CMLL iPPV missing matches: 2015-12-25

Caveman knocked back to prehistory

Recapped: 01/04/2015

What happened: The iPPV failed! And then they put up the matches for free on YouTube and I decided I needed to watch them even though it was fairly obvious none of them were going to be any good. (This justification means I’ve got some lightning matches to watch soon.)

In the actual matches, Kamaitachi & Maximo and Super Parka & Negro Casas signed their contracts for hair matches. No one could quite decide if the matches were being announced for the first time there only being finalized (though they had been announced a few days ahead of time.)

This is neither here or there, but this show is the best example not to judge attendance by what it looks like during the first match. It looked dire during the opener and increased greatly by the middle of the card.

You can find my reviews of the two matches which did air as scheduled here.

What was good: Not much. Cavernario was really good and Super Porky had a Super Porky match.

Where can I watch it: They’re on CMLL’s website and YouTube channel, but only linked to a hidden page sent to people on their mailing list. They’re also linked below. One of these matches may turn up on Lucha Azteca

    • Vaquerita full nelson bodyscissors La Seductora (3:43)

Winner: tecnicas (2-1)
Match Time: 12:44
Notes: Vaquerito throws candy out to the crowd. Estrellita is wearing an Elsa from Frozen outfit.

Review: [below average] worse than usual match. Dalys is the best person in this match, which a problem most days. Some laughable bad spots, including a comeback spot requiring Dalys to just forget what she was doing (which actually kind of fit in with other people legitimately forgetting what they were doing.) There has to be a better role for Tiffany in CMLL than being in wrestling matches, because she’s so not good at them.

La Seducotra picked a weird day to wear her camo, or is a secret member of the Zeuxis/Dalys team. It’s probably a lot easier to be a luchador if you’re never that concerned about your moves looking good – I mean, that’s got to be why Estrellita keeps doing the bridging cradle she can pull off only 30% of the time. (The position she ends up in that move is more important and she’s probably right for believing so.) My biggest concern is Estrellita later explaining fans suggested the Elsa outfit to her. Have this fans actually seen Frozen? Elsa is an emotionally withdrawn literal ice princess, how is that like Estrellita at all? About as much as this was like a good match.

started out slow but got better
let me see where I’m at before I fall down
timing not so great

Match 2: Blue Panther, Stuka Jr., Super Porky vs Kráneo, Pólvora, Vangellys

Arena México, 12/25/2015

  1. rudos
    • Kraneo running hip smash Super Porky (4:25)
  2. tecnicos
    • Super Porky splash Kraneo (2:04)
  3. tecnicos
    • Stuka Jr. torpedo splash Vangelys (6:37)
    • Blue Panther nudo lagunero Polvora (6:41)

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:10
Notes: The wave breaks out during the second fall of this match.

Review: [ok] your standard Super Porky spectacular, weirdly included on this big show. Crowd liked it, but it’s the match you’ve seen many I’ve noted how Kraneo is the greatest nearly as many times, but it seems like not nearly enough after matches like this. He seemed to be working for about five men (and everyone failed at kicking out of sunset flips when he left, so he was needed to work for five men.) Pólvora let Blue Panther attempt his own landing on his dive, which doesn’t seem like a great idea. Super Porky declined to pin. Kraneo and took him outside for a splash, which also seems like a bad idea, and one of a many moments which existed just to stretch this out a few more minutes for no reason other than taking up time. Better idea giving this match time than the last one, but wait a couple week and you’ll get to see this match again.

Kraneo and Mije
Super Porky bounces!
flattened Kraneo
Kraneo fouled on a backdrop?
Kraneo is a patient man

Match 3: Máximo Sexy, Super Parka, Valiente vs Cavernario, Kamaitachi, Negro Casas

Arena México, 12/25/2015
Video:
VideosOficialesCMLLMisticieroTV

  1. rudos
    • Kamaitachi double knee drop Maximo (2:35)
    • Barbaro Cavernario springboard splash Valiente (2:53)
  2. tecnicos
    • Valiente splash Barbaro Cavernario (2:08)
    • Maximo sit down powerbomb Kamaitachi (2:18)
    • Super Parka inside cradle Negro Casas (5:46)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:57
Notes: Super Parka enters first, and the rudos rush out and beat him up. The edecanes do not appear to have been told about this and scatter on a delay. Super Parka and Negro Casas brawl often during still the match, including into the crowd, and independently of the rest of the match. Parka seemed to pin Casas cleanly in the third fall, but Casas reacted as if he had been fouled after the fact to try and draw the DQ. As the referee reacted to that, Kamaitachi fouled Maximo. Casas was the captain, so it didn’t matter. Casas continued to sell the foul after the face and I’m totally unclear if Parka was supposed to have fouled him and it wasn’t done right (ref was distracted) or if this was a long con for the referee.

Super Parka challenged Negro Casas to a hair match. Maximo did the same with Kamatiachi. (Rey Bucanero pretended to translate Kamaitachi but then though they were doing a tag match.) They all signed contracts for their matches next week.

Review: [ok] two different matches going on at the same time. Casas & Parka had a slow brawl, working around Parka’s limitations (movement, selling, basically everything) but still not being all that entertaining on their own. Cavernario & Kamaitachi versus Maximo & Valiente was pretty good, with Cavernario looking superb on offense and taking Valiente’s big moves in what was really kind of a meaningless position. Maximo/Kamaitachi directly was fine, but nothing suggested what would happen next week.

BONE TO THE FACE
Valiente apparently knocked off Cavernario’s knee cap
you think you’re safe in the second row, but nope
