CMLL Puebla: 2016-01-04

Recapped: 01/04/2016

What happened: The Sky Team kept the trios titles. Stigma and Skandalo are still feuding. Vangellys and Maximo may be feuding.

What was good: The main event was good, but really short. The fourth match was the only other thing which didn’t feel like filler.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube channel

Match 1: Arkalis, París, Rey Samuray vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Nitro, Policeman
Arena Puebla, 01/04/2016

  1. rudos
    • Paris huracarana Policeman (6:56)
    • Rey Samurai cradle Arkangel (7:13)
  2. tecnicos
    • Arkangel low blow elbow drop Rey Samurai (4:42)
  3. rudos
    • Nitro piledriver Rey Samurai (6:42)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 18:37

Review: [below average] as bad a mix as it looked, when the rudos more focused on getting their own unappealing bits in while not working well with the young tecnicos. No one had a really good night, and this required someone to do so to really carry it. The bit where the tecnicos went for a triple dive, the rudos did nothing to stop it, and the tecnicos just slid out or posed instead was quite lame.

Paris corner armdrag

Match 2: Estrellita, Lluvia, Princesa Sugehit vs Dalys, Reyna Isis, Tiffany
Arena Puebla, 01/04/2016

  1. tecnicas
    • Estrellita back bridge cradle Dalys (6:17)
  2. rudas
    • Dalys cristo Estrellita (2:57)
  3. tecnicas
    • Lluvia casador cradle Tiffany (2:04)
    • Princesa Sugehit pendulum backbreaker Isis (2:28)

Winner: tecnicas (2-1)
Match Time: 11:42

Review: [below average] not as bad as the Christmas Day trios (with basically the same lineup) but not really good at at all. Reina Isis had a horrible legdrop in here. I wanted to see more of Lluvia to see if she’s getting any better, and she was only a bit player in this. Lluvia laying on the mat and watching people run around instead of selling wasn’t so good. Mostly forgettable match.

every Esterllita spot seems like fan service
no

Match 3: Stigma vs Skándalo
Arena Puebla, 01/04/2016

Winner: Stigma (Skandalo DQ for mask pull)
Match Time: 9:07
Notes: Though not mention on the card, this was announced as a lightning match. Skandalo pulled the mask for the DQ.

Review: [ok] first match better than expectations? Stigma wasn’t asked to do anything particularly advanced, but he still managed to pull of all his big spots (mostly dives) and looked good doing it. Skandalo’s a slug and there’s no good reason to keep this going, but there’s no good reason to start doing it in the first place and here were are.

not sure that’s how it works
Stigma tope
Stigma sault
Skandalo pros: big head to hit

Match 4: Ángel de Oro, Stuka Jr., Black Tiger vs Euforia, Felino, Hechicero

Arena Puebla, 01/04/2016

  1. rudos
    • Euforia cruz nipona Angel de Oro (6:13)
  2. tecnicos
    • Angel de Oro mecedora Euforia (3:15)
  3. rudos
    • Felino crucifix powerbomb Black Tiger (3:18)
    • Hechicero rolling half crab Stuka Jr. (4:03)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:31
Notes: Black Tiger replaced Super Porky.

Review: [ok] easily best match on the card so far and was kind of there already after the Hechicero/Black Tiger mat wrestling to start. Hechicero looked like the best guy on the show, it was nice to see him win, and everyone else worked well doing their usual bits. Black Tiger fit in her fine, to the surprise of no one.

reverse monkey flip
Tiger tope
Felino crucifix powerbomb
Stuka wants off the ride

Match 5: La Máscara, Marco Corleone, Máximo Sexy vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys
Arena Puebla, 01/04/2016

  1. rudos
    • Olimpico cristo negro Maximo (6:26)
    • COR Marco Corleone and La Mascara (6:45)
  2. tecnicos
    • Maximo half crab Terrible (2:46)
  3. rudos
    • Maximo casita Rey Bucanero (4:19)
    • Vangelis Northern lights suplex Maximo (5:01)

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:32
Notes: Rey Bucanero was wearing a Bullet Club shirt. Mascara and Marco did not get along with Maximo and would not tag in to help him. Rudos celebrated on the microphone after the match, but the mic appeared to die before they got to whatever pointed they wanted to make.

Review: [below average] Yet another match where the Ingobernables weren’t helping out their partners, but the matches haven’t fallen so completely apart like this in a while. This is really an extended Maximo handicap match and that’s a bit much. The third fall randomly turned into a normal match, but I had stopped caring by that point. The boos and cheers after the second fall depending on who’s arm was raised was by far the most entertaining part of the match.

this got ugly quick

Match 6: Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. © vs Kráneo, Mephisto, Ripper for the CMLL World Trios Championship
Arena Puebla, 01/04/2016

  1. rudos
    • Kraneo corner hipsmash Mistico (3:51)
  2. Sky Team
    • Vailente half crab Ripper (2:03)
    • Volador guillotine legdrop Kraneo (1:56)
  3. Sky Team
    • Ripper blocked cradle Valiente (2:25)
    • Volador backcracker Mephisto (3:29)

Winner: Sky Team
Match Time: 8:19
Notes: busy finish saw Ripper pin Valiente, and Mephisto give Volador the super Devil’s Wings, only for Mistico to break up the pin. Mistico got Mephisto in a huracanrana, Kraneo pulled out the ref, and Ripper pulled off Mistico’s mask. Mephisto got up, was slow to cover, and Volador gave him the backcracker for the winning pin.

Review: [good] absurdly short – this was the shortest match of the night, including the lightning match – but they packed in all the usual Sky Team big spots. It just didn’t have time to develop the way it should be to be anything super memorable, but it was good for what it was. They really got to do something about all these main events being cut short. (This show didn’t really need six matches too.) Poor Kraneo got obliterated by two different Valiente topes in about a minute span, but that did look pretty cool.
