Rey Misterio has joined Lucha Underground

Rey Misterio debuted on tonight’s Lucha Underground taping. The ex WWE and current AAA star appeared as part of tonight’s episodes. As part of the policy not to list results ahead of airing this season, I’m not going to specify what his role is. I suspect you’ll be able to find out elsewhere easily if you’d like.

Misterio had been courted for this project since the moment it existed, and it’s wildly belived WWE kept Misterio under contract an extra year just to keep him off season one. Misterio was spotted backstagr during season one, and expected to be part of season two, with a closing shot from the ending belived to be a hint. My sources had long indicated there was at least an unofficial agreement for Rey to cone aboard; it’s public now.

This deal means a near term return to WWE is unlikely. Lucha Underground contacts seem to be more stake than AAA ones (though an unhappy Alberto was let our of one.) AAA has staked itself to Rey as their top star and this is a reassurance he’ll still be around for a while.

CMLL show filled with bad matches and hair match challenges, Caristico returns next week

one of the better moments from last night’s show

CMLL (FRI) 12/11/2015 Arena México [CMLL, R de Rudo, thecubsfan]
1) Akuma & Canelo Casas b Bengala & Soberano Jr.
12:48. rudos took 1/3
2) Demus 3:16, Mercurio, Pierrothito b Astral, Eléctrico, Shockercito
14:35. Rudos took 1/3.
3) Blue Panther, Blue Panther Jr., Super Porky b Misterioso Jr., Pierroth, Sagrado
10:41. Tecnicos took 2/3.
4) Super Parka DQ Negro Casas [lightning]
Bad match. Parka was winded early. Super Parka won by DQ in 7:29 when Negro Casas dropkicked Super Parka into referee Edgar, then fouled Parka. Parka demanded a hair match tonight after the main event. Casas dropkicked him, attacked the referee again, and agreed to a hair match for next week.
5) Máximo Sexy, Mistico, Rush DQ Ephesto, Euforia, Kamaitachi
11:34. Tecnicos took 2/3, the last by DQ when Kamaitachi fouled Maximo when Maximo went for the kiss. Kamaitachi challenged Maximo to a hair match next week and Maximo accepted.
6) Shocker, Terrible, Último Guerrero b Kráneo, Ripper, Thunder
10:09. Mr. Niebla replaced Thunder. The announcers did not mention Thunder. UG’s team took 2/3 in a heatless match.

This was a bad show. It’s good we know there are bigger matches coming, because it’s been a dead stretch outside of the Kamaitachi/Dragon Lee feud.

Maximo & Kamaitachi specifically challenged for a hair match next week. Super Parka and Negro Casas made hair matches challenges as well. Neither match seems to be happening next week. CMLL’s recap mentions neither challenge. I’m totally confused.

CMLL offered no explanation about Thunder’s absence, but their note on the show (still) says Thunder/Ultimo Guerrero is on. This has happened a lot with Thunder.

There’s a Mexico City tourism kiosk in Arena Mexico now. Presumably it’s there in case you end up at a dead show like last night and want to find something better to check out.

Lucha Underground tapes two episodes tonight and three more tomorrow. There are people heading to both the Temple and the PWG show later tonight, and they’re probably going to have a good day. If the expected debut happens, figure on it happening sometime around 7pm CT.

The debut show for Lucha & Tacos is today in Deportivo del SME with an 8 man tournament. First round matches are Toxin (Kriminal Boys) vs Fly Warrior (Mala Hiebra), Dragon Celta vs Rocky Lobo, Magnifico II vs Alas de Acero (Kamikazes) and Baku (debut) vs Latigo (Mala Hiebra).

Today’s CMLL Sabados Retro show has Blue Panther, La Mascara and Super Porky versus Euforia, Bobby Z and Gran Guerrero in the main event. Guerrero Maya & The Panther challenge Misterioso & Sagrado in a non-title match and almost have to get a title shot if they win.

Sunday has a GIW show – the indy that runs very occasionally at Arena Azteca Budokan – with Oriental & Super Nova vs Arez & Belial and Herodes vs Black Terry fronting a pretty good card. The Elite show has Rush & Caristico teaming up against Sharlie & Mephisto.

AAA’s already put this week’s TV show. Dinastia is happy with his title defense on that show.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Rey Misterio is going to Chile on March 13.

There was a reunion of old luchadors.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 12/18/2015 Arena México
1) Oro Jr. & Star Jr. vs Espiritu Negro & Metálico
2) Blue Panther Jr., Esfinge, Fuego, Pegasso, The Panther, Tritón vs Cancerbero, Puma, Raziel, Sangre Azteca, Súper Comando, Tiger [cibernetico]
3) Ángel de Oro, La Máscara, Máximo Sexy vs Kamaitachi, Pólvora, Virus
4) Shocker, Terrible, Último Guerrero vs Kráneo, Ripper, Thunder
5) Atlantis, Carístico, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Negro Casas

Seeing Caristico in the video promo was weird. Bringing him back one week before the Christmas iPPV is weirder. Not sure if this means all the top Elite guys will be here eventually; they really ought to do a Hell Brothers run-in or something to spark interest in those shows.

No sign of Super Parka, or either of those hair matches. Maybe they’re being added to the holiday shows to prop them up, but why not just say that last night? I dunno.

Thunder back on this show.

A cibernetico with the cage match participants was a pretty easy guess and will also probably be a pretty good match.

Espiritu Negro hasn’t been on a CMLL show since August. He is not Canelo Casas, so it’s good to see him.

CMLL on ClaroSports.com: 2015-12-11

had same reaction to this show

Recapped: 12/11/2015

What happened: Kamaitachi fouled Maximo and challenged him to a hair match, and Maximo accepted for next week. That seems like it’s actually happening. Less certain is a Negro Casas/Super Parka hair match; challenges were made after their own DQ finish, but Parka wanted it tonight while Casas accepted for next week.

The promo for next week revealed Caristico would make his full CMLL return on next Friday night’s show.

Thunder was missing from the main event, three Fridays out form his mask match. No explanation was given.

What was good:  Nothing. Not a think. This was the deadest show full of bad matches in some time. I’m sorry I gave out the link.

Where can I watch it: Don’t! Don’t do this. It’ll be up on my channel but really don’t. Read More

2015 watch later catch up, part 8 of ∞

Guadalajara results, Friday night preview

CMLL (TUE) 12/08/2015 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [CMLL]
1) Neutrón & Vaquero Jr. b Mercenario & Ráfaga
2) Maléfico, Metálico, Súper Comando b Magnum, Oro Jr., Súper Halcón Jr.
3) Blue Panther Jr., Esfinge, The Panther DQ Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
Esfinge replaced Pegasso on Thursday. Esfinge was trying to beat Virus with his Nudo Egipcio, btu Raziel ripped off his mask first for the DQ.
4) Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto © b Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther, Stuka Jr. [MEX TRIOS]
2nd defense. Hijos del Infienro took 2/3, the last with Mephisto beating Blue Panther. Money thrown in.
5) Mr. Niebla, Shocker, Último Guerrero b La Máscara, Marco Corleone, Rush
Ultimo Guerrero snuck in a foul on Marco for the win.

CMLL’s Friday night show is main evented is Shocker, Terrible, Ultimo Guerrero versus Thunder, Kraneo, and Ripper, three Fridays out from the Thunder/Ultimo Guerrero mask versus hair match. They’re playing up Ultimo Guerrero’s injury, saying he hasn’t fully recovered and won’t be full strength against Thunder.

The semimain follows up on last week’s title match with Mistico, Rush, and Maximo versus Kamaitachi, Euforia and Ephesto, with the storyline of Kamaitachi blaming Maximo for costing him the Super Lightweight championship by pointing out Dragon Lee’s feet on the ropes. Kamaitachi went as far as challenging Maximo hair versus hair. That’d be a fun match, but one that doesn’t seem likely to happen. There’s no spot for the match to take place any time soon with Christmas and New Year’s Day already full. I’d similarly love to see Super Comando/The Panther both escape the cage and end up doing a direct match on a Three Kings Day show, but it’s unlikely CMLL is going to run three apuesta matches in about two weeks. Tonight’s match should be fun anyway.

The rest of the card has Negro Casas and Super Parka in a lightning match (which should still spill in to something more on one of the two big shows; more likely 01/01), a minis match and a Super Porky appearance. The only person in the Christmas Day cage match on this show is Blue Panther Junior. I’d expect all 12 guys to be on next week’s card – a cibernetico would make sense.

The show will air at 8:30 pm CT on ClaroSports.com. It remains not region blocked, and the countdown timer is already up.

CMLL’s also got an article hyping Caristico & Rush teaming for the first time on Sunday. CMLL’s press department, at least, is treating those shows as if they’re CMLL run with slightly different names. There’s also an interview with Mascara Dorada. He’s been watching CMLL on the internet to keep up on things and says he’s not targeting a specific person on his return, but unnamed people who think are living on a cloud and thinking they own the world.

Rey Horuz & Caristico beat Sharlie Manson & Cibernetico in Arena Queretaro. Attendance looks pretty good here, around 70% full.

Hanaoka lost his hair to Caballero Ninja Jr. in Xalapa.
