall. This felt like a really good sign for their title match. Meanwhile, it turns out Hechicero is a really good opponent for Volador, to the surprise of no one. They ought to be matched up more as well. Maybe having less time speed them on and focused the match, but it was probably just edited that way. Whatever the case, this one was just more fun.
