Caristico returns to CMLL Friday nights, Casas/Parka & Kamaitachi/Maximo, Dorada actually gets a match

tonight’s card

Tonight’s is the first time the original Mistico will wrestle on a Friday night show since January 14, 2011. The main event that night was Mistico, Maximo, Super Porky versus Felino, Negro Casas and Rey Bucanero. CMLL could run the same exact match nearly five years later, but instead Mistico will team with Volador and Super Parka versus Mephisto, Ephesto and the same Negro Casas. The prodigal son returning is tonight’s draw, but the emphasis going forward appears to be on the Negro Casas/Super Parka feud. It’s possible those two may drafted to replace the missing Thunder/Ultimo Guerrero match in a couple Fridays.

The other possible replacement match is in the semimain, as Maximo teams with Atlantis and Marco Corleone versus Shocker, Ultimo Guerrero and Kamaitachi to continue the Maximo/Kamaitachi feud. Kamaitachi losing his hair fits the pattern of the NJPW trainee getting shaved bald before returning to Japan, but he’s also sticking around deeper into December than usual. Namajague’s last match was on December 8th, Yoshi-Hashi was done on the 6th, and Naito & Yujiro finished up on the 4th. Perhaps Thunder’s disappears the timing of his hair match, but they started setting up the Maximo/Namajague match while Thunder was still around.

Whatever the plan is for 01/01 – Maximo/Kamaitachi, Parka/Casas, both, neither, even back to Thunder/UG – CMLL will probably want to make clear tonight. It’s going to be tougher to build it up next week when the stream is an iPPV, and it’s probably needs a couple weeks of notice. The problem is both feuds already said the matches were happening and then they just didn’t, so they might need to do something more serious to convince people it’s really happening this time. Maybe a in-ring contract signing?

The one match we know is happening in the next couple weeks is the cage match next week. The 12 luchadors in that match will all be in a cibernetico tonight, which figures to be a pretty good match. CMLL’s run this pre-cage ciberneticos with the minis division, and often had the finish of the cibernetico set up the result next week in a cage the next week. Tonight’s outcome could be telling.

Tonight’s show has two more matches which look like they should at least be OK. It ought to be a better show than the last couple of weeks. It’ll start at 8:30pm Central Time, and it’ll stream on ClaroSports. The link is usually http://www.clarosports.com/en-vivo02/, though it doens’t appear to be up yet.

CMLL says Pete Best, who was the drummer for the Beatles before Ringo Starr, will be at the show. He’s in Mexico touring with his band.

There’s another big CMLL match which isn’t in Arena Mexico. Mascara Dorada will defend the CMLL World Welterweight Championship against BUSHI on NJPW’s show in Korakuen Hall. It’s Dorada’s first defense in NJPW, first defense anywhere since winning it over Negro Casas in a quick tournament, and first defense in 351 days. It’s still only the fourth longest known break between defenses (Mephisto went 508 days between them once.) Bushi/Dorada should be a good match and one where the outcome is in doubt; NJPW hasn’t quite done a lot with Dorada and this is Bushi’s first big match after going rudo. I’m hoping Dorada wins and challenges the winner of the Omega/Kushida title match at FantasticaMania, but it’s nearly as likely Dorada loses thru some interference and gets a title rematch at FantasticaMania. Either way, we’ll probably get the first indication of what to expect for that January tour.

The show will air live on NJPWWorld.com (subscription required) at 3:30 AM Central Time. (This site will convert it to your timezone.) It’s the fifth match on the show. I stupidly plan on watching it live, so expect notes on Twitter or here.

Alfredo at LuchaWorld and KrisZ have detailed obituaries for Lizmark. Furia de Titanes talked to Canek, Fantasma and Hijo del Lizmark at the wake. Hijo del Lizmark said his father was in good health and everyone was surprised by his passing.

On an interview with Spain’s PlanetaDeporte, Angelico said he and Jack Evans were approached by WWE about joining, and mutually decided they’d rather stick with Lucha Underground as long as the series lasts. (The discussion is about 56:20 into the video and Brazil’s WrestliNation had this quote first.) Angelico said they were actually approached a year prior to meeting WWE officials again at PWG more recently, where the WWE again inquired and wanted to know about their contract status. Angelico mentioned he was really happy with the atmosphere of Lucha Underground, where about everyone is the same age and everyone hangs out together. Saying that you’ll stay some place forever is the smart thing to say when you’re already there, but Angelico seemed genuine about his desire to want to stick with Lucha Underground. The full interview runs about an hour and includes Angelico talking about other topics. When asked about Rey Misterio and Myzteziz, Angelico was very down on Myzteziz, saying their trios match in Cancun wasn’t any good due to Myzteziz changing everything and rejecting everything. You don’t hear many good stories about Myzteziz’s time in AAA, which probably explains a lot about why AAA reacted harhser to Myzteziz walking out than Angelico – it was an accumulation of things.

DTU and WXW announced the winner of the four way between Black Fire, Draztick Boy, Lokillo and Jinzo on Saturday’s DTU anniversary show will not only go to WXW, but also challenge for the DTU Alto Impacto championship still held by Kim Rey. In that interview above, Angelico also said he was heading to WXW in early March.

Segunda Caida reviews Felino, Místico, Negro Casas vs La Máscara, La Sombra, Volador Jr.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 12/22/2015 Arena México
1) Astral, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito vs Demus 3:16, Mercurio, Pierrothito
2) Magnus, Metatrón, Soberano Jr. vs Disturbio, Okumura, Virus
3) Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr., The Panther vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
4) Dragón Rojo Jr. © vs Titán [CMLL MIDDLE]
13th defense
5) La Máscara, Super Porky, Valiente vs Felino, Rey Bucanero, Vangellys

Dragon Rojo reached four years with that championship last month. Might this be it for him? Titan is going to Japan and Dragon Rojo is not. Should be a pretty good match either way.

Maya & Panther are paired up a few days after their own title challenge. Second match is sneaky good, would be better if anyone replaced Metatron. Maybe he and Shockercito can switch places.

CMLL (TUE) 12/22/2015 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Capitan Cobra, Magia Blanca, Robin vs Cholo, Mercenario, Mr. Apolo
2) Estrellita, Lluvia, Silueta vs Dalys, Reyna Isis, Zeuxis
3) Delta, Esfinge, Rey Cometa vs Boby Z, Kamaitachi, Skándalo
4) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Volador Jr. vs Gran Guerrero, Kráneo, Ripper
5) Marco Corleone vs Último Guerrero

We haven’t seen results from this past Tuesday in Guadalajara but Ultimo Guerrero fouled Marco the week prior to that. A little strange a hobbled Ultimo Guerrero would’ve been booked in a singles match ten days before a bigger/tougher one with Thunder, but perhaps the idea when this was booked was to give Ultimo Guerrero a chance to see where he’s at health wise in a full singles match.

Magia Blanca starts makes his way to Guadalajara for the first time in the opener.

CMLL SANCHEZ (FRI) 12/25/2015 Arena Neza
1) Hijo De La Parkita & Mini Oriental vs Babra Negra & Pequeno Star
2) Bugambilia, Huracan Ramirez Jr., Rey Neza vs Fresero Jr., Maldito Jr., Motocross
3) Argos, Dinamic Black, Neza Kid vs Canis Lupus, Dr. Karonte Jr., Punker Bizarro
4) Mr. Niebla & Zumbido vs Gran Guerrero & Último Guerrero
5) Carístico & La Máscara vs Cibernético & Sharlie Rockstar

One more to the Christmas Day shows, though this one starts at 6:30 (late enough for people to work Arena Mexico before hand if desired.)
